Coronavirus Quarantine: Video 25
I will be trying to post simple daily videos for inspiration for my students, and my subscribers to help give us some learning and distraction during this national emergency. Here is a link to the playlist I am adding to: • Online Learning During...
This video shows how I throw and trim a simple little salt cellar pot with a gallery and domed lid. I trimmed the knob of the lid from the excess clay I left when throwing the lid rather than attaching a knob. A gallery is a (usually) notched edge on the inner edge of the rim of a pot which allows a perfectly sized lid to snugly fit within.
This video was shot in January, but I am just getting it up now! I thought it would be a good distraction video. Note the contact information below for ordering. I have used it multiple times and I LOVE it! It is compact, sturdy, and I have found no issues whatsoever! I would highly recommend.
The contact information for ordering the bat system is:
email is ontariostpottery@gmail.com. The system comes with 1 Master bat and six, six inch inserts. Our price for the bat system is $80 and each additional insert is $3.50. Plus freight which so far everyone I have sent has been around $30. This is all Canadian dollar pricing

I am a public high school ceramics teacher at William Mason High School in Mason, Ohio. (Mason is currently the largest high school in Ohio!) As a potter, I have been working in clay for over 30 years, and I have been teaching for over 28 years, the past 20 have been specifically teaching high school ceramics. I love what I do! I have my own studio in my home basement, where I work on my personal pottery for my Etsy site; www.etsy.com/shop/KaransPotsA...
I started my KZbin channel a few years ago, to make videos to help my students if they are absent and miss a demo, or if they would like to explore more advanced techniques independently. I have been amazed to reach such a wider audience than my own students!
Please subscribe to my channel if you would like to receive channel updates, or would like to learn more about clay and studio processes!

Thank you Karen for your excellent videos. I will recommend them to my class at Kirkcaldy Art Club in Scotland. Your experience from years of teaching shows in how you explain the method at each stage of a project. So well thought through. Thanks again. Janice

Nice. I’m a novice at the wheel, but I really need a sugar and creamer, so I’m going to give that a try. (PS - Queen City Clay has started doing home deliveries with a nominal delivery fee. I just got some BMix5 delivered yesterday.) 😊

Thanks for the video and the shout out. By the way, I use a similar bat system made by Studio Pro ( used to be wonder bat). The master bat has rubber grommets that prevent the hole for the bat pin from getting stretched out or misshapen. Looks like your Canadian version does not have that feature. I've used my system for 5+ years and have never had a problem, really like the bats.

Studio pro! Good to know- I was confused about the lack of information I could find regarding Wonderbat! I didn’t realize they had changed! I have wonderbats at school with my Shimpo tabletop wheels- and those are lovely! (Round ones- not the inserts!) I do love this system! I’ll look into studio Pro- thanks!! :)

Adorable little pot. Can you please explain again when you would and wouldn't use clay with grog. Thanks.
@KaransPotsAndGlass
@KaransPotsAndGlass 4 жыл бұрын
I often use grogged clay when I am working larger, or may be concerned about warping. The bmix I use, I love the feel of it without grog, it throws beautifully, but when I throw big platters it isn't as dependably stable for me during high firing. So, I use bmix both with and without. I put all my reclaim together, so the reclaim has grog in it! Oh, and if i want to carve or sgraffito, without grog makes it easier for cleaning! I hope that helps!

♥ ♥ ♥ Have you ever soaked cotton string or cotton cloth in slip to use for decorating pots? I have done that and cotton yarn makes magnificent vines and trees. I so miss studio time.

What type of pottery wheel do use, do you have a peddle, and what type of motor does it use.
@KaransPotsAndGlass
@KaransPotsAndGlass 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dianna- my favorite wheel is my Skutt Classic. skutt.com/products-page/potters-wheels/classic/ You can see it in my new wheel series I started this summer. kzbin.info/aero/PLj0pNzEmvM_qbxpokQPWmnsAHarrSKSgS I like to stand at it, and it does have a pedal. I also have a Pacifica 400 which is a lovely affordable wheel with a reversing switch, (also with pedal) and I have an older artista tabletop wheel by CI which only uses a dial control- although they make them with wheels. At school we use Pacifica 400's, Brent C's and I have additional tabletop wheels - Shimpo Aspires- when I have more kids in a class than can fit on my 13 wheels at once.
