I finally got this quilt done. I didn't love the paper foundation but I hadn't done a big project before so it was more of a learning experience for me. I am not new to quilting but this pattern was easy enough for even a confident beginner & it worked up pretty fast. I love old looking quilts so am proud to say I made this one. Even though this really wasn't hard I feel like I really accomplished something making this quilt. I made mine 5 blocks across, 6 blocks down( I used 30 ten inch layer cake squares) with one 2.5 inch strip as the first border & a nice 6 inch print border so it covers the top of my queen sized bed with a small drop (75 by 85 ish but Im calling it a free size) I used Indigo Traditions (blue & white) for a classic look. My points arent perfect but I am very pleased with how it turned out :) Like Jenny says "Finished is better than perfect" . Thank You Missouri Star for creating this tutorial/template/pattern which helped me create a quilt that my family will use and treasure for many years to come. One day i hope to get a scrappy mini periwinkle quilt done but it takes a lot of those little pieces to get a big quilt. I do have several sewn but it will be a while before I have enough :) The point is Thanks to You I now know I can make one & it will be great which feels pretty awesome!
@kimramirez37254 жыл бұрын
Ps it was my intention to use the whole layer cake, 42 blocks, but I was so eager/excited to finish it I stopped at 30 blocks & it ended up being a manageable size to quilt on my home machine without difficulty.

I know this was awhile ago, but will you please clarify your technique? Did you appliqué the center section? And was your cardboard template the same size as theirs? I have the template. Your method sounds easier. 🌷

Jenny, so glad to see this quilt. I just re-started learning free-motion. The white space in the quilt is so great for quilting designs. I lov the way you present the learning opportunity. As a teacher myself, talking to students straight forward is most important. Keep the inspirations coming. Working on a UFO now and anxious to start a new project. Love everything.

Hey love these videos! Everyone, I made this quilt but left the tail on the triangle when I cut it, then left 1/2 inch from the paper edge on the bottom and perfect points! Hope this helps everyone! I used the rule of leaving at least 1/4 beyond the point to establish my seam allowance.

Such a pitty that you are so far away... because I don't find all the wonderful materials, fabrics and prints here. I'm not a big quilter. I only made 2 of them in my sewing life. I love this quilt. I’ve made it with the small and large templates. I immediately noticed that there wasn’t a lot of material at the bottom of the triangle for squaring up and some of my points were cut off. I solved this problem by adding a quarter of an inch to the bottom of the triangle when cutting. It made a huge difference and I then squared the blocks to 5 inches for the small template. Problem solved and all my points matched perfectly. Love this quilt and the tutorials are wonderful.

Jenny I made this pattern a few years ago and I found it in the Aunt Martha quilting patterns and I made much smaller pieces than what you are using and it is a beautiful quilt. It was called Arkansas Snowflake and it is also known as Periwinkle. I love the pastels like the quilt on the wall which is so beautiful. I made it without paper piecing but it is called for paper piecing to make sure that all angles turn out exact. A very beautiful quilt and I did it all by hand.

I bought the templete & papers for the wacky web quit. I made a king size and it is OK . My points did not line up perfecctly. It could have been me but I redid a few and just couldn't get it so put it together anyway. I like the look of the quilt in the background but now am wondering how those points will line up. Color point to color point is there enough fabric for the 1/4" without blunting the point? Thanks for the tutorials

Hi Wendy-I used a solid white jelly roll for my background pieces. I cut the rectangles at 3.5 inches. I tried 3 but too short. The blocks measure 6 inches or 5.5 finished. I too love the smaller one as it looks more antique. So far, I have cut 206 pieces with that little template! I admit that this pattern represents the most tedious work I have invested in a quilt so will be keeping it for myself :) Thanks Jenny! p.s.-I had no problems getting perfect points with the template & papers.

I noticed the same thing, however, if you place the ruler on the 1/4 inch line when you make the straight trim instead of directly on the paper pattern, I believe there was enough extra there to allow the seam allowance.
@karenallen205512 жыл бұрын
I made the block using 5 1/2 X 6 1/2 inch rectangles instead of the 5 X 61/2 inch referenced. Then, I did as Cindy suggested and cut the bottom of the triangle adding 1/4 inch to the edge of paper. That gave a nice 1/4 inch seam allowance which should let my star points stay crisp and not blunted.

I think I've now seen all of your tutorials and this is my favorite. I want to do it with the smaller template as I want one more like the original upon which your version is based. I want to do it with the blue toned civil war fabrics and off white or unbleached muslin. I think it will be lovely. I am going to search your site to try and find a size template inbetween the large one you're using and the much smaller one. And THANK YOU.

Do you think the Dresden tool would make a smaller version for the middle triangle and possibly get 2 out of each charm square? Just curious. I love them both! I like this quilt only there is too much background for me. At the 7:28 marker an idea hit me. When you have the four units together to make a square, what if you sewed a triangle to the corners (or put a square on the corners, sew diagonally and then flip it back). It would make a secondary pattern of a triangle four patch inside background area. Depending on the size of the folded back square/triangle on the corner, the look would be different. Great for stash busting. Gotta try it.
@lindagarmon818012 жыл бұрын
This is a most excellent use of the Spider Web pattern. When you made this quilt did you use all the same charm packs? I would make this using 4 different charm packs, but in the same, or close to color way for variety in the prints. I did this in one other of your quilt patterns and it came out really nice.
