How precious! I remember as a young girl; my sister, brother and I would pick lilacs and daffodils from our yard and take them the all the neighbor ladies in our block. We would knock, run as fast as we could and hide to watch the expressions on their faces when they saw the flowers. What fun! Can you imagine someone opening up a gift of May Day baskets? Awesome...

You must be a mind reader. I was trying to figure out how to make this block for 10". I just couldn't get my mind around it. Same goes for anything triangles, I get them turned around. Just watching your tutorials has help me a lot.
@cathywilson35515 жыл бұрын
I am looking over it and think it is even easier to sew it together like a four patch. four half square triangles one block [a] two half square triangles with a strip to the right- another with a strip to the left and then- Big half square triangle another block . but either way, it works.
@paulinehulett64154 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jenny this was the easiest way I've seen to do that block. I started doing it a different way & I can;t seem to get the 'feet' of the basket to go the right way so I've just given up on doing it.

Got this pattern during Shop Hop in the Carolinas this past summer. Have been looking for jelly rolls and can't find the colors I like to match my bedroom. Dusty rose with sage green. Will look at your website and see if I can find something I like. I don't plan to make a big one, but will make a square quilt that will fit on my bedroom wall.

update: I ended up making 50 blocks from the burgundy/blush strips with five really light strips and enough to make another block left over. I had to order extra background fabric for the side setting triangles since I set the basket on point. It made a beautiful quilt!

I bought the slotted trimmers and almost immediately broke one. Since I don’t need another full set, I will try to use another strip tube ruler I have. This is a really cute pattern. One caution; the slotted trimmers make HSTs just a little on the small side, at least that was my experience, so measure yours before using them in a pattern that uses other rulers in your blocks. I hope that makes sense.
@kathyterrell15475 жыл бұрын
I found this to be true as well. I misplaced my slotted trimmer after trimming several blocks, so went to my bloc-Loc trimmer. They were not the same size. The ones trimmed with the slotted trimmer were slightly smaller. Knowing this, you can use the slotted trimmers by putting the stitching line on the trimmer slightly above your stitching line.
@maryschiff95805 жыл бұрын
Kathy Terrell That would help but you’re still guessing, just like using a scant 1/4” seam.

Is this happening to anyone else? I’m following the instructions exactly except using the quilt-in-a-day hst square up rulers. I never cut out a whole quilt until I’ve tried a few blocks. My squares are 3 inches and unfinished blocks are 10 ½ inches. I’m getting THREE blocks from each strip set (18 hst) . Not a bad problem to have but if I keep going I’m going to end up with 20 extra blocks?

Rulers are $32!
@MissouriQuiltCo5 жыл бұрын
The rulers are wonderful to help keep your blocks consistent when working with half square triangles, but they are not a necessity to create this quilt! :)
@dianeledgerwood10915 жыл бұрын
But so helpful to keep everything consistent and well pieced. They helped me so much it was worth it. But if you can do well without them, more power to you. And you have my admiration!

@mariamcphail5 жыл бұрын
With some care and attention, you can use your regular rulers. No need to buy specialty rulers for something like this.
@mindygooding94585 жыл бұрын
Maria McPhail I totally agree!!
@katoz975 жыл бұрын
Agree with Maria! The slotted rulers are just another way to trim/make hst. Though I will say, I use the slotted rulers for all of my hst so they aren't a single use tool like some rulers are.
@MissouriQuiltCo5 жыл бұрын
You can absolutely do this pattern without the Perfect Slotted Trimmers! We just like to show off some tools that can make quilting a bit easier. As long as you square your little half square triangles to 3" and your larger half square triangle block to 5.5" you will be golden! We sure hope this helps clarify! Happy sewing!

Very nice but I think it would be better placed on point.
