I received this memorandum from Lieutenant Steve Drackert, and I wanted to share this exceptional act of caring and compassion with our community. I believe that the training that this agency has been receiving from the Autism Society of Tidewater, combined with Deputy Sheriff Kory Dodd's obvious willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty, is yet another outstanding example of the character of the men and women of the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office. Outstanding work, Deputy Sheriff Dodd!
"While performing a Body Worn Camera review for Deputy Sheriff Kory Dodd, I randomly selected a video where he responded to a call for service for a report of a child wandering down Merrimac Trail. Deputy Sheriff Dodd located the juvenile, deduced that he had special needs, and did a great job establishing rapport and gaining the child's trust. The child did not know his address, but we learned the child was a missing child from the City of Williamsburg. The child had left his home to look for Pokemon cards. Deputy Sheriff Dodd returned the child to his family. Deputy Sheriff Dodd then purchased some Pokemon cards, which he later delivered to the child and his family. This is just one example of Deputy Sheriff Dodd going above and beyond! Great job!"
