Thanks Phil. I’m old school and all my experience was built on rotory, in fact DA wasn’t around when I learned. Now having said that I am a total fan of DA! Serious paint correction IMHO should be addressed with rotory if the paint will allow, then final with the DA. And you are so correct that rotory in an angle will leave real undesirable results; keep it flat as much as possible unless attacking an imperfection. Thank you so much for your videos. It helps me get back to the craft!

Generally, a rotary produces no marring, keeps the paint cooler, has less vibration / smoother ride, so it’s less taxing on hands or arms, & produces higher gloss then a DA. For all cutting/polishing I use a Dewalt rotary 100% of the time. I do use a DA, it works great for machine applied wax-(3D Poxy). Phil, try the orange pad from shine-mate or SPTA on rotary with 3D One , 6000 - 1200 rpm you will be absolutely shocked. Try 3D Speed (3 pea sized drops) one pass & wipe off. You will be frustrated that you didn’t try this combo sooner. One big problem - if you split the car (you rotary) (better half DA) half will look really good half will look outstanding.

Thanks for the info. I actually started out using rotary years ago. I have tried all sorts of combinations with it. I just prefer DA personally. I am very efficient with it. Thanks 😎👍🏼

I have both rotary, DA, and have used forced rotation (Flex).and the gear driven(Flex). When I use for cutting and finishing I have always done it the same way Yvan Lacroix teaches, but sometimes I only use DA on hard paint and on soft paint only rotary. Sometimes I am just a slacker on changing from machine to machine when don't have lots of time and just do the pad switch😁😁 something I always do is change the original grease from factory since have found the machine running colder, that's what I have felt.

Phil…you need to get the new 8mm forced rotation one that they have. I’ve been searching the tube for a review and I can’t find one. Now you can use rotary and fix the holograms with the dual action. 👍🏽👊🏽

Just keep it moving you'll pick it up very quickly. I started out with an Old Milwaukee(not the sudsy one) rotary and used nothing but lamb's wool 8-9" pads. That was almost 40 yrs ago now! (sheesh) Now? I use a DA constantly either my old Porter Cable 7424xp, or my Griot's g8-g9. I love the fact that the newer machines are SO much lighter! I was on vacation last week but noticed this debate got warmer than it should. Use what your comfortable with support each other. I have adapted Yvan’s methods for many vehicles and it works for me. You guys use a dual action and you get outstanding results which anyone would be proud of. I personally use corded polishers but I do appreciate your reviews of battery powered polishers because they are not dealing with cords dragging across the floor and everywhere else. The DIY gold standard polish is what I find myself grabbing because it is so versatile and uses less product. I do find the wipe off easier when using a two step. Do you have a code for DIY? I use your code at car supplies and would like to use yours at DIY. Thank you for the video!

Phil could you do a review on the SPTA polishing pads? Some of their pads such as the Bevelled Triangle 5-6'' range are amazing value and look very similar to the shine mate pads which are highly regarded. Im curious how they feel/compare to the more expensive foam pads(Shine mate, buff& shine, rupes, lake country), I suspect it might have a lower quality velcro backing plate but the german made foam might be identical to the shine mate.

Hi Phil, would a finishing pad like this be able to take out polishing defects from a heavy cut wool pad+long throw D.A or would you need slightly more cut in the pad?
@MirandaDetailing Жыл бұрын
Hi. Good question. That would really depend on the hardness/softness of the paint. This pad was designed for jeweling, they have their yellow pad that is designed for polishing.

Hi. Thanks for I haven’t used the corded versions yet, but I’m sure they are great if these are. We use these SPTA cordless polishers for everything. We can do paint corrections with them also. They are not an inferior polisher at all. We use them over the Rupes cordless polishers because they feel better. Give them a try.

Very true! However, they both have pros and cons. Just curious, are you having good results with the D.I.Y jeweling pad? I have the Lake country blue waffle "finnesing" pad. I wonder if there is much of a difference if I switch to using the D.I.Y Jeweling pad
@MirandaDetailing8 ай бұрын
Hi. That’s true. The jeweling pad is great but I rarely do a final polish with it. I love using my orange LC pads to finish. On really soft finicky paint yes the red pad is awesome. But honestly I use water soft pads I have to finish on soft paint. The jeweling pad is awesome but it’s certainly not the only pad.
@btbd27858 ай бұрын
@MirandaDetailing I Hey Phil. You mentioned you use "Water soft pads? Never heard of those? Do I am going to be removing some medium to heavy defects off of soft clearcoat. Then I am going to be using a Primer finishing polish before ceramic.coating. Using a Rotary for that process. So what pads would you recommend
@MirandaDetailing8 ай бұрын
Oh sorry. It autocorrected. Meant to say “whatever soft pads”. I do t use a rotary for finishing or primer polishing before a coating. I usually use our orange LC pads and DR beasleys NSP45 to polish/prime then I coat it.
@btbd27858 ай бұрын
@MirandaDetailing Okay. So I have Gyeon's Prime and also picked up Labocosmetica Fiero. I'm thinking I will use the Fiero. If you say the orange may finishing down better than the Jeweling pad,then I will probably try the UDOS Khaki pad. Which is one of the pads designed for the UDOS 31 AND 51E series. If that doesn't work, then I could try the Orange Pad. Do you use the Regular Flat pad, CCS? Or, do you use the SDO OR HDO series, which you can also get in the CCS series?

Nice review on the Rotary Phil . I agree depends whatever you’re efficient at or the job at hand. 👍. Speed 2 and on that rotary just slightly more quick are movement and no pressure. Speed 2 on the SPTA rotary is like speed 1 on the flex rotary that’s 600rpm. 500-700rpm is my preferred rpm. So the rupes on speed 1 is 450 and speed 1 flex is 600rpm. What’s the max RpM on that SPTA? I like to use a pad washer with my polishers.
