When the paternity of a missing young boy is placed into question, Stabler wonders if he really is the father of Kathy's child. Later, Stabler faces the possibility of losing not only his partner but also Kathy and the baby when she and Benson are in an accident.
Season 9, Episode 9, Paternity,
When a family's nanny is found gruesomely murdered, the obvious suspect is her Internet love interest, "Casanova" (guest star Steven Bauer). But it isn't long before Detectives Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) suspect the nanny's employers (guest stars Mark Valley and Anastasia Griffith) may have a few dark skeletons in their closet. The investigation leads to a case of murder and infidelity, which is further complicated when Stabler's own family suffers a tragedy that leaves Stabler's unborn child in serious danger.

@@heidibower2538 It was so cute to see Stabler looking after him with Kathy at their home. Tommy looked a bit like Dickie did at their start of the series, which must have reminded Kathy and Elliot of what it was like when Dickie was little. I love their whole exchange about not being able to keep him and how Elliot really not so secretly wants a boy. The car accident is such a tense moment in the episode. Definitely one of the most rewatchable ones. I still gasp at the car accident, even when I know it’s coming!

To me, the worst crime wasn't that she lied to her husband about Tommy being his. It was the fact that, as far as Tommy knew, her husband WAS his dad, and he clearly loved him - and her husband loved her son... And she was going to take all that away from both of them just to be with her f-toy. How selfish a mom could you be??

The cheating wife had always stuck out to me ever since I came across this episode. I think it's complete BS how the wife didn't actually know who her son's father was until the police intervened. I always believed she was going to abandon Tommy if he was the husband's child and focus on her "new life" with her boyfriend after divorce. It seemed she only wanted to take legal custody of Tommy after the divorce just because she knows now that her boyfriend is the father. It's really sad how she didn't think ahead that her cheating behavior was an immediate red flag to her child's well-being because she was setting a bad example to him. It must have been a nightmare for the child to lose his father and move in with a complete stranger who was never a part of his life. It was a BS move on the boyfriend to immediately get involved and assume Tommy would get along with him.😢

Ahh yes the usual. She loves her husband but he cares too much about his family and works too hard to provide for them so she decides instead of asking him to make time for her, you know communicating as couples should, instead she just sleeps with other men and betrays him. I love how rational this is... not. Disgusting. And of course their kid being traumatized seeing a murder and covered in blood before running, only to have the husband be immediately suspected, is how the poor guy finds this out, and then further that it's not his kid...

Wait where did the money come from? I thought the not real dad just wants his son to be with him not to be taken away by the mother who actually trying to depraved her soon to be ex husband his son.

Hearing her say the dad would be forced to pay his cheating wife alimony and child support that she and her baby daddy can live off of is beyond infuriating. On top of that, he won't be able to see his son when he wants either.🤬

He is still legally the father, thus the child support payments. However, the custody battle would be messy. Her constant cheating and the fact the kid didn't seem to know his mother's name could be used against her. However, as there was no blood relationship, he is a workaholic and custody laws a weighted towards women... the father would have a 20% chance of winning primary custody at best. Standard visitations would be agreed upon during the divorce process.

Something tells me she wasn't going to go through the trouble of a divorce unless she got caught. Why not keep your happy home life and get your strange salami on the side at the same time if you can? She's basically having her cake and eating it too.

That’s not even the ending of the episode. That’s the halfway point. The other half revolves around Benson helping to save Kathy and successfully saves her and Stabler’s baby. The baby later named Eliot Jr.

i don't remember if this is an older episode or not but if it is then in that time maybe but if nit then he wouldn't be paying her alimony because they had proof via this investigation that she was having an affair.

Does this mean with Jake in jail, Matt would have custody of Tommy? And god forbid access to money inherited from Leah to Tommy? What a mess. This is why there should be laws put in place to protect men from scheming women.
