Here's another Mission: Impossible opening montage. This one features episodes from Season 3 exclusively, including an exciting two-part boxing story with special guest star Sugar Ray Robinson.

This is by the far the BEST version of the opening theme I've found on youtube...even the top 40 version on Dot records is no where near as slick as this one...

Season Three contained some of the best ever episodes of Mission: Impossible (THE EXCHANGE, THE MIND OF STEFAN MIKLOS) and some incredible performances from Martin Landau and Barbara Bain. The show was extremely well shot and directed, and never insulted the intelligence of the audience. You were expected to concentrate and piece things together, unlike today where shows like CSI repeat everything a gazillion times and Captain Exposition is always at hand to spell out every plot point.

On this day in 1967 {December 31st} "Mission - Impossible" by Lalo Schifrin entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #41 and spent 14 weeks on the Top 100... He won the 1968 Grammy Award for 'Best Original Score - TV Show' {he has been nominated twenty-one times and has won four times}... Besides 'Mission - Impossible' he has composed the score for twelve other TV series and a 'unbelievable' 164 movies... Mr. Schifrin, born Boris Claudio Schifrin, will celebrate his 82nd birthday come next June 21st...

Just one of the best shows of its time. Can't think of many contemporary shows that were as good. Star Trek does come to mind. Just good tv, which is totally lacking, today!

Star Trek guest stars crossed over on Mission: Impossible very frequently. Both shows started in 1966 and were Desilu productions that were later acquired by Paramount. There were many actors who appeared in both shows.

The montage still here. Haven't seen it in quite some time. The Mission Impossible cut scene intro often fed into the scene of a quiet park or shop that Phelps would get the recording. It was a perfect setup for all the action and intrigue to come.

All my friends liked Man.From.Uncle. But I was IMF all the Way. They had the coolest theme song and the best secret agents on the planet. The show was more cerebral than most television of that day.They don’t make television like this anymore. Except quite possibly Blacklist.

Nobody in the original cast was happy with the "plot twist". Morris was the most vocal, however, when asked. Graves just wished he had done one scene, given the Cruise character some advise and left it at that. Martin Landau and Barbara Bain, when interviewed, thought it was a lousy idea otherwise they would have considered being in the film since they had been asked.

Season 3 also had Barbara Bain in a riveting episode where her character Cinnamon Carter is captured and brainwashed by sadistic madmen and is programming as an assassin to terminated and killed the head of the IMF-Jim Phelps!!! Barbara Bain had nerves of steel and beauty to boot in the time of bad guys and world conquest that is Mission:Impossible.

If I remember this episode (and it's been YEARS ago since I saw it), she is accidentaly captured because a pigeon flies into her room and sets off an alarm. The mission is abandoned and a new plan is put into place to save her. The trick a government into releasing a terroist to them, they trick him into revealing his secret infomation to them, and then exchange him for Cinnamon. During the exchange, they try to gun her and Mr. Phelps down, but Mr. Phelps ( continued below)..

the great thing about mission impossible is that where other spy shows of the 60's went campy after a while Mission Impossible stayed intelligent and dramatic. The fact that they were an ensemble of spies was also unique for the time. The one thing about the movies with Tom Cruise that I did not like is that TC is such a big star that he could not subordinate himself to let his movie be about the other IMF members like the show did.
@Ragnemalm15 жыл бұрын
I agree, and would like to add "Space: 1999" to the shows with superb openings (not to mention starring Landau and Bain).

Good point about the original M:I -- so much story was told without dialogue, which was very unusual and demanded a lot of attention. To show the orig series on cable with a modern commercial load, they could time-compress and pitch-correct it, a common practice, but you'd be better off watching the series on DVD... I think all 7 seasons have been released now, and the ones I've seen (seasons 1-4) are uncut and they look and sound great.

CBS tried to reboot M:I in the 80s and failed horribly. To do it again now would be another epic fail. Some things are best left alone. Those BS movies that Tom Cruise made shouldn't have seen the light of day...JMO

@CoolBlue717 жыл бұрын
Steven Hill-who died this past August at age 94 (and who played Adam Schiff on NBC's "Law & Order" from 1990-2000)-was on only with the first season of "Mission: Impossible." That was the 1966-67 season. (The CBS series lasted seven seasons, from 1966-1973.) This uploaded video is apparently from the series' third season (1968-69). Martin Landau, in fact, was not a regular in the opening credits of the first season. (Hill was billed first with that first season.) He was moved up with the second season (1967-68). This third season was the last for Landau and Barbara Bain (who won three consecutive Emmys, in all her seasons, for lead actress in a drama series).

John Erwin: they would do missions that no one else could do. Hence the name of the Group, IMF(Impossible Missions Force). They were super spies and basically they were ghosts. And if they were caught or killed no one would acknowledge their existence.
