On the flip side for anyone worried about the rejection, I was close friends with my friend/crush for about 6 years before I told her how I felt (mostly because I was still figuring things out) and when I finally did, she said something along the lines of "I'm flattered but I don't see it" and we continued being friends like normal. I think our situation worked out because she knew I would respect her boundaries and I didn't put her on a pedestal, so it wasn't like she broke my heart or I was fawning over her after confession. I just wanted to put it out there, she didn't pick it up, so I threw it somewhere else and we kept seeing each other on a friendly basis (it's been about 15 years since then) and we're still very close. At the time of confession I had thought all women had some interest in other women (and maybe they do but I just wasn't her type 😅) so she helped me accept straight women on that far end of the spectrum who aren't even interested in experimenting.

@@radiationshepherd As much as I understand that, it's the reason people are scared to tell their crushes. They value the friendship more than anything else and that's why it takes them a long time. Usually there's no "ulterior motive" but feelings developed through spending time with the person. Most people can get over it and continue the friendship :)
@mariebourgot49493 жыл бұрын
@@butterbeer4582 I agree and disagree in the same time. It really depends on the person, and yes, people can be sexually and/orromanticallyattraced from the begining of a relationship and don't tell the other and the latter jus think it's friendship. Not automatically make it an "ulterior motive" though, but can definitively still change the relationship, or even end it, if the person "being persued" know that the other whish for more/wasn't actually satisfyed/fulfilled with their current relatonship actually.
@missipenix3 жыл бұрын
To the person who isn't telling their bestie: No unspoken sexual tension. I've watched friendships detonate because one party had feelings for the other and never said anything until things between them had gotten *so* bad, with one person having no idea what they'd done to make the other so mad at them. Just tell your friend that you've caught feelings, have no expectations, and then she'll have a point of reference if you need to back up for a minute sometimes to work out jealousy or whatever. Maybe a relationship will come or maybe it won't, but that person is your bestie for a reason; you know you can talk to them about anything, so talk to them about this, too.

I just pass on advice that I was given: conflicts are usually about what is _not_ being said. Too often, we see an unresolved conflict in life, and we have the temptation to think that some action caused the conflict- someone said something, someone did something, etc. More often than not, I've found, conflicts are about un-expressed feelings. The conflict keeps going, and cannot resolve because one or two people have left important things un-said to one another. They don't think they can be honest, or they don't think it's worth risking being honest. Once people say what they are actuality feeling, and get real, a lot of times that's all you need to release the tension and resolve the conflict.

Hi Alayna Joy! 😊 I'm sure you get tons of comments and messages everyday, but I felt compelled to send you a message of gratitude for the gift you have given me through your KZbin channel. I'm not sure what grace of luck caused me to stumble onto your channel, I think I had been watching videos of lesbian comedian Cameron Esposito and eventually your content showed up in Recommendations. But you are the first queer content creator I found. And once there I consumed nearly every single video you made because your story spoke to me so clearly (and the silly videos gave me some much needed laughs). I'm a cis woman who has been in hetero relationships my whole life (I'm 50 now). I've been interested in being with women romantically or sexually since ending a 9 year relationship in my late 20s (also engaged), but a combo of comp het and controlling partners meant I was never able to explore that side of me. Aside for a disastrous brief 1-month attempt last year, I haven't dated anyone for the past 8 years -- my last relationship was so abusive it utterly destroyed every aspect of my life, and it's taken me this long to try to rebuild it and myself. That time has been very lonely, but I also knew I could not date men anymore. And until our society has gender equality, I can't see me ever dating men again. I'm done with the sexism, the rigid gender roles, the entitlement, the fragile egos, the narcissism, the sexual hangups and shame around sex, and sex that's penis-focused instead of female-focused that all come with dating men -- even the seemingly "progressive" men.* (Which is not to say I hate men by any means. I just don't want to waste any more of my life with them.) And I still have so much sexual trauma I can't even think of a penis without feeling turned off or triggered. I left the abuse 9 years ago, and over the past 2 years I've been thinking about shifting to dating women more and more. After watching your channel and listening to your stories I realized that this shift was not simply out of practicality. I remembered back to all the times over the past 2 decades when I genuinely desired to connect with women, no matter what my hetero relationships were like (good or bad). And I had suppressed that important side of myself because it was not possible in my last relationship (7.5 years of my life sucked away and as I mentioned, abusive). My last partner was adamant that he would not allow me to have relationships with women, even before we became a committed couple, and told me I had to choose between him and exploring that part of myself (I made the wrong choice). Watching you talk about ending your engagement and coming out as lesbian was heartbreaking and I so admired your strength to not only tell that story and sit with those feelings of grief, but also your generosity in sharing such private feelings with the KZbin public. Listening to you parse your feelings about your bi-sexuality and lesbianism was instrumental in helping me understand my own. And once I acknowledged I was queer... I felt lighter, like a weight was lifted. I felt *~happy~. I remember closing one of your videos after calling it a night on the "gay research" -- lol -- and realized the idea of being queer just felt ~good.~* And once I came to those realizations and embraced that aspect of myself, I recognized that I *do* have a future, that I don't have to spend the rest of my life alone. (Ignoring the obvious challenges of attempting to date and enter the queer world at my age, lol). I'm still not sure if I identify as bi-sexual or lesbian because thanks to the pandemic I haven't had an opportunity to even try to be with a woman. But I'm ok with that. The right label will come to me in time. The important thing is I have been able to look at my full self. I haven't come out to anyone yet (even though my closest friend is bi), I'm not quite ready, but you were a hugely important part of me coming out to myself. Coming out also led me to understand that if I want companionship despite my chronic illnesses (caused by abuse), then I need to start taking better care of myself so that I can be accessible. So it's helping me with healthier self care as well. Thanks again for all you do, all your effort, your kindness, your humor, your openness, your boldness, your beautiful soul. I'm eternally grateful. *Edit to clarify: Upon second reading of my comment I realized it may come across as man bashing to some people, which is not at all my intent. Our society does cis boys and men a disservice by instilling these qualities as they are raised. So much so that even progressive cis men most often grow up with the unconscious traits and gender biases I mentioned. This in turn does a great disservice to cis women who date cis men, particularly feminist, independent, out spoken, accomplished women with sexual agency. I hope this changes with the youngest generations. Peace. 🙏 (P.S. - I was new to KZbin when I found your channel and didn't understand the whole Like 👍 thing and how it helps creators, and frequently forgot to hit the button. So I just went through and did a sweeping Likes on your vids for karma.)

Beautiful comment! I'm a young person and it's nice to see 'older' people share their feelings and vulnerabilities so openly. I am confused with my sexuality as well, but i think all of these labels don't really matter in the end. I think its okay to not know and just sit with it, however I'm sure you've had that time to reflect a lot already! I wish you the best of luck with everything! :))

As a lesbian who’s in love with her bisexual best friend, I did in fact tell her recently. We are waiting a little to discuss further since she just got out of a relationship, but she may end up being my first girlfriend.... so anyways, I would recommend telling your best friend if your in love with them...

I know these videos are very entertaining and often funny, but you are so so right that they are medicinal as well. Sharing your fears, the things you locked away in your brain because you were afraid no one would understand... and then finding out other people get it? That's HUGE. That's healing. That's reassurance everyone needs.

Hi! Just wanted to let you know how appreciative I am of your videos. You helped me come out to my boyfriend of almost 10 years that I’m a lesbian.. it was something that I always suppressed and had some idea that I was but always that I was bi and just didn’t recognize that I genuinely was gay… don’t know how this goes I love him so much he’s truly my best friend only time can really tell where this goes now but thank you for your videos you really are helping so much ❣️

I can recommend confessing feelings too - either they are returning (HOPEFULLY, that is obviously the best outcome!), but even if they don't like you the same way back, it will give you a lot of peace, knowing you have said it. It's a lot easier to move on and stop being stuck in that hopeless love. I have tried both getting it returned and when it wasn't. Both scenarios, I ended up being very happy that I got it off my chest :)

You fell victim to the British Sun Psych! I was born here and am highly melanated. It never ceases to amaze me how I always have my factor 50, hat and cover up and my melanin challenged compatriots seem to think basic sun safety doesn't apply to them. And that is when the English sun, that you think is weak and feeble, will kick your unprotected ass down the stairs. Sheesh people, get it together - if I can you can!!

Ok i have a couple things: First, I just wanted to let you know that you made me realize Im omnisexual lol. I knew I like guys and had also been attracted to genderfluid and nonbinary people too. Then saw your videos and was like “damn, I get what you’re talking about”. So now I’m both queer in my sexuality and gender Second, I love how quirky and excepting you are. Your videos are so fun and you never really judge anyone and it feels so nice for someone like me who thinks the same way but the other people in my life kinda don’t (at least not to the extent that you do). Did that make any sense? Idk but imma go with it Anyway - keep doing you!

These videos always make me feel so vanilla lol. My only gay secret is I've been in an on and off relationship with my also on and off best friend for about 3 years. It's been messy and all over the place. Last year we dated for a few months then had an ugly breakup and went on to not speak for 9 months but reunited at our high school graduation and have agreed to be best friends again and nothing more. Been that way for 8 months now.
