This wonderful piece of music and singing is beautiful and so are the words of the Psalmist. Its about coming to God with a repentance and brokenness. Knowing full well you are a sinner and feeling the weight of your sin. Its about coming to God the father and asking for forgiveness. We are all sinners and thats why Jesus paind the price once and for allfor all humanity's sin. We can be forgiven and made right with God the father through the sacrifice of Jesus his son. Peace and blessings to you all.

He didn't actually do it with helium, it's a joke. If we assume helium made you be able to hit high notes better, nobody would still be able to control the long note like that. The helium wears off and would be impossible to keep it at the same note. It would be decreasing in pitch actually. But helium does not actually increase your vocal range whatsoever. He's completely capable of hitting that note without it, they even had some sort of documentary where they spoke about how hard it was to increase the vocal range that far high. And they perform live and he now always hits that note with no problems.

Not like the modern, passionless rubbish that we call "music". This magnificent composition needs to be enjoyed, with passion and delight. Only when society wills to accept the art, this masterpieces will be the "top charts". But, despite the joy that this brings to the life of the listeners, that isn't going to happen. This type of choral music is part of Catholic heritage and has its roots in the Gregorian Chant renditions of the various Old Testament psalms which monks and nuns have chanted throughout the centuries, for the glory of God. I suspect few non-Catholics would have shown any interest in this type of music in the 17th and 18th centuries, especially as The Age of Enlightenment was unfolding (and some would have actively condemned it). I am glad that more and more non-Catholics are beginning to appreciate this type of music, not just for the singing, but for the actual meaning of the words.

I agree. That is why I switched to the Anglo-Catholic wing of the Anglican Communion. They are Catholic, use most of the Roman literature, including my own RSV Bible. And they have priests who are much more believable. Visit an Anglo-Catholic, and compare the speed that the Lord's Prayer, and the Hail Mary, are said. The Romans race through as if they have left the dinner on the table, and the Anglos treat it as important PRAYER. And, they use Latin, sing as well as the Choir at Westminster Cathedral. I don't regret leaving the church of my Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, and where all my family had their weddings and funerals. I love being at a Eucharist that is being con-celebrated with the congregation, and having so much power and honesty, and FAITH.

Amplius lava me ab iniquitate mea: et a peccato meo munda me. Asperges me hysopo, et mundabor: lavabis me, et super nivem dealbabor. Auditui meo dabis gaudium et laetitiam: et exsultabunt ossa humiliata. Averte faciem tuam a peccatis meis: et omnes iniquitates meas dele. Cor mundum crea in me, Deus: et spiritum rectum innova in visceribus meis. Ne proiicias me a facie tua: et spiritum sanctum tuum ne auferas a me. Redde mihi laetitiam salutaris tui: et spiritu principali confirma me.

Miserere (full title: Miserere mei, Deus, Latin for "Have mercy on me, O God") is a setting of Psalm 51 (50) by Italian composer Gregorio Allegri. It was composed during the reign of Pope Urban VIII, probably during the 1630s, for use in the Sistine Chapel during matins, as part of the exclusive Tenebrae service on Holy Wednesday and Good Friday of Holy Week.

Do try to read "I have met Him: God exists " by André Frossard. He was a devout Atheist. Nobody could be more Atheist than him, I think. He didn't know anything about religion. He was marxist. He was the son of a powerful politician. He did not search God. He had an evening date with a girl and a promising evening in front of him. He met God and two minutes later he was Christian Apostolic Roman Catholic.

I'm an atheist but I love Catholic culture, and most family values. This style of music and the artistry associated to it will never be lost because of the church, so congrats! I love that the church invested so much in artists. I would like to recommend that people read about Miserere on Wikipedia and how Mozart as a child stole this song from the church as a boy and had to answer to the Pope himself! Its an excellent read.

King David had stolen another's wife, had the husband murdered, then corrupted his government to cover it up. He'd gotten away with it but bringing the whole ugliness out in this song also brought out the beauty of forgiveness. To hear that beauty entering the frame of sadness and remorse, brings a richness to the music.

Open minded atheists will find the beauty in the world around them just as open minded Christians will. This is one of those gems in this world that is plain and simply beautiful regardless of anyone's background. Closing one's mind/ears/eyes/heart to beauty is one of the greatest tragedies in human experience.
