Today I go over some of the results from the upgraded Mishimoto Performance Radiator. As many of you know I had the standard Mishimoto radiator for the 6.0 Powerstroke, and it did not perform well while towing. The main reason to have a 6.0 Powerstroke is for the amazing towing performance. So I called the guys up at Mishimoto and told them about my problem. They sent me out the Mishimoto 6.0 Powerstroke performance radiator for our 6.0 Powerstroke build. Their line of all aluminum radiators have been out for a long time now. They have gone through a few revisions. Now that we have the latest all aluminum radiator from Mishimoto lets get to the review! Mishimoto has a lot of great parts and so far this upgraded radiator is performing just like Mishimoto said it would. As long as the Performance radiator continues to cool better than the previous one we will be keeping it on the truck. I must say that Mishimoto stood by their product and made this right with me. They sent me the Mishimoto performance radiator for free. So check out Mishimoto, because they are why we are doing the Mishimoto performance radiator review for out 6.0 powerstroke!! Lets see how this all aluminum radiator stacks up against the cheaper all aluminum radiator from Mishimoto! The stock 6.0 powerstroke radiator actually performs great. Now that we have our 6.0 powerstroke radiator upgrade lets see if we can't get just a little more performance out of it.

I’m glad Mishimoto stood by their product! As you know, a company is only as good as the the “after sale” customer service. The preformance model is the upgrade I want to do. My oil & coolant temperature numbers at the engine operating temperature of about 400F runs the coolant @ 195F & oil @ 178F. Which I feel are good now. The coolant was flushed about 20K miles ago & I run Motorcraft Gold with a Mishimoto degas cap. Thanks for the update!

Why is everyone seeing the high coolant temps my 6.0 coolant temps dont ever hit 200 . Highest I've seen is 198 and that's in the texas summer heat of 100+ degrees and speeds of 80mph. 194 and 196 are my average , Stock radiator and stock thermostat. Now my oil temps get to 215 to 220

@@six0bros yes it was. I have the BPD oil cooler relocation system. Tore the truck down this weekend and changed the radiator to the MM radiator , flushed the block and heater core and then reverse flushed the oil cooler. The trash that came out of the oil cooler was awful. Then did a four hour drive in 100+ Texas heat and oil didnt get over 205 but now my coolant did hit 202 with the new radiator. 200 was average for the coolant I didnt know they made two different versions of that radiator at the time.

I did a video comparing the 2. I did call mishimoto because they told me that the only difference would be in transmission temp and that wasn't my experience. So they sent the larger core out to me and it seemed to be comparable to stock.

I want to know how it performs with a 30 foot Toy Hauler fully loaded pulling the I 80 from Sacramento to Reno, or the 58 from Bakersfield to Mojave. You want to test something, those are the two pulls I want to see. I live in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and I’m usually pulling my tractor (14000 pounds with trailer) in the California heat. I have an 05 Ram with the 5.9 Cummins. I’m looking at these radiators, and I need to know HOW MUCH BETTER they cool over OEM. $250.00 vs $800.00. Is this just “snake oil”? WHO HAS THE TRUE NUMBERS?
@six0bros
@six0bros 2 жыл бұрын
Well for me it is not possible for me to go test there. I live in the east coast and as a full time nurse and part time student it is not feasible for me to do so. Now what I can tell you is I currently do not feel there is a true upgraded radiator that out performs the factory unit. I believe in my experience mishimoto is not worth the coast. Mishimotos cheaper unit is a great way to have less efficient at cooling. Now my camper is about 13k all loaded up so that is at least a similar load but I cannot test those grades. If the factory one is 300 and the mishimoto is 800 i would go factory all day. Now if mishimoto was 800 and oem was 900 I would go with mishimoto. At extended testing the performance radiator from mishimoto performance simular to factory.
@disgruntledconservativevet1798
@disgruntledconservativevet1798 2 жыл бұрын
I get it. For us out west, we are pulling 6% (or more) grades at 110 degrees ambient temp. We work our trucks hard, and trying to figure out what is best. I put a Mishimoto transmission cooler in, and I have seen a HUGE difference. That is an upgrade worth the money. I’m hoping their radiators will provide the same results. I put an AFE inter cooler in my truck, and really haven’t seen any difference that would give a good enough reason to spend that kind of money. I learned my lesson, and now doing research. I don’t want to spend money a lot of money on something that’s no better than the OEM.
@six0bros
@six0bros 2 жыл бұрын
The Trans cooler I have only heard good things about. Their radiator truthfully in my experience doesn't do any better than a properly functioning oem. Now I have heard of people having crap in their radiators who rave about mishimoto but if your radiator is doing well I do not think it is worth the money over an oem. I do not belive they have made any changes since I got my performance radiator. I can without a shadow of a doubt tell you thr cheap mishimoto radiator is garbage. Towing my camper on a relatively flat tow I had notably higher coolant and transmission Temps

@@disgruntledconservativevet1798 oem is most likely a 2 row and mishimoto is 3, ive found one at summit racing with a 4 row. but the one thing i dont like with mishimoto is they dont put the tube specs. for example a 2 row with a 1 inch tubing will cool better than a 3 row 5/8 inch tube.

Your thermostat should dictate the operating temp. A radiator capabilities are best demonstrated in higher altitudes and extreme heat and towing.
@six0bros
@six0bros 2 жыл бұрын
So yes the thermostat does determine it however it is only part of the equation. When towing heavy or running the truck hard, the radiator can be the weak link or limiting factor to how well the colling system performs. I run factory thermostats which run around 185-190. So after that point you're really testing if the radiator can keep up with what we're asking of the truck

Diesels perform way better under extreme heat conditions? Why would u want to run cooler? Tbh, having a “performance” radiator won’t do much compared to having “hotter” thermostats. You will defintly want to run a different coolant such as Evans or Cat coolant.
@six0bros
@six0bros 4 жыл бұрын
Define extreme heat? At what temp. I'm not trying to get it below operating temp while I'm working it. Just trying to keep temps down in general. I would like to keep them down around like 200. However the cheap mishimoto rad wasn't able to do that while towing
@funnydubby6401
@funnydubby6401 4 жыл бұрын
6.0 Bros well ever heard of Evans cooling, big rigs use that along with different thermostats, they can run their engines upwards of 250 degrees preferably and obviously the Evans stuff doesn’t boil over because it’s boil temperature is around 375 degrees compared to waters 212. Just do some research I remember a trucker telling me about it and low and behold I got myself some modified thermostats for my 6.4 and I run around 250 degrees and run Evans coolant through my system and I can defiantly feel a lot more power. No dyno in my area but I do a lot of truck pulls and there was a huge difference.
