In February 2019, 3 weeks before the Mission Across Wales, I took to the childhood den making arena of Sutton Park to test the notion that it was possible to travel a significant distance in a straight line.
Along the way there would be friendly dogs, golf courses, a railway track and lots of holly and gorse, all plotting against me to veer from the line on my brand new GPS System.

I really enjoy these pick a line and walk it things. I guess in the future you can try trickier and trickier lines or like specific coordinates to pass through that are important numbers like subscriber numbers birthdays and famous dates and then if you really want to get fancy you can try to write stuff like have the lines make a word or something.

It’s a well know spot with many towns around. Many people go for walks and too walk their dogs, its almost a big activity centre for locals .

So this is the origin story of GeoWizard's straight line missions? I really hit the fountain. Tom really goes out of his way to hold the line. The epic enmity with bracken and brambles is already taking shape. But alas golfers and golf carts were not to be the typical human element but the far more formidable farmers on quad-bikes. Even Bear Grylls makes a guest appearance ("and this is how you do it.")
