Take a look at Michael Kline's work - he does a traditional mishima using stamps and carving - them covers the piece with white slip to be scrapped away - wonderful work. Enjoying your videos - and this mug shape is very nice.

Hello Karan! I enjoy your teachings nearly every night. I would like to see the Mishama mug when it's glazed and out of the kiln. Quarantine greetings from Hamburg, Germany. Claudia

Absolutely! I will be bisque firing hopefully this weekend, and then will start glazing! :)

Karen, you are fantastic!!! As I watched this video as like with your others, I'm shaking my head in disbelief of your proficiency and common sense, natural talent in your craft. Thank you and thank your parents for me. I have quick question: since being quarantined and working, from home how do you properly manage your clay water clean up without hurting your plumbing? Thank you again!

I have a rinse system to get the majority of the stuff in a bucket in my sink. I’ll keep it in there for a long time- stuff will settle to the bottom- the water then overflows the rim into the sink and go down the drain. The second step is the Gleco trap I have under the sink to catch more. I have a video showing how I clean out the trap. And the bucket- I dump outside in the woods! kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJPJd6ysotGbq5Y

I used was resist that has dried and hardened a bit. I don’t scrape off the slip or underglaze though I sponge it off. I’ve been able to do several different colors that way.

Yes, Sue- that is another way to do it. I found for the effect I wanted the scraping worked best for me. It is the "historic" way of using the mishama technique- to cut off the slip portion. :). Whatever works best for anyone's particular application is great! :)Thanks for sharing!

Hi Karen- Thanks for the videos! How do you glaze these so that the Mishima shows through? I ONE TIME used a Shino and it actually crawled off of the slip, but it never did it again after that. The effect was so beautiful, that I keep trying though. Thanks again!

What type of glaze do you put in slip trailer, and when do you remove the glaze after decorating it.
@KaransPotsAndGlass4 жыл бұрын
I use the colored slip that is linked in the description- and I waited until it was a dry leatherhard before scraping.

It needs to be a harder wax like Mr Marks wax on, you put it n the pot let it sit overnight and then carve your lines, if that helps

DB's artworks exactly what I use. Perfect hardness

Hi DB- thanks, I do understand, and I have done it, it is just that it didn't give me the same look! :) Thanks! :) Someday I can try that wax to see if it works differently than mine.
