This is an excellent video. Chris Calton is a great storyteller. The Christiana was a very important event. Ant-bellum history is not quite the same without it. It took courage to make America a better place.

You mention unfair laws, but that does not address the dynamism completely. The runaways and their supporters were not only resisting the Fugitive Slave Act in the abstract, but they were also resisting the implementation of it. The runaways were resisting being tied up or whatever it would have taken to haul their bodies back to Maryland.
