what do you think are the differences in growing up gay as a millennial vs gen z?
@isabel116
@isabel116 Ай бұрын
for gen z: being gay is chill, people are more accepting, men are more secure in showing their feminine sides. for millennials: alot of homophobic undertones in media and culture that made it harder to accept yourself in general. glad it's changed!
@Raddiebaddie
@Raddiebaddie Ай бұрын
As a millennial “that’s so gay” was used as an insult. It seems to be used less now, used in an ironic way by gay people to reclaim, or when used insultingly is less acceptable to do. Millennials grew up with almost no representation. It started to slowly be available as young adults but Gen z has many shows and movies to choose from and podcast 😉 which means millennials have it now too just at an older age. The lgbtq issue that millennials grew up during was gay marriage and George W Bush trying to put it in the constitution that gay marriage would never be legalized. Gen Z is growing up with heightened transphobic laws and book bans (in the U.S.). Gen Z also has grown up with more legal protections in a lot of states as they enter the workforce whereas millennials had to watch famous gay people get fired publicly and lose their jobs for that.
@shorty1103
@shorty1103 Ай бұрын
@@isabel116 things have not changed 😂 people are still quiet about their sexuality, homophobic undertones within the media and tv/online personalities still exist, and the world is still overly homophobic and transphobic as it's ever been. GenZ is just delusional about it. That's the difference bwtn several generations.

As someone born in 1967 my hope is that things just keep improving for all LGBTQ+ people. Listening to these podcasts from day one has only reenforced my belief that despite recent setbacks we are still heading in a good direction. People like Soph who have grown up on show in a way my generation could never have imagined and still managing to be that good influence we all need, gives me hope. x I'm in the UK so wonderful podcasts like these give me an insight into an America that is that little bit more hopeful than the media normally feeds us. There is yes a lot of horrendous stuff going on, as a trans woman I am always aware of it.

I was trying to figure out if it's like, ghost because you only want to date people with a similar level of income? Or because you need people to prioritize a fancier phone over other ways of managing money? Or is it a stereotype about the type of people who use Androids? (I know some incredibly broke people with iPhones and affluent people with Androids so I don't think it's really reflective of income or ability to manage finances)

Funny thing is for me it wasn't TikTok but an online chat bot RPG site called Character AI, I suspected I might be a lesbian for awhile, but when I roleplayed in "girl love" scenarios, it felt right. It felt more natural than the hetero RPs, with straight boyfriend-girlfriend ones, I felt as though I were playing a character that wasn't me, but woman love woman RPs felt natural. If that isn't the most Gen Z way to realize one's sexual orientation, haha. It's not just romantic stuff though, there's also action, adventure, horror (unfortunately half the time the NSFW-filter blocks violence so you're better off doing romantic RPs (just be sure to go heavy on the euphemisms to not get the filter). This is the first I've heard of Soph, btw, she seems awesome

what's the thing against Androids I don't get it, I hate iphones, I finally tried one after all these years of people telling me how "amazing iphones are". Wanted to return it within 1 day, kept it for the full 2 weeks, gave people who asked me what I didn't like it massive detailed lists, one of the main things is I just couldn't do as much with the assistant when driving. Also the lack of customization, I currently have a custom launcher to minimize the visual clutter, can't do that on iphone.

I love her, she's a good representation for Gen Z to be your guest and one of the only younger lesbians that I follow on social media. I just don't understand the Android hate? I have an Android that costs more than the newest iPhone, and an iPhone for work. Android is by far more superior, it works seamlessly with any of my ecosystems for work & play, highly customizable, has more useful apps (the majority of which is free), and has more varieties. With my iPhone I needed to set up a lot of things just to get it to work with my system, it's just such a hassle, and not highly customizable. The only thing on paper that iPhone does better is probably the CPU and it's not even noticeable. I know it's a game, but out of all red flags she'd ghost people with certain phone really Sorry for ranting about unimportant things, I'm on my period. That being said, I still love her and wish her the best!

Given that this is Pride month, it would be really nice if you gave some recognition to the Gays and Lesbians that paved the way for the younger generations. Just a few decades ago the LGBT community members could risk being arrested and jailed for expressing themselves. Do the young people today have any idea what there forebearers endured so your experience would be easier? Gays back then risked losing their children, their jobs, their families if they were outed. I'm so glad things are different today, but please don't forget those who suffered and demanded justice and freedom so your lives would be smoother today.
