I’ll never understand why Mirrorverse Spirk is more popular than Mirrorverse Spones.
@Cdr20022 ай бұрын
@@philosopherscribe39Spirk is basically impossible in the mirror universe: Spock’s revolution would destroy his relationship with Kirk on all levels. Mirror McCoy on the other hand… is mentioned to be rather sentimental, and could be amenable to Spock’s cause, especially if shown the life experiences of his prime counterpart and how much better life is under the Federation as opposed to the Terran Empire. They could get really close, ngl

This show was released from 1966-1969 but it did not get nearly the attention it received around 1970-72 when it was re-released on secondary tv channels like channel 9 or 11 and others. The term used back then was "syndication". CBS licensed the rights for other lesser known tv stations to run the series on better time slots and better evenings. That's when Star Trek really took off. I know because I was a young kid who watched TOS while it played as well as the re-runs during syndication. One night at a fraternity party at my frat house on a Florida beach, a brother came up to his dog and reenacted the mind meld we see between Spock and McCoy. The dog stared at the frat brother with the same exact look in his eyes as McCoy did here. I think there really might have been a connection. I think my frat brother's IQ was instantly boosted like Morbius after using the Krell's "Plastic" headpiece in the movie "Forbidden Planet".
@Rickwmc4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. The high school kids who were partying and dating during the late 1960's and had no time for the show (especially on Friday nights) had reached their 20's and were either in college or working and had plenty of time to watch the reruns every weekday evening at 6 P.M. The lure of the show was electric and ratings skyrocketed. What followed was a very good cartoon series and then the movie franchises.
@mikepowell8611 Жыл бұрын
That's because they used a different rating system in '66-69' They didn't break it down by age or gender. So once they did they found out that the 18-34 year old men loved ST.
@MrPeterbs Жыл бұрын
Actually that's a common misconception. Star Trek immediately gained a huge fanbase (with young people under age 30) even in it's 1st Season on NBC. The James Blish story adaptations that first appeared in 1967 were huge bestsellers and a huge letter writing campaign from fans stopped NBC from cancelling the show at the end of the 2nd Season. As Mike Powell points out ratings were construed differently back then and there were less TVs per household.
@Larrymh07 Жыл бұрын
I watched the show from age 8 to 10. I was immediately hooked on the phasers, photon torpedoes and transporter beam. I didn't realize until decades later how well the writing and the chemistry between the actors were.

The irony with this scene is. If the Federation crew had of been honest with Empire Spock from the beginning they could have saved themselves a lot of grief and drama trying to hide their true intentions from the Empire crew. Because Empire Spock like his counterpoint Federation Spock in his seemless logic would have realized that having these interlopers would do none of them any good and that The Federation crew would never assimilate into the evil Empires way of doing things. For example he would never turn Federation Kirk into being a villain like himself, so it was a no starter having the Federation crew there. So if Kirk and Co could have had a quiet word with him, he could have gotten them back to their proper universe with out the fuss. But i would have loved to seen what happened in the Empire when the Empire crew were restored to their normal positions, especially between Empire Kirk and Empire Spock. I would have been interesting to watch.

@zitacarno44436 жыл бұрын
While doing some research into the various forms and aspects of the mind-meld (technically synaptic pattern displacement), I read that the forced meld is considered a major crime by Starfleet, but there are a few instances where this version of the procedure is necessary in order to obtain information otherwise unavailable. And watching this scene I noticed that the mirror Spock exhibited a very human emotion---desperation; he had to find out in a tearing hurry why the captain and Dr. McCoy had spared his life, and he saw this as the only way. And he found out about the transporter malfunction.
@Smeginator6 жыл бұрын

The forced mind-meld with an unwilling subject is considered a crime, but there are certain circumstances where speed is essential. And rest assured, Bones recovered rapidly from the otherwise unnerving experience.

Do you remember the TOS episode when Spock hid inside nurse Christine while Hanoc took over the bridge? In the end, Christine literally gushed in describing her experience carrying Spock's consciousness in her. It was totally embarrassing for Spock. McCoy had a little different experience carrying Spock's katra. It was not so much of a thrill for him in "Search for Spock".
