“Rooms” with no windows normally can’t be classified as rooms, typically for fire safety reasons I believe! I think they can’t list them that way for legal purposes! But your home is STUNNING and I’m so happy for you!

That makes a lot of sense! I guess I’ve had shady landlords in the past because I’ve rented basement rooms with no windows to live in 🤣🤣

If you have space in the backyard (a tree, a pole, etc), there's the chance to put up a clothesline! Obviously you'd have to pull it in, and hang to dry inside when it rains, but on a clothesline you get the fresh smell of the outdoors, and the wind eliminates that stiff feeling! Congratulations on your move, the house looks so cool

it rains so often that I didn’t think of hanging outside but maybe we could time it strategically!

Those downstairs rooms are amazing! They look like old cellars, and landlords legally can’t rent rooms as bedrooms without exterior windows - it’s to try and prevent tenants having to pay for or live in bedrooms without good ventilation 😊

welcome to Edinburgh!! I am Scottish and live here, definitely the weather is not the best. Really recommend a SAD lamp for your desk, especially in Winter when it's just sooo dark. Summer makes up for it by being light so late. I am an autumnal girl and don't like too much heat but even I struggle with the lack of sun at times. Recommend getting out for full days when it's sunny ☀
@ameliahostkoetter86386 ай бұрын
Seriously get a clothes line and hang your stuff outside to dry. It’ll make your clothes not feel so stiff. Have to bring that stuff inside if it’s going to rain but on a good sunny day. Love the home so much! Also not considered rooms because they don’t have windows but the game room and movie space is great:)

When you hang dry they need some sort of movement. I put a rotating fan on them to give them a little movement and it helps. It’s not as soft as when you tumble dry but better. Also if you can hanging outside with the wind moving the clothes helps too.

It’s great to see your enthusiasm for old things that we take for granted. Looks gorgeous but I’m not sure the basement rooms will be useable in the winter with the cold we have here in Scotland. I think you will need a dryer, the heat pump dryers are good and don’t need vented so can be plugged in anywhere. I had a few months recently without a dryer and hated the crispy towels especially.

I’m not sure if you’re even going to see this Mary but I wanted to type it out anyway. I just came from your latest podcast episode and I felt like I needed to tell you how positively you and your content has changed my life. Yeah, I know how that sounds and I am not one to say stuff like this but honestly. I started going to therapy for the first time in my life, started journaling, started practicing self care consistently (and not just the consumeristic kind), I’m working out again for the first time in nearly 7 years, I take better care of my body and my nutrition, I am (trying) to romanticize my daily life and I truly think it’s because of you (maybe staring down 30 and having a bad back was a factor as well.) I’m pursuing my dreams again. And I didn’t think I’d ever do that. As a girl who grew up in a highly religious environment and felt she’d never escape it (mentally or physically) I’m finally feeling like I’m okay. You’re living a lot of younger me’s dreams and I’m so happy to see you doing it. In some way, it feels like I am living them. I could go on and on, but I think the readers get the point. This feels unnecessarily sappy (and this Aquarius is not a sappy girl) but after you mentioning the comment on your podcast, I thought maybe you’d like to hear this (if you see it of course.) Thank you, from another small town girl🫶🏻 You’ve done more good than you’ll ever know.

I live in an older (for the US) flat and I love seeing you and Matt’s new (old) space in Scotland. I absolutely see the vision and cannot wait to see how it all comes together! I also hang dry my clothes, and the tip is add in a half (US) cup of vinegar to the wash. It doesn’t smell but keeps things much softer. I do stand by tumble drying sheets and towels though, just faster, helps kill any bacteria, and makes everything nice and soft.

That antique cabinet in your kitchen is usually called a Hoosier in the USA. The dispenser you see on the inside was usually used to dispense flour and the enamel worktop was ideal for baking. Since this one is likely made in Scotland it may go by a different name.

you can always just move the clothes dryer outside if its warmer weather and it will dry quicker. i live in a smaller place so no room for a big appliance dryer, I have something called a 'dri buddi' and you put your clothes in it and it circulates warm air and drys the clothes. it can take a couple hours depending on how much you load in but its fab ive had one for 15+ years. clothes come out soft and also no risk of shrinking anything which i love!! your place looks lovely, can't wait to see it all finished up 💜
