The Louisiana high school graduate who disappeared after leaping off a cruise ship into dark waters off the Bahamas last week may have met a grisly fate in the “shark-infested” area, a local official said.
The waters off Athol Island, where 18-year-old Cameron Robbins was last seen swimming after jumping off the Blackbeard’s Revenge sunset cruise on May 24, are “really shark-infested,” Royal Bahamas Defense Force (RBDF) Commodore Raymond King told The Daily Mail on Tuesday.
A chaotic video taken moments after the jump overboard also shows the Baton Rouge native ignoring onlookers’ pleas for him to grab a buoy and swim in the opposite direction - prompting social media sleuths to suggest that a silvery reflection near the boat’s hull may have actually been a shark that scared him off.

To all the people saying “sharks don’t attack humans” sharks are in hunting mode at night. And this was in the open ocean, not on a beach. Plus this is in the Bahamas where there are literally sharks everywhere. Bull sharks and Tiger sharks are known to attack humans. There were probably multiple sharks underneath the water. I think this kid got dragged down by them.

Sadly you can see the sharks got him. You know that kid yelling bye bye is extremely disturbing - it’s like he’s mocking this kid just before he gets eaten by sharks. You can see the water is totally calm, and you can see he is treading water just fine, then you see a rather large silvery something or other swimming around and kinda toward him and the buoy; looks like shark went for the bouy at first then you see the kid get spooked and start swimming away from the buoy, still treading water just fine… but then suddenly and very quickly just sinks in the water… I’m no expert but doesn’t take more than a few second to realize when you jump into shark infested waters, at the time when sharks like to hunt, loud noises, and things “being thrown from the boat” (sharks perspective), it’s more than completely obvious what happened. But that disturbing creepy kid yelling bye-bye is just really bone chilling. Whose idea was it to put a bunch of kids unsupervised on a boat at night in literally shark infested waters?? This is creepier than a lot of the sicko movies out there. Very disturbing!

I wouldn’t say it’s obvious that it was a shark. Sharks don’t commonly attack. That’s just a common fear that people carry. Not to say it never happens but sharks aren’t what most people think they are. The current created by the boat likely pulled him down.

@TavaTava Tavi the problem is sharks are way more likely to attack seeing dusk and dawn. This looks like night sharks are active then. You can see the shark swimming by the buoy. You hear a girl screaming in terror in the background, I’m sure she saw the shark. @@bok.. Maybe you should watch the footage a few more times. Something comes up and grabs him and he screams twice at the 10-12 second mark of the original video before disappearing. He jumped off of the bow of a relatively small, pirate ship modeled, day cruiser in 15ft of water and the vessel was not underway. There is no reason for him to be lost at sea. At this point it is quite obvious that he was attacked by a shark which led to his death. Sad but true. Those waters are famously full of sharks and they hang out around large slow vessels looking for scraps and bait. Jumping into those waters at night and trying to run from one of those predators is all that it would take to trigger a bite.

Im sure this was such a violation that if Cameron survived he would've been kicked off the ship immediately. You see people will dare you to do something they more than likely wouldn't do themselves. Thats how you know there's danger involved. Cameron was old enough to no better than this. Condolences to his family.

After you see the shark swimming, the guy says bye-bye. It’s almost like he knew it was coming just like we did . Like you would assume that’s what would happen in the middle of the ocean in the middle of the night . Almost like predators live in the ocean and hunt at night when visibility is lowest.

If you jump into the water like that in the middle of the night, you’re done. Imagine watching your lifeline drive away as your floating there, knowing that the chances of living are slim to none…I can’t say for sure but I think I would rather have the sharks end it for me than bob around for two days and then die. I would want to live but I can’t imagine the feelings of helplessness, and nothingness. RIP buddy.

Judging by the screams from a female and by how the people on the boat are reacting as well as the obvious swirl on the surface and the kid in the water turning away it is a large (probably) shark. After the idiot saying bye, bye you can hear two screams in the distance, the second scream being cut short. RIP and condolences to this young mans family.

As a swimmer this kid punched with his right arm that wasn't a treading water stoke. He then changed direction and thinks about swimming away and repositioning himself not to stray to far. And leave our sight. Wish they would of stopped the boat and lowered a boat into the water maybe a light to help locate him. This is nuts. He definitely was punching off a 🦈 shark
