From 2011 to early 2016 Dale Earnhardt, Jr. had a late career resurgence. In 2015 he had the most consistent season of his career. But ultimately he fell short. He is the story of how. The story of Dale Jr.’s 2015 missing ring.

Never forget that Kevin Harvick blatantly wrecked the back half of the field at Talladega on that 2nd GWC restart to manipulate the finish of that race so he could stay in the chase.

Exactly, he did it to advance to the next round basically cheating & doing it on purpose. NASCAR screwed Dale & lost really the respect for a while because of that, they let Kyle Busch get into the playoffs (basically granting him to win if he got into the top 30) but they was just inconsistent & still are really.

I’m willing to bet any amount of money with certainty just as much now as I was that day in the stands that JR was NOT going to lose that race on that final restart no Matter what it took, but Harvick in typical fashion with his ass on his shoulders ruined that via manipulation and the fact they let him get away with it is still a black eye for NASCAR. Radio chatter and in car of him just taking a hard turn into the field with the motor blowing up was laughable.

As a lifetime dale jr. fan since 2003. There are 3 races in his career that haunt me. 1. The first race of the chase in 2013 at Chicago where he blew an engine. If he would’ve had a good finish in that race, he would’ve been right there in the points at the end in homestead that year. 2. The fall Kansas race 2014, I still remember the sinking feeling when that tire blew. If they could have won that race, maybe momentum would have been different 3. The fall Talladega race in 2015. I was so angry with the call even though I couldn’t do anything about it. They won the Phoenix race that could have put them in the final 4. Of course like you said though, anything could have happened in a rerun of history. Keep up the good work man. Love these missing rings vids

As an Earnhardt Jr fan since 1998, this one REALLY stung.. Like A LOT! Having it have been about 7 years later now, I can look back on that race & reflect on how insane that race was.. I'm not excusing the mistakes he made one bit but for just a moment, think about what Jr did in that race to dig himself out of a hole numerous times.. How many times did he drive up through the pack? Think about how many cars Jr passed that day.. THIS is the reason why the Earnhardt name is so illustrious when it comes to plate racing. The only 2 people we've ever seen drive like this in a pack race are Earnhardt Sr & Earnhardt Jr. The insanity of what he was able to do during this race blows my mind. As an Earnhardt fan, obviously I'm aware of how great they both were but this really solidifies just how amazing they were. Watching Jr at Daytona & Talladega those last couple years before 2016 concussions was truly a treat. He was back to his regular, dominating form like the early 8 Bud days. Even though he ultimately blew his chance at the championship, I look back on this race as an indicator to show how scary it would've been to race against him at plate tracks. I really think his performance that day gets overlooked bc of A) the mistakes made & B) he didn't win the race after having the drive of his life. Rightfully so.. I often go back & watch this race JUST to see him whooping the pack on multiple occasions. Passing cars without help, all by himself throughout the entire race. It just a shame that no one really talks about it. His mistakes were inexcusable but the driving he showcased was equally just as remarkable. Also... RIP Amelia.

Mike Joy has had to explain this repeatedly to his Twitter followers in wake of the Daytona 500 finish: the moment of caution is when the NASCAR official in the tower hits a button, which timestamps all video feeds around the track and illuminates the caution lights. The yellow lights around the track are just advisory lights.

Dale jr deserved that 2015 Talladega win. To this day I’m still flabbergasted at just how hard NASCAR tried to give that Talladega win to Jr. That finish has to be the most embarrassing example of NASCAR’s horrible inconsistency in officiating. ShotgunDolphin The whole second GWC attempt was a shit show, from Harvick wrecking the field, to Logano winning. I mean, NASCAR clearly had a second attempt to try and get JR the win. I was at the 500 in 2016. The car wasn't handling that great and I believe it just got away from him. He was so attached to Amelia that they put a new front clip on it for Dega and had the same wreck so possibly some unseen damage to the chassis or they just never got the handle back.

Missing Rings Bobby Allison 1981 & 82 By 1981 Bobby Allison had fully revived his career after a sluggish stint in the mid 1970’s. He partnered up with Ranier-Lundy, who experienced success with Buddy Baker in the previous two years. In a grueling battle with Darrell Waltrip down to the wire at Riverside, Allison would come up short for the fourth time in his career by just 53 points. 1981 stats: 5 wins, 21 top fives, 26 top tens, 2 poles, and an average finish of 6.8. In 1982, as he often did, Allison jumped ship and joined DiGard Racing. Once again, he battled against Waltrip, swapping the points lead and engaging in battles on the track. But in the end Allison fell short for the second straight year by 72 points. 1982 Stats: 8 wins, 14 top fives, 20 top tens, 1 pole, and an average finish of 9.3. In 1983, Allison finally bested Waltrip and earned that elusive championship. He would go on to be a consistent competitor until his career ending crash in the 1988 Miller High Life 500.
