Today we tackle a subject that was suggested by one of my viewers recently, how to know we are doing well with recovering orchids!
▼▼▼More info below!▼▼▼
The most common problem we will all encounter with orchids is root loss, due to a reason or another. The best sign we can get is the production of new roots, here is how I like to promote new root production • My ICU setup for rootl...
The new roots need to be protected and encouraged to grow, by offering proper moisture, care with handling and prevention of pests!
How to spot snails and slug signs • Slugs and snails on or...
Fertilization needs to be stopped white the new roots are forming and cannot absorb water. When they are formed and absorbing water, feeding should be done lightly and increased as the orchid grows and establishes.
With a bit of care any sick orchid, or rootless orchid, has a proper chance at being saved!

I lost several buds (not all) after I moved a cymbidium orchid to the kitchen counter, which was about 3 feet away from large fruit bowl. Thanks for the informative videos. They have been so helpful!

You’re instincts are dead on, Dani, I have a mini phal. that I’ve been nursing for months now and she shows some signs of recovery (starts a new leaf, a new root) but then she seems to stall for a month... then growth begins slowly again. Your hints and tips keep me trying! She not dead yet and though slow, growth is happening.

I have been struggling with a Vanda for almost a year. The leaves are almost closed it's got one good root, it's got one new leaf that is barely growing. I have babied it, I have changed it from bare root to a little bit of moss to bark and now it's back to lightly covered with moss and in a Vanda basket and is loosing 3 leaves, luckily from the bottom. It's going to just sit in this until it either starts to thrive or dies not doing anything else and I also have another orchid that has absolutely no roots sitting in spagh, that one looks even worse. Again not doing anything else for it. I'm done. Feeling a little defeated at this time. Life goes on as an orchid grower, I guess..... Love your video!

Speaking about crown rot... I just lost 2 of my phaleanopsis... 😭 It is sad... but just like danny said, we learn as we experience things. 😊

Thank you Danny, I was very tensed about my dendrobiums seedling, as they were loosing leaves. Point taken, patience and less fertilization. I think I will bring back the plants inside and would like to use with sphagnum moss, fluffy and less water. My weather is too dry to use leca I think, leca would work better in either semi hydro or self-watering, but it is too cold to leave water at night. Thank you.

HI Dani Happy New Year!! Excellent video!! I have recently been combing through your videos and particularly your ICU videos because I am dealing with a dehydrated Cattleya orchid I purchased back in October. This is a type of orchid that is sold in a home improvement store and that is in a little bag. When I purchased her I can tell she was a little dehydrated however, she has not produced any new roots and her leaves continue to shrivel up and seem to be trying to squeeze out all of her nutrients fro the leaves. The roots are beige but not plump and vigorous they seem to be dried. The leaves are so dehydrated and it is forming bubbles on the leaves. I have taken the orchid out recently and sprayed with peroxide and I am trying to give it more water and keep it hydrated. I am really not exactly sure if she has any other issues like insects or some kind of a virus. However, I am trying to do a process of elimination to target the problems she is having. I love all of your videos and advise. I am happy to be learning so much from your channel and thank you so very much!! ;-)

I have recently started taking care of some orchids and I have noticed how delicate and fragile new root tips are. Are they safe growing in an all bark setup?

Hey Danni. Could you make a new vid concerning the zygopedilum? Also the same for the psychopsis. Do you have it in leca? And what kind of light she needs? What temps and humidity. The zygopetilum is my birthday gift to myself. Also I recently got the psychopsis (about 2wks ago). I've always wanted these orchids and I don't want to lose them. Another reason is they were expensive for me to get them. Between the 2 of them I spent $90.

Danny unfortunately lost both of them😕😢 dont worry psychopsis are hardy orchid i dont know about zygos cuz i have 2 psychopsis one in bark kalihi alba blooming and another on moss red one also blooming use r.o water with sea weed extract tds of the water using to orchids may not cross 100 to 150 these tds level are safe to play with psychopsis they are hardy ones😊 i hope your psychopsis is also hardy ones repot it to fresh medium feed some love, time and fertilizer she will always gift you a alien or a butterfly or a samurai warrior looking or a robot or simply gorgeous blooms😊

I have a phal spiking potted in bark but the media is pretty decomposed. I'd like to change it to SH like my other phals. I don't know if I should do something now or wait until it stops blooming. The plant looks good and healthy but the media smells really bad and the roots within the pot could look so much better. Any thoughts?

Repot the orchid the root loss on phal leads to set back slow growth heath of the individual orchid is first than spike if it aborts the spike due to repot no problem it can grow another spike after it well established under 18°c cool down for a month we can initiate them the instict is like lizard can grow new tail if cut the scenario is here to save tail and losing lizard repot and remove all the dead foul smelling stuff spray it with hydrogen peroxide thorrowly and repot in whatever media u wish and let it go i hope the flower spike will not abort or die cuz phalaenophsis orchids are hardy ones

@@yomairal2477 you will experience when u see greenish blue mold in roots of your orchids potted in leca. And you will be blank in your mind what to do with our orchids when they suffer of root loss. It Is shame to set back or lose orchids they are expensive stuff where losing money for nothing is insane so we need to fetch, collect, gather, analyze and conclude with all the information and if we are in the category of exception in that theory (like green mold on the root potted in leca) we need to share the issue and need to get better solution even it is solvable I mean prevention is better than cure and not be self ish when our issue settles automatically we need to share those stuff which we experience😅 for ex if Danny doesn't share these information where we are lol🤣 and I dont want any likes what can I do with those like swap it for money or orchids funny😅

JAGADISH KUMAR Anytime I used hydrogen peroxide (3%), it killed my orchid’s roots. Which is why the blue mold developed, because it was feeding on the now dead roots 😭 I believe the mold is a normal reaction to root death. So I no longer use hydrogen peroxide and instead, simply wash the roots with normal tap water when repotting new orchids. I don’t want to disturb the natural environment and healthy bacteria on the roots. Just my experience 😊 Happy growing yaar! I hope your orchids do better for you 🌺 we are always learning 😃

Are you reporting in leca only when you see new root growth? I had no problems transferring my phals to leca/SH while they're growing roots. However, I got mold every time when I tried to transfer orchids to leca/SH when they're not growing roots.
