Such a shame to kill a fish that size just for the sake of killing it. I always catch and release alligator gar. They aren't invasive so no reason to kill it unless you're gonna eat it. A fish that size is atleast 100 years old. Ive caught several over 100 lbs and send them back to the water.

@@andrewgilpin961 nah theres a ton of them. For every fish caught theres thousands more that never get caught. Theres tons of giants. The state record in Texas is 275lbs on rod and reel. 200 pounders are caught all the time down here.. But regardless I still don't agree with killing them. When I catch gar I always catch and release. I get my pictures and measurements and let them go. I would never kill a giant like that. They take over 100 years to get that size. It doesn't feel right to kill them. They been here longer than us and are not invasive. I really hate seeing this fish killed, especially at that size. It's my favorite fish. The record for bow in Texas is over 300 pounds. Such a damn shame.

Assuming the fish was not eaten, it seems contradictory that a conservation agency would be celebrating the death of such a large fish.

@@justinlangley9529 if they get eaten thats cool but alot of bow fisherman shoot them just for the sport of killing them. They do have delicious meat but I couldn't kill anything over 5 feet. That takes a long time for them to get that big. Doesnt feel right killing them.

Alligator gar might be the only thing that can keep invasive Asian carp in check. This predator is the only thing that chows down on Asian carp up to and past the first year of growth. Most Gar should probably be left alone.
