Oh god for me it looked like his character was so disgusted by what he saw that he needed some time to calm himself and continue to work. I was amazed by how genuine this looks and would never thought that this wasn't because of a perfect job of the actor, but rather because of his mistake.

It was not explicitly stated in the scene, but by the blood stain outlines on the walls, you can see that the Tooth Fairy put children's bodies with mirrors in their eyes to "watch" Ms. Lee being assaulted by him. I don't know about dragon transformation, but the Tooth Fairy was quite a sick individual.
@JJMomoida3 жыл бұрын
I haven't read the book but I did watch this before watching the TV series and I always thought it was odd how the latter walked back on the whole "putting mirrors in their eyes" bit. In the TV series, the shards are merely laid on the eyes, rather than forced into the orbits, as they are in the movie (again, can't speak for the book, as I've not read it yet). I found it odd because the TV show never really shied away from brutal imagery, yet in this one instance, it did.

Is Will back at his own crimescene (on a mystical level in the movie)? The theory in the movie about the broken mirrors is strange & Will looks like he relives deep memories in the house.
@Fugax_82 жыл бұрын
I don’t think there was anything mystical about the scene. In the books, it’s explained that Will is able to think exactly like the serial killers he is trying to catch, and that he often gets a lot of uncomfortable and twisted thoughts. He’s also still recovering mentally from being attacked by Lecter.

Scenes like this are what makes that show they made garbage. Making Will a killer just to get people to watch the show it makes me sick.
@KalOrtPor4 жыл бұрын
That's more true to Will's character though, he was living a tortured existence and grappling with his own psychopathic tendencies, years of empathizing with serial killers to catch them and following their crimes took a toll. He knew he wasn't far from being a serial killer himself and struggled with it, the trauma just under the surface was better portrayed by William Peterson in Manhunter.
@mikeboon61604 жыл бұрын
@@KalOrtPor What terrible representation of psychopathy. The definition of a psychopath is that they lack empathy. Will's enhanced empathy disqualifies him from being a psychopath. The show is about as realistic as Batman.
@KalOrtPor4 жыл бұрын
@@mikeboon6160 By that logic Hannibal Lecter himself would be the empath to end all empaths, just because he can easily get into people's minds and zero in how a person thinks and perceives, and deconstruct their personalities and emotions to the most base levels in order to break them....They are not mutually exclusive ideas as psychopathy is not a binary condition, but a spectrum, and there is a difference between cognitive empathy and emotional empathy (studies have shown psychopaths can be capable of both to varying degrees). Regardless, I said "tendencies", but I don't see how that's really relevant anyway since I was pointing out the difference between this movie versus the book and original film adaptation "Manhunter", in which what I said applies. Will is supposed to be suffering from severe PTSD and breakdowns throughout the movie, struggling with the realization he is like Lecter, and he loses control and runs out in the middle of their conversation and can't even bear to go back and see Lecter again. Norton's version comes off as flippant and smug, and they keep inventing reasons to go back to see Lecter to give Anthony Hopkins more screen time, when it was only supposed to be about 8 minutes total.
@mikeboon61604 жыл бұрын
@@KalOrtPor Yeah..the thing is that real psychos can't have PTSD. The whole disorder is characterized by a dysfunctional amygdala. Will is nothing like Lector. He can assume Lectors perspective and this leads him to fear that he himself is a psychopath, but in reality, he's subconsciously idealized Lector and wishes to see himself in the same likeness as someone who is as sophisticated and intelligent as Lector. Will's hatred of psychopaths causes him to eventually kill in the series but this is out of empathy not psychopathy.

It's really just a seperate adaption of the novel Red Dragon, so they shouldn't be compared in that regard, the only common feature they really have is the basic story of course, and that they shared the same director of cinematography. However, in terms of overall quality and execution, I'd say Manhunter wins big time. This is a 3/5 film, it's decent, better than Hannibal, but no where near the level of Manhunter and Silence of the Lambs.
