Miranda Lambert's 'Randy': CEO Of Former Record Label?

Graeme O'Neil speculates that Miranda Lambert's upcoming track "Dammit Randy" is a kissoff to the CEO of Sony Music Nashville, Randy Goodman, the record label that Miranda fired last year.

Huh. Well HDD wrote a great piece when she was looking for a label. Pretty much said it came down to diminishing returns. They did promote Palomino. It didnt sell. But they managed to get it nominated at the country awards and the Grammys. And Sony got her out in front of critics. Best streaming of her career for Wranglers? Just exactly were those #s? Her #s have always been low. The song fell off Itunes a week after its release. Everything you mentioned about this new promotion Sony did. And she signed with Republic but Big Loud is handling radio and marketing. Shes not doing any better now tgen when she was with Sony.

And yet somehow Palomino was still the best selling female country album of 2022 in a year that had releases from Carrie, Maren, Kelsea and Lainey. Miranda's issue was likely the decisions the label was making when she made it clear she didn't agree with them. She said 100 times she wanted Tequila Does to be the 3rd single from Wildcard and the label sent settling down... one of them is a highlight of her setlist today and it's not Settling Down. When they sent Strange as the 2nd (and last) single from Palomino, Geraldene was taking off on TikTok. Again, one of them is still in her setlist the other isn't. I'm pretty sure that moment is when she made her choice considering the album era ended there. At 40 years old there will obviously be diminishing returns, the sad part is this year is the first time there are other potential female headlining acts in Kelsea and Lainey and Megan Moroney for the first time since the Carrie and Miranda era started.

If I Were A Cowboy was released as a single in October. The album came out 7 months later. A second single wasn’t released till 3 months after the album release, but no music video. They created 2 visualizers that were shot at the same time as the album cover. Sony didn’t get the album Grammy nominated, Miranda’s artistry got it nominated. Sony left so many potential singles on the table: Music City Queen, I’ll Be Loving You….after she left the label, she performed another potential single, Carousel, at the ACM Awards.
