Great job Miriam! I was mostly bedridden for 3.5 years and now am lifting 160lbs in the gym and running on my treadmill even doing pullups which I could never even do in my life. I couldnt hold my guitar against my body or move my hands and down to two foods. Full body tension and nerve pain and many other very serious symptoms, the list is basically endless. I stopped driving and had to quit my job. My "chronic TMS" began in 2020 and 2023 was the scariest year by far. Now I'm living my life more and more with the sensations, even searching for a new job and had a job interview recently. I learned the TMS process is diametrically opposite when this passed November my recovery finally began after a series of really bizarre events...I haven''t had a bed ridden day since November and never want to be bed ridden ever again!!! TMS is a defense strategy and once I demoted the importance of TMS in my life (meaning dropping any TMS tools that don't exist as you mentioned in the end of your success story) my awareness began to shift when I continually went back out into the world everyday despite what I was feeling and observing what it was protecting me from. Once you realize you cannot hurt yourself in the non-structural realm and that everything is a false association thats when the recovery journey begins...

Good to see your comment here David. I’m looking for a new job too and have so far spent a few weeks in the gym, still a struggle to gain my weight back and nervous about people judging my new body. Also seeing a therapist which I’m questioning. So, happy to see you moving forward…. And good luck with the job!!! Miss seeing you in the group but I too have taken a break from group and trying to gradually get on with life. Thanks also for giving me those list of TMS doctors

@@Alyshahouston I just started doing everything with the sensations. My evidence keeps growing. Outcome indepence, indifference. I had several bizarre events that finally made me believe this is completely non-structural...

Yeah that makes me very curious of your events! So happy for you. Mine happened right after lifting an extremely heavy mattress that felt like I was lifting a concrete wall so I think I’ll always have some doubts if something got shifted or knicked. Super bizarre symptoms

Ok so I listened to this and something happened! I am experiencing RA (note I'm not identifying with it anymore) and woke up this morning with excruciating pain in my right foot and couldn't walk without using a crutch. Part way through this video I got up to do something and walked almost without a limp. The pain had eased right off but then migrated into the other foot. It's niggling and hovering but much better than earlier this morning. I know what it is and yeah, it might be that nocebo autoimmune nonsense, but to me it's TMS! Thanks to you both.

Hi Miriam thank you for sharing your TMS story. I love your view that if your pain or symptoms is truly TMS , and you fully believe that, there is no season that you cannot get back to doing things and exercising that is suitable for your age and fitness levels. ❤ Just want to add it’s the Fear that stops us..😊

As I’m watching this I’m out walking and feeling the nerve shocks in my right hand, and arm feeling the stinging in my right foot 2nd toe and nerve tingling in right foot and angle I’m feeling so hopeful with this amazing story! She’s very smart and inspiring. My nerve issues are so specific that anyone would believe it’s something pressing on it but I am telling my brain it’s not true. It’s a conspiracy theory! 😂. So many nuggets brought up by you Dan in your back and forth with her.

Great successtory Miriam! I followed a mindfulness course before I knew about Tms. And it didn’t work!! You really have to embody it and take it through your day.. Sorry you had to deal with all this pain.You describe the inner conflict so well! Loved how you overcame insomnia.. took away the fear , let sleep come natural. You inspired me , I’m gonna placebo myself more and more. What a transformational journey you went and are going through. Thanks for sharing ❤ Thanks for uploading Dan❤

Why do I feel discouraged watching this interview? Makes it look so easy to get out of the pain/fear syndrome. It only took her 8 weeks! I like the conflict idea but it takes time to know you have TMS and live and behave normally. I know she's right but this is something I'm struggling with. Driving for 15 minutes or sitting that long is a big accomplishment for me for the day! My brain is too scared to return to completely normal activities I guess. I aspire to those who can but I feel a long way off. I think this comment alone shows a negative story I'm telling myself. I feel there's more I can do but maybe I find comfort in the knowing what to expect rather than not knowing if I should do more.

Comparison is a danger signal to your brain. Everybody’s journey is different! ❤. I used to find success stories discouraging because “she is better and I am not”. Now I try to look at it this way: she did it and so can I! It’s all in your mindset.

Hey it's Miriam here. I understand that I may have made it sound easy... But when I was in the midst of it, it felt far from easy, and I had reached the point of having suicidal thoughts. I think there's almost always a point when things get so bad that we are forced to change or reconsider different options. I stumbled upon TMS when I had reached that point, and because I knew my life was at stake I followed all the advice to the T. This was what helped, but at the time it did not feel easy at all. Please don't give up ❤

Here I disagree with Mirian...I have anxiety and I have no idea what it is that I'm anxious about, but it manifests as physical symptoms. I'm working on both the psychological anxiety and the TMS which I think are basically the same thing. I KNOW I will recover from both.

I have struggled with insomnia for 4 years now. I find it hard to completely “not care” about what will happen tomorrow because there has been times when I break down in work and the worst possible outcome happens. If anyone has more advice for insomnia please let me know. Thanks 🙏 very inspiring stuff though!

One thing that has helped me with insomnia is to relax and say “it’s okay if I don’t sleep. I want to sleep, but I’m not going to get mad. I will just be restful and enjoy the comfort of my bed”. And sometimes I just actually go to sleep! Sometimes not so much sleep, but I don’t feel as bad the next day since I have such a calmer approach and then the next night I’m more tired and actually fall asleep. Getting frustrated always make it so much worse- then you get your heart rate up, nerves going, which wakes you up more. I talk to my Heavenly Father as well as I lay there :)

Super Stuff! This captures the whole ball of wax. 1) bieng confident we re not diseased/tissue damaged 2) talking to our brain/symptoms 3) not catastrophizing: this past week im still dealing with my father’s death at the Bank my numbness traveled from feet to thighs- i was fearing i couldnt walk. Total proof right? Ive convinced myself covid gave me nerve damage 2.3 yrs ago! I get validation often it isn’t

How do we deconditon the tensing and chronic holding patterns we develop with the pain?
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou 5 ай бұрын
In my case, I tried for a long time to relax and stretch the muscles. Never worked. Only once I taught my brain that the pain was unimportant and the pain left did my muscles relax on their own. I did not do anything proactive to loosen the muscles. As long as the brain perceived danger, it would just make recently relaxed/stretched muscles tight again. Start top down. Focus on safety in the brain.

Hi, I have two genuine questions about women and PDP. If women have a negative body image, about some body parts, or afraid to leave the house without make-up, or if they have medical procedures like injectables, would that be messages of danger to the brain? Also, blood seems to me to signal danger to the brain. If you bleed on a monthly basis, wouldn't that up the brain's sense of danger? Could that be a part of the reason why women have more chronic "diseases"? TIA!
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou 5 ай бұрын
any self criticism or judgment can be perceived as a danger. As for the blood, it depends on your belief about it. When you realize that the monthly bleeding is a normal and healthy part of being a woman, the fear doesn't need to cause any symptoms. The ratio of my viewers is 60% women, 40% men. I'm not 100% convinced women get more chronic conditions than men. I just think women may be more willing to seek out a solution and men are often encouraged to "be a man" and tough it out. Purely speculative, but just my thoughts. In the end, male or female, the perception of danger turns on symptoms. Safety turns them off.

@@PainFreeYouyes i was thinking the same ! Sadly enough men are supposed to endure everything and there is a lot of shame ( unnecessary !!)for them to open up about their pain , and emotional suffering…past and present.

@@PainFreeYou thank you for your answer. Interesting that self criticism could be perceived as danger. It's not only messages of safety, then, but acceptance in a broad sense as well.

Such a great question! All my life I had body conscious fears, from childhood. As I got into the mindbody space I realized it was part of my whole issue...the feeling that there's something wrong with me, long before I ever had chronic symptoms. I was too fat, i wasn't pretty enough, my nose was too big, always self criticism and feeling less than other girls. Never leaving the house without makeup once I was in my teens. The belief that I'm not enough. Very fascinating to see how the feeling of "something wrong with me" became the main thought when I began to suffer with PDP.
