An excellent video Jon showing how the side bend works in the golf swing! This is an excellent way to generate more power in the swing by getting the right shoulder and side involved in the swing. Although it's still a work in progress, this is something I have been working on. Well Done Jon! Keep up the good work!!

Absolutely, trail side bend into impact to allow the player to extend the trail arm through impact rather than early in the downswing.

Major fault for me (post multiple rib fractures). Results in steep swings that can slice. Windmill exercise working on it. Thanks for the reminder.

Hi Jon, love this thank you Am I correct in saying the side bend and rotation is combined with a bent left elbow? If so, do you have a video that covers these moves?

Apologies for the delay Brian. Not knowing whether your right or left handed makes it tougher. The trail elbow should be flexed at impact, full extension just post impact. The lead arm ideally straight all the way. Is that what you mean?

Hi Chris, when I make this move I tend to leave the fact open. Do you think that's connected or a mistake I'm making elsewhere? When I try to catch up with my hands closing the face into impact, sometimes I get it right, other times I'm headed left.

I’m Jon, not Chris 😂 apologies for the delay. The open face is often the opposite, standing up / losing posture. This move should help close the face so I would suggest somewhere else. Check wrist angles 👍🏻

Ive beenn working on tbis recently but it causes a hook. I think in my head right shoulder up at top of backswing but still swing with my hands and i can tben hit it straight... Any udeas why

It wouldn’t on its own cause a hook so there’s something else happening. If strike okay, and ball starting left, look at the face. If starting on or right and then hooking, the path is too much into out!

@@TruGolfAcademy its the latter definitely. Ive has a lesson and nothing seemed to stop me... Its seem like when im going through impact i swing to inwards closing the face... Its like i swing in to in. My ball start either straight or riight but always ends up left with a hook

Good drill. But you never explained why the side bend is important. Pros do this … so it must be important for solid impact - but I’d like to understand why it leads to better impact. Thanks

Hi Chris, it means you can rotate around your spine angle, trail shoulder down and forwards, lead shoulder, up and back. Golfers tend to struggle with contact when they early extend in the downswing (hips move forwards, spine straightens) it also helps the body get more open into impact! Cheers
