The shad get real big here in MO too. i just came back from Buchheit lake where i saw a vulture dining on something a ways off. Went over to check it out and he was eating a 21" gizzard shad. Easily a 3-3.5 pounder. I angled and lost one about 17-18" in Dardenne creek a couple summers ago. Casted a beetle spin and he spun around after it and took it. Man, what a fighter!!! Felt like a p'd off smallmouth.

Apex predator means they have no natural predators against them. Doesn’t matter what they eat.
