When I listen to this song, the intro brings forth something very fragile, I imagine a lonely dying light, twinkling to stay alive, trying to find reasons to keep on burning. At 1:10 the song keeps progressing and you find out the story of the candle what it's gone through, what it has seen, the love it's lost as it's the last one still to be. As he fades it into the nothing, he won't let go, even though the wicker cannot sustain itself, it still wants to burn, because if it goes out, it would signify the end for him but more importantly the end of who he cherished, disappearing with him, as if they never existed in the first place. At 2:35, he realises that he cannot cope with this idea and his love and the love he received is too strong to be forgotten, he finds a new strength, one that burns hotter than any conceivable fire , it consumes him in a dark flame. So dark the space around him seems to be light. He becomes rage, raw with hate, feeling cheated. He will never forget.

This got me thinking of like the birth and demise of MAN Song starts off with the birth, progressing through the childs life in school, graduation and into manhood then at 2:47 his life spirals downwards quickly thus stripping him of his hope and optimistic views of life he had growing up and molds him into a pessimistic slave.

I've always been of the opinion that music provides the emotion and the vocalist focuses it into words, at least ideally. Sometimes the music is powerful enough that you don't need a vocalist, but sometimes it's too complex to understand without words. That's just me though.

So, some people said - I'd assume more for giggles than being serious - one should play both songs at the same time. I did. It actually sounds pretty damn awesome! O.o I opened a tab for Pessismist first, because it's longer than Optimist. That way, the outro of Pessimist begins, almost exactly, when Optimist is over. I wouldn't even be surprised, if they did that intentionally.

I like to think of Misha and Tosin as progressive. The metal label is for such a specific sound. If you prefer death metal box and double bass for 5 minutes and guitarists playing 32nd notes, you are not going to be satisfied here. Progressive has such a huge range you can't expect the same every time and I love that. As for the mix, I don't hear any technical problems. I think Misha errs on the side of dark/warm mixes and I love it. To each his own.
