Also, Henry Cavill mentioned in an interview that when Tom broke his ankle, the doctors claimed that he wouldn't be able to (and shouldn't) put any significant weight on his foot and wouldn't be able to run for 6 months. 6 weeks after having been told that, Tom was back at it again. The score was fantastic and served the tension VERY well. My FAVORITE part of the movie was the build-up to the truck crash kidnapping sequence, when he used a drawn-out percussive version of the Mission Impossible theme to build tension & set up what to expect; which made me slip to the edge of my seat over the course of 2 minutes, despite looking at simple shots of people driving.

LawofCinema A lot of action in movies and shows misses out on including a real desperation to the scenes, something the Bourne trilogy and Winter Soldier did so well. Yeah, Back when I explained to someone why I was disappointed with the new Star Wars reboot (Episode 7), I summed it up to saying that it felt so hollow because of a lack of desperation. It was almost as if every major character was self-aware of their own plot immortality, only going as far as to _say_ "we're totally STAR WARS" rather than actually _be_ a part of it, to be engrained or in context with the story.

Dude 100% agree Chris, MI-6 was AWESOME! Technically perfect, editing pacing tension and setups, badass in camera action stunts, and the performances were great. I liked the story, the characters motivations going back to MI-3, I see it as the end of the 2nd MI-Trilogy, wrapping up the Ghost Rogue Syndicate storyline for Ethan Hunt and his team. Bottom line, keep yo heavy cgi laden comicbook movies, and those mediocre uber generic The Rock actioners, cuz The Last Action Hero really is Tom Cruise, his technical team that puts together the in camera spectacle is top notch, but he also makes sure we stay invested character wise. MI-Fallout was fantastic!

But when Ethan (who said he has no idea how to fly a helicopter) outmaneuvers a professional pilot, crashes into another helicopter, rolls down the side of a mountain in the cabin, falls off a cliff and gets lodged in a crevasse, jumps to another helicopter cabin, falls down another cliff and walks away unscathed, I just couldn't take that. Felt like a superhero movie, not a spy film.

The long take of Tom Cruise and Henry Cavill jumping out of the airplane had my jaw on the floor. I didn’t even realize that it was a long take until about 10 seconds in and said, “Wow. They didn’t even cut yet.” Mad respect to the crew and cast behind this film. It was amazing.

Trap Mobile I've seen every MI movie but I couldn't tell you what happened in any of them, or name a character outside of Ethan Hunt. All remember is a few action scenes but not what they were about. If action is there is and there isn't more to it then I don't think it's worth an A+. Edit: should have finished watching the review, Chris seemed to like the plot and characters too so puzzled why he wouldn't give it A+.

Scott Sullivan maybe he’s getting a little bit more strict. Maybe many of his past grades would get adjusted a grade level or two or a few by now. Movie opinions change the more you look at film, it happens to everyone, except maybe for people who stake their reputation on past opinions... then they have less incentive to acknowledge new feelings. KZbinrs miraculously change their opinions on art less than practically everyone else studying art in the world. I think this is why. Fans can’t handle things well here.

Much has been said about the direction and Cruise in this fantastic movie, and rightly so, but not enough praise on the incredible cinematography of Rob Hardy. The entire movie is just beautiful, shot after shot. Whether it's just Ethan sitting at a desk getting his assignment , to the incredible outdoor photography during the final act, it's a wonder to behold. Every bit as good as Blade Runner 2049, in my opinion.

Just got back from the Imax showing and I was blown away. Really incredible and I agree with everything you said in the review. The cinematography and stunts leveled up so much that I don't know where they could take it. If Ilsa had left w Ethan at the end it would be a fitting ending for the franchise. It's just so polished and seriously crafted that it's the epitome of the spy action genre. Anything after this might feel redundant or a step down bc this is so good.

I wouldn't exactly say it bored the crap out of me but I don't think it lives up to it's hype, I could see it being a captivating experience back in 1982 when CGI wasn't as advanced but even if you leave the "CGI is better now" element out of it the story had many inherent plot holes and flaws and Chris acknowledged them and still proceeded to give it an A+ rating simply because "it's a classic", I like his reviews but I really don't understand his bias when it comes to old movies that have turned into cult classics

+kamran kamil I think lately, they have been coming up with the fresher stories, though, while this one more just rehases a lot of plots. They do it well, but the Bond movies, having existed for much longer than M: I, definitely found more ways to stay fresh than this one, which could honestly use the same plot more and more and pretty much use that to its advantage. I am not necessarily speaking that much for Spectre, though.

Older Bond movies hasn't aged well and are pretty mediocre today (hey, I watch older movies and I don't have this issue with them, so the problem is not with me).
