Brown was following the Bible. White Southerners claimed self righteously to be religious but were self serving hypocrites. The plantation system was enriching them at the expense of blacks and they wanted to maintain the status quo: Its really that simple. Brown recognized this wickedness and acted accordingly. Therefore Brown was a hero.

@Tim Smith The Bible at its essence is about FREEDOM. It's FREEDOM that is the issue. Security and comfort are not the point. Just like these "lockdown" going on now as a result of COVID 19. I am amazed at how so many Americans are going along with this like sheep. Yes, the government is promising and in some cases providing. With a "big nurse" smile on their face. The petty government officials don't want to hurt us, they want to love us to death. There is an old Yiddish saying, "Don't do me any favors."

Brown was not following Biblical instruction. Brown committed both murder and theft at Pottawatomie. He murdered and robbed his political opponents. The victims were not slave owners and they were not battlefield combatants. Brown showed up at their houses in the middle of the night, murdered these men & their sons, then ransacked their homes.
