Dark regen is really nice after a bossfight if you're getting darkness for clearing, you're almost guaranteed full health for the next stage when combined with the fountain.

Love your videos because you provide clear helpful explanations. TIL fated persuasion can reroll well of Charon AFTER buying one or two items. This is helpful in Styx after you know you have extra keys and want to load up for Hades, buying 5+ items from one well.

Nice video! This is the stack I've been using except I'm using Olympian Favor over Dark Foresight. I think I've grown attached to higher-rarity boons and find it hard taking commons at times, although I'm still learning which boons it actually makes a significant impact on, and I've also been noticing that pom upgrades (which Dark Foresight gives) can make rarity either more or less useful for different boons. I'm going to start trying Dark Foresight though, because getting deeper into the boon trees for a deity gives synergy that makes all of the boons much better, and DF is close to giving +20% boons throughout a run. Thanks again for the video, and I enjoyed stumbling across your stream yesterday.

I'm glad you changed your point of view on Golden touch. I remember back when you thought this skill was mediocre at best but it can really go a long way, even when you're not saving for premium Charon items in Styx. I would just not recommend it for speedruns.

I think either works because I disagree with your point of skipping shops for speed runs so shops lower your time. Generally you want your "ideal" build before getting to Styx which is why you spend earlier for speed runs.

I almost never use it. I would really only use it if I was farming up my account again. The early gold is too useful for ensuring that the run is successful

What I love to do it put on Golden Touch and then swap an initial keepsake (like the shackles or a god I'm trying to build my run around early) out for the cthonic coinpurse in Asphodel. Scales really nice.

The Chthonic Vitality boost in Styx in an interesting point. I was confused over the Chambers Vs Encounters definition at first. Pierced Butterfly and Lambent Plume don't level-up in the Styx chambers (as they're only activated by Encounters), and I thought that CV healing worked the same way. Time to reassess CV! Would love to hear you give a rundown of the various Benefits Package perks and tips on what to look out for there with melee/ranged builds. Keep the quality content coming, JP!

For infernal soul vs stygian, I think an important point for beginners or even intermediate is reducing things you have to worry about. Having to gather stones, even for casts that dont stick into enemies often got me hurt because it distracted me from dodging enemies. It also let me just focus more on just DPS-ing with my other abilities instead of cast, while still getting a decent amount out of the cast when it comes off cooldown. I have a similar reasoning for privileged status vs family favorite. Having to always pay attention to if you have status on can overload your attention from dodging and dealing damage. Obviously you can just say "get good", but for many players not trying to optimize and beat 32heat, I think they can do better having slightly less but more consistent and less distracting damage boosts.

Yeah, this is absolutely the reason I switched over to Stygian Soul the moment I unlocked it. Having to gather up the stones from amid the packs of enemies was very much putting me in danger I didn't need to be in as a player still learning the game. Either that or I couldn't cast for ages because I simply forgot to pick them up in the chaos of the fight. I'm only now thinking I may swap back and give the other variant a try again.

I know I'm late to the party but it's never to late to start. I started to play the game blind and didn't know i could switch the abilities so my points were all spread thin. I ended up refunding them and didn't want to shop recklessly and foudn this guide WHICH has helped me sooo so much. i have def been going with fated persuasion lately. Much nicer to have a your pick (usually) to really get boons that compliment what you already have.

fated persuasion is better for getting duo boons but fated authority is good for getting a specific duo boon early. I'm not exceptional at this game but I like going for Exclusive access, which makes all boons epic or greater, and authority is better for this.

Family favorite is often the superior choice if Artemis gives your initial boon since Marked doesn’t last long and is useless on single targets. This is also sometimes true for Athena, Zeus or Poseidon in the case they don’t show up again since, like Artemis, they can’t offer a curse initially.

Fated authority is good if you are trying to go specifically for account rewards. If that's your goal, you just keep your boons and poms to minimum necessary to get to Styx and buy rare item.

I actually feel the opposite on Reflexes. Once you realize dashing late is better that dashing early having the damage boost feels good man, especially on a cast build. Plus, the game is filled with close call dashes so it's free damage. I used high confidence after beating hades with all other mirror upgrades and only long enough to fulfill the prophesy and then never turned it on again.

Yeah, reflexes can be great. I just use dash for movement and positioning much more than dodging. It IS a lot of damage though...

Stubborn defiance is way more useful than death defiance. It gives one chance to live for each room you enter, meaning u can die twice in each room. Unlike death defiance let’s say u died three times, once for each boss and then u faced the last boss but your health is low and u have no chance to live again, that’s not the case with stubborn defiance because you just entered a new room so u already have another chance. Other than that you helped a lot especially that i was using that “first hit” thing, it’s kinda useless because u hit them once but there’s like 90% left and ur not going anywhere lol but the back stabbing is like constantly and the impact is remarkable so thx

It's definitely more chances per room. I found that at a certain heat level, regular rooms aren't going to give you much trouble but the bosses will, so only having one dd can cut a run short.

Abyssal blood also reduces ALL damage from the ennemy though, while boiling blood only increase attack and special damage, so if most of your damage comes from something like doom effects or zeus thunder or hangover effects you're bettter off with abyssal blood. Also I tend to value 1% damage reduction more as 1% extra damage, because like, if I deal 1dps on a 100 health ennemy and they deal 100 damage to me during that time. If I get +50% dps I'll kill them 50% faster so instead of taking 100 damage I'll take 66 damage. If I get 50% damage reduction though I'll reduce damage by 50% meaning I take only 50 damage. On top of that abysall blood will translate to direct damage reduction, so in most cases you'll take a straight 25% less damage during a fight, while the 50% damage increase from boiling blood is additive. So for exemple You have an attack that deal 100 damage and a boon that gives you +100% damage. You now deal 200 damage. If I get 25% damage reduction then I can take full benefit of it. On the other hand if I get 50% extra damage it'll actually stack additively with the +100% damage leading to +150% damage, meaning I only deal 250 damage so it's actually a 25% damage increase in that case. On the other hand boiling blood is certainly faster for speedrun, and It can also allow to go over certain damage threshold for specific ennemies to one shot or two shot them (especially if they get increased heatlh) but overall I'd actually argue abyssal blood is better if you don't have a specific reason to take boiling blood (it does make fight last a bit longer though, so not necessarily worth it cause it's a very marginal improvement and the extra exhaustion you get for longer run might outweigh the numerical benefit) edit : I'll also add that boiling blood gets better if you consider things like acorn against hades for exemple, since the damage reduction doesn't apply on negated hit but you'll still profit from the extra damage during that time.

She certainly works super well with pp and is insane with Chiron bow for artemis duo boon and artemis special, but otherwise she's actually less useful than demeter's slow which inexplicably makes bosses derp around longer, or poseidon's movement dot effect, which is good for counting as an extra status on top of the not-insignificant damage. Don't get me wrong, I love aphrodite still, but lately I haven't been picking the rose as often as I used to and when I do get her, I pick the extra life bonus boon most of the time. Damn you, meta builds!

It's just one dimensional is all; other Gods offer damage + better utility but ill tell you what. Hades winds up charmed veryyyy often by multi hit Weakness attacks, so between that +20-25% bonus damage dealt to Weak enemies she's doing fine for me too at middling Heat level. I dunno if there is an internal cooldown on afflictions, but since Charm lasts like 1s on bosses, if the boss is afflicted with it once or twice in quick succession they often just pivot in opposite directions

This was probably answered in your trinket video, but if you're going with Chthonic Coin Purse, would/does that influence your choice between Deep Pockets and Golden Touch? Does anyone know if Golden Touch and Coin Purse interact at the start of the run? (Logic being you're going from the House of Hades to Tartarus)

I notice that if I have the pre requisites for a duo or legendary I see it surprisingly often with God’s Pride, but I don’t go for specific duo or legendary boons in my runs yet. Having more important boons being Epic is nice especially if I am running Dark Foresight which I usually am. But I’m only on low heat still (highest like 10 or 11) so take this with a gigantic mountain of salt. I’ve seen someone data mine probabilities from early access days but not sure how accurate they are to the current game but based on that data God’s Pride seems better if you want better quality boons overall, especially from Hermes.

As someone who used to go for duo boons/legendaries early on, i find myself climbing the higher heats with god’s pride now than before. An epic attack/special early on paired with pom blossom makes the run A LOT easier

Man I just love you and hope to catch your stream sometime but I think you missed with fated authority it is faster even for speed running cuz lets say you run to charnos or Ares room and u know his cast is bad and doom is only effective when applied to special they come in handy just to get a palm instead of Ares and since you wanna play aggressive to finish the run fast you are likely to reset if forced to pick athena for example which makes fated persuasion is somewhat defensive and unreliable choice and also lets say i want rare boon from athena i would be wearing her keepsakes in the first place... what do you think man... If you read all of this know that u look better with beard lol

List of different choices of mine: Stygian Soul, i literally forgot to pick up bloodstones and don't use casts with infernal, not a cast build fan :/ Family Favorite, i don't feel good with using it, status curses either last no time (doom), are really bad by themselves (weak, chill), or take multiple boons to start using (jolt, rupture, mark) the only status effect that feels good for me is hangover Olympian Favor, i am trying my best to get those legendary and duo boons to complete prophecies for big cash

I think the only few differences i have are due to laziness, i always run stygian soul because i know i can hit cast every 3s and it will work. Also family favourite because its basically a passive vs active. And yeah i generally dont spend until Styx unless im forced into a shop so golden touch nets 200-300 or so minimum each run.

3:18 That doesn't seem mathematically accurate. Even if you try avoiding getting hit, the damage mitigation still applies to the times you fail and get hit anyway. Suppose you would die in 10 attacks but avoid 90% attacks, then you'd die after about 100 enemy attacks on average. If you have 25% damage mitigation then you only die after getting hit 13.33 times so if you manage to dodge 90% attacks, you'll die after about 133 attacks. Unless you can dodge 100% attacks, the damage mitigation stacks with you dodging skills. They don't conflict with each other. That being said I agree that boiling blood is probably better because killing things faster means they won't attack as much.

Agreed. Which is also why the damage reduction boons from aphrodite and athena were never bad to me even though they never had crazy percentages. Also, given how many times I cleared something on 15-25 life, if damage mitigation "gained" me that life, that's as good as an extra death defiance or an entire clear.

That's true, however I think our point here is that it's not necessarily a dps loss when you pick damage reduction boons. It gets even murkier when you factor in psychological factors involved when you realise you can take more hits safely.

How percentages work in this game is also relevant. +50% Attack and Special is only 50% of those abilities' base damage, so it's not actually a huge damage boost. As for the damage mitigation, I actually think that JP is missing the super important second part of Abyssal Blood: it's also a 25% slow effect. That's a big deal on the later bosses, making it easier to avoid them and harder to miss them.

It does throw some aiming off if you are used to things moving a certain speed. However, movement speed seems to also slow down the rate at which enemies including bosses initiate attacks and having them standing still at the very least less time spent dodging which translates to higher effective dps.

It took me longer than I’m proud to admit to realize that I could use my keys to unlock all of these upgrades..... I was able to reach Hades for my first time the very next run after this. @@JawlessPaul I finally beat him! I unlocked the Chaos Shield and got really lucky with some Ares boons. It felt so good. I’ve actually been able to beat him 3 more times since then. It’s crazy given how hard it’s been for me to just get to the final area. I’m working on farming blood and diamonds to unlock more contractor stuff and weapon upgrades now. Now I’m just having a hard time deciding what upgrades are worth spending blood on

Paul, can you recommend a sword build pls? Its the last weapon i need to beat hades with, and i feel like i need to clear the game with every weapon. I have the aspect of zag maxed because skully is a big time troll.

I find the sword difficult because you need to engage at such close range. If that's what's giving you trouble, you could always go for a cast-based build such as the Hunting Blades duo boon.

Nemesis sword with artemis attack, dash and marked targets. that should work with any sword other than arthur. Just dash attack, don't use regular attack

Tried a google search, plenty of people talking about it, no-one explaining... another quick question: will everything be OK in the end between me and Dusa ? basically they are moments where you can't take damage. In a dash there are several moments during the dash that you can avoid any damage.

Just beat Hades with Cerberus collar and that ice god lady her best power was crystals that do damage when you use your cast and powered up the golden fists still got every weapon to get past Lev 2 bar the sword that is still at 1 but managed it without the shady from sisphus but have a ton left to do I really love this, almost as much as god of war 4...no for real am addicted I'm sure if I had a job I'd be fired right now for playing at work...they don't care for that btw.

With death defiance you can save all 3 for the boss but with stubborn you only get 1.
