Thanks for a great detailed video Two suggestions based on my own experience - to measure the location for new holes ... simply use the masking tape on the removed end cap and poke the holes through the tape - remove the tape and reapply to the newly cut body, using the edge of the tape for depth and aligning the circumference location - when applying silicon sealant, apply a small bead then spray your finger with windex before running it along the bead ... along with the mask-off, this gives a pro finish!

Pretty cool watch.. not to sure how i feel about shortning the exhaust however.. everyone knows these bikes run hot and i could only imagine stop and go traffic with a slight breeze and that hot exhaust smoke is now heating your caliper rotor lines etc... and potentionallly more soot build up.. 🤔 none the less i love your videos man.. keep up the great work..

Thanks. If you had an exhaust that ran along the swinging arm, that might indeed be an issue, but since the KTM exhaust kicks up at an angle, it isn't even close to the caliper, rotor or brake lines, especially since heat rises. I've run shorty exhausts on this bike without any heating or soot issues.

@MotoMirius appreciate the reply as always.. it is a nicer look in my opinion for sure.. I've just finished my 2nd RC 390 rebuild complete 2017. Transmission collar bushings, 3 gears ⚙️ conrod bearing shells for crank main journal new primary cylinder head camshafts(intake/exhaust) cam cover, timing chain ⛓️ and the dreaded oem timing chain tensioner.. with only 17,000kms on it and no previous valve clearance adjustments on top of running 10w40 😒 as his service paper work implied I can only think he road the living pants off this bike with no proper cool down on top of a faulty time chain tensioner led to its demise and his reason for sale... but the craziest thing of it all was the pin for the tensioner looks exactly like the piece I pulled from the crankshaft main journal oil port.. I hope others that read this would atleast consider proper maintenance intervals, including the inspection of that tensioner to see if the pin is still intact on either SIDE.. even if no codes are flagged, gotta listen to the bike.

Considering options to make the bike a bit louder. The hole saw one presented here, a Coffman shorty and a Pro Race shorty. The Pro Race is basically a straight pipe. Any experience or knowledge about these two options? Are they gonna be much louder than removing the baffle from the stock? Thanks David!
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius Жыл бұрын
They are going to be louder than the hole saw. Even the Pro Race isn't that loud - because the bike still has a cat and presilencer - and the presilencer does most of the sound reduction. For me the optimum sound is decat, keep the ugly presilencer and then a choice of slip on/ removed or modified baffles.

You are not going to like this, but the reality is that sound clips on the internet do not accurately represent the sound in real life. The clips I've shown are to give you an idea of the difference between the two slip ons - with the rest of the system the same in both clips.

@@surslaughter3524 I say that if you rely on sound clips to choose between mufflers then you are likely to be surprised when you fit your choice to the bike. There are a number of processing steps involved between recording and what you listen to, all of which add some degree of distortion. With a professional recording setup and experienced engineers these obstacles can be overcome - but you aren't likely to find that on KZbin or even on manufacturer websites - in fact you will rarely find sound clips on manufacturer websites - and there is a reason for this.

@@MotoMirius so with your knowledge, what would you suggest to me. Debaffle, slip on, or full exhaust with a decat if I’m looking for a good change in exhaust note but also trying to keep it reasonable on price. I found an exhaust kit from a company that seems pretty respected “Dominator”. I know you usually get what you pay for but it’s a fraction of the price of other kits and they claim no fuel remap is required. I’ve spoke to some current users of the kit as well and they all give good praise. The main brand slip ons seems way expensive for the little change in sound they give. I don’t want to spend $1000 on a $5000 bikes exhaust. I won’t be keeping it forever, I will be upgrading in a few years. So someone in my position, who doesn’t care about DB levels and lives in a state (US) that doesn’t have emissions. I thank you for taking your time to explain this to me. I appreciate you.

Hello, How loud is the bike De-baffled, vs Stubby, vs no exhaust straight out of the cat? I just removed the exhaust completely just having it come out of the cat to see what it sounds like, and I'd say it's a little bit too loud. Just curious what you'd say the different sound levels are.
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Loud is very subjective. Premuffler and silencer removal is much too loud for most people, not a little bit too loud - you would have to live somewhere with no people and no police. After that it's just a matter of tuning the sound to what you want. I would recommend decat and put the premuffler back on, then go from there. Stubby with debaffle will be borderline too loud - because it will be a straight through system with no baffles, OK for low rev though town and very loud on acceleration. Stubby with baffle is similar to/ slightly louder than stock debaffle.

@@Only1Sethy There isn't really anything that on its own will give a noticeable power increase. What dyno tests have shown is that removing the premuffler will reduce mid range power - with the stock ECU. If you were to do it with a dyno and get a custom tune on a piggyback you might get more power. Boosterplug is designed to smooth out low rev running, it isn't designed for or capable of dealing with any major modifications.

Shortening will impact the sound, I would expect little impact on performance. However in the coming weeks I propose to do some tests on this - but my experience is that on the 390 there is not much change.

Of course, it's got less chance to silence - shorter exhausts with the same construction will always be louder. it's not going to be LOUD because you've got a cat and presilencer in front of it.

if the exhaust gasket leaks a smidge i can feel some air close by is the gasket done for or can i just readjust it back
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 3 жыл бұрын
It could be either, drop the slip on back off and check the surface of the gasket, if it's OK then you are good and just need to align it properly when refitting, if there is damage then get a new one, but the old one will be fine for now, though you may still find that it will seal when refitted. Fitting exhausts properly is always a matter of experience.

@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 4 жыл бұрын
It can have a baffle or not have a baffle just like the stock exhaust. You can modify the baffle, just like the stock exhaust. You can also make it removable, just like the stock exhaust. Just like the stock exhaust you can also alter the sound levels by swapping the cat and/ or presilencer with different pipes to vary the level of sound reduction.

I don't record the decibel reading. It isn't any louder than the road legal Akrapovic slip on that KTM sells for the bike. Greetings sir, can you inform me as to where the cat converter is located on a duke 390 or a 125 ?
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 5 жыл бұрын
On a gen 2 Duke the exhaust is made of the header pipe which connects to the engine then the cat which sits by your left knee leg when riding the into the presilencer by the rear shock then out to the rear silencer. Cat deletes normally remove both cat and presilencer. Skäl. David

@@MotoMirius Sir, my main concern is, by removing the stock exhaust and the bend pipe that is attached to it and installing an aftermarket exhaust with an aftermarket bend pipe, will there be any unwanted consequences ? I do not wish for the catletic converter to be disturbed or removed and judging from your explanation, it won't be involved at all in what I want to do right ?
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 5 жыл бұрын
If you are just removing the rear silencer and not the presilencer then no, you will not remove the cat. If that is all you do then there should not be any consequences. If your new silencer is very free flowing then you may benefit from an aftermarket fuelling device to avoid the bike running lean. Normally it’s ok. Skäl. David

Why is the white smoke coming up ??
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 2 ай бұрын
White is water - normal in cold and damp conditions where water will condense in the exhaust as a hot exhaust cools down - then burns away as the hot exhaust gas hits it. If you live somewhere hot, you may never see this.
