N.W.A. Why do “barriers” have to be about weight only though, she rocked her natural haircut and in media we don’t see dark skin women being represented like that. And to show that it was a barrier for a long time, some states are now (this year) only passing bills to ban hair discrimination in the workplace , like really in 2019?! I agree there’s still a long way to go but come on... she did something let’s celebrate her

@@bnwo Are you blind? She has just won Miss Universe with her natural African 4C hair. She broke barriers. Most black girls wouldn't dare enter a beauty pageant without a weave on.
@bnwo4 жыл бұрын
@@DJ_Ndiks This meaningless award isn't nearly as paradigm shifting as you think. These white organizations will hand out awards just as long as you complain long enough. They do it for music and movies too. What do you think, you going to go to the club and when your light skinned friend with long natural hair gets hit you, you're going to interrupt and say, "excuse me, didn't you see who won Miss Universe?" No. This is nothing more than pandering as it's worst. You can celebrate this all you want, but the reality is you're not going to change what people are attracted to be of some award show that no one watches, especially men.

You know, in some ways, we all have to thank Lupita Nyong'o for this (and hopefully, more than a) recent surge of dark skinned natural haired black women presented in all forms of major media, because, in some part, it was her look in the feature films she was in within the past few years that helped to propel this recent surge. It 's almost like the world collective said, "Hey..! These African and Afro-"whatever nationality" women are truly stunningly beautiful, super intelligent and display so much class! How have we not been seeing this all of this centuries?". The thing is, they were always here.

She spoke so well on her opening speech, and she answered well in the Top 5 and Top 3 Q&A and then gave a hearfelt closing remark. If anything her being well spoken is definitely what cement her win since Miss Universe is looking for a spokeperson who will represent them in events and charities for 1 year. She will definitely do a great job.

I love the way she talks there is something in her accent
@lwazibhengu12114 жыл бұрын
Yep. That's the true South African accent, not the one they portray in American movies. There is that misconception in the world that all Africans speak the same. Mostly when actors assume what they call 'an African accent', they usually use some form of Nigerian accent. Even that is wrong because not all Nigerians speak with the same accent. Moreover, people confuse the African Continent with its African Countries. For example, Africa is treated as a country instead of a continent. When you say you're from South Africa they will only think of Africa but South Africa is only a country in Africa not the other way round. South Africa has 11 official languages and you get a variety of English accents between these languages. However, the most common English accent in South Africa is this one that you hear spoken by Miss Universe: Zozibini. Another misconception that there is extreme poverty in all africa. A lot of Africa countries like South Africa, are well developed and have cities and constructions that compare to or surpass some of the best cities in the world.

My comment was basic “I hope to see an oriental beauty winning miss universe” and theres no point for you to be offended.

I get what you mean the most recent Filipina Miss Universes (2015, 2018) had European fathers also Asians can be browned skinned too especially in South and Southeast Asia. A dark skinned Indian woman was Miss America in 2014 and half black woman was Miss Japan 2015 maybe attitudes about skin color in Asia can change even in Africa and Latin America where lighter skin is still more preferred.
