Thanks for sharing! Miso is my favorite ingredient and flavor to use. I often do not make miso soup because it dirties the kitchen. This miso bowl meal prep idea will be so helpful!! Miwa i have a question! Sometimes you keep dashi packets whole and then remove the packet during cooking (for example at the beginning of your "3 miso soup recipes" video). In this video you opened the packet and stirred in the seasonings. How do you decide whether to open the dashi packet or not? Thank you, i love your channel and i'm learning so much!
@MiwasJapaneseCooking
@MiwasJapaneseCooking 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your comment !! I don't open the packet for most of the time since it's pretty fishy and potent! But when I make miso ball or fried rice to season it, I open the package. Basic rule is keeping it closed and discard ! Sorry to make you confused!

Question: The preserved plum on the rice - which plum is better? I've seen x3 different types on the website for the store I will use: whole sugar plum which looks like the one you have here, half sugar plum and whole winter plum. All are preserved - do you rehydrate them before use?
@MiwasJapaneseCooking
@MiwasJapaneseCooking 3 жыл бұрын
It's very much on your preference! but usually, I have two kinds which are whole sugar plum and while winter plum. while winter plum is very tart and salty (in general). the sugar plum is more mild so great to start with this kind!

you can just cut dry tofu into very small pieces then mix into the miso just like how I do in the video. you don't have to rehydrate or cook in advance. just remember that the dry tofu will expand more than double when it's rehydrated. ^^ thank you for your kind words!!

Sorry I'm late with my reply; yesterday we were at my parents for their anniversary :) I love these miso dama. I've even seen books with ideas. I've put them on my wishlist but never ordered them hahaha I usually have to make miso soup for just myself. My husband doesn't like the taste of miso and my daughter it's always a guess if she'll eat it. Perhaps she'll eat the corn one. But I love miso, I really should try to make it more for myself. I usually add whatever I have left in the refrigerator. I really love kabocha, spinach, tofu or konnyaku. If I add daikon I always just heat the daikon through so it's warm but still crunchy. Did your chldren eat the one with chocolate or did they decide at mealtime it wasn't the best flavour afterall? hahaha Kiri boshi daikon is not easy to get here, but it's so easy to make it yourself so I usually do that. I've been making batches all winter because it dries do quickly then :D I love mochi, but it's hard te get here (especially since the pandamic started and with brexit; I got a lot of things from the UK). I've seen videos to make it yourself so perhaps I'll try that someday.

Thank you very much for your question Jill! I have a lot to tell! haha when I make miso soup, usually I need some carbs along with side dish with veggies and fish. so it helps me to make balanced meal because just miso soup is not filling enough for me. If I make pasta, for example, pasta is hearty and satisfying enough. I don't feel like having anything additional.😆 I'm not saying pasta is not good enough nutritionally but it's just how it works for me. 😅 Also, miso soup is very versatile. I can change up the ingredients. I never get tired of it! I hope this made sense!
