The fact that the owlchemist is your comfort character, also really speaks volumes about how we as a community absolutely adore her. there are plenty of amazing cosplays and character creations out there that we can look at and be like "that's pretty cool" but it's so rare to see a character that is created, that's foundation speaks to the very heart and soul of the creator to the point you're just sitting there in awe like "that is a masterpiece, that is perfection" like people don't look at that and see cosplay they look at that and they see you, the owlchemist. and don't worry about getting emotional about an imaginary bird lady, we all get very emotional about the imaginary bird lady. :D

In my head she would probably be a Alchemist artificer with a splash of Transmuter wizard in DnD5e terms. At least that how i did my harpy-phenotype Aarakockra character heavily inspired by Juniper. Even took a bit inspiration for the name and called my character Cloudberry.

You might even make the ears nerve controlled, making it react to for instance to impulses to the muscles that lift your eyebrows, or if you can move your ears up and down (most can't) to those impulses. The wig should accommodate the needed electrode pads, you can link the whole lot to a Lilypad (can be sewn into your suit) or something similar with a properly shielded dual/ quad opamp to amplify the impulses so that the microcontroller on the Lilypad picks them up and engages the solenoid that will pull to make each ear stand up individually. The hardest part will to be to eliminate background noise being picked up and moving the ears by mistake.

First, I want to say thank you for doing these long-form videos. They are so comforting to watch, as well as informative and inspiring. Second, it's so wonderful to see someone else sewing who makes mistakes, and has to re-do things. I'm so intimidated by projects and creators, putting them on pedestals and thinking I can never be that good. Watching someone whose end products are so amazing make the same "Oh no, I sewed it backwards" that I've done a dozen times made me excited to try a project again for the first time in years. Thank you.

Thank you so much! Honestly I felt one of my biggest barriers to starting new projects is not wanting to start cos I knew I couldn't do it perfectly. Friend I have been sewing and embroidering for over three decades now and I still make mistakes. I still spend more time taking stitches out than I do putting them in. Please don't worry about making mistakes, it's part of the story of the piece. Enjoy the journey and drown the goblin that tells you it has to be perfect. Here's a tiny piece of garment history for you: the little bows all over famous brands of underwear are there historically to cover stitching errors.

I don't know from cosplay, crafts, or sewing, but I've always enjoyed seeing your shorts and have shared your various alchemist joke skits to my D&D group as I play a happy little gnome alchemist, and dig the vibe. Your content here was fun, and full of enthusiasm and love. People will respond to that. I just sat through a 55 minute craft video not because I know, or even care to know much about the craft of cosplay, but because of the energy and enthusiasm about a subject you clearly care about. Your content is good. Which is to say I would absolutely sit and watch a 20 minute lore dump about Juniper, her sister, and her world.

I've enjoyed "the Owlchemist" shorts and this look into her creation is fascinating. I was not surprised at your crafting skill but what did raise my eyebrows was the missing terminology for some things. The hollow center of a feather is a quill. Fabric has a warp (the long threads up the roll) and a weft (the short threads across the roll) for those in the comments that don't know, fabric shrinks and stretches along the weft which is important when sewing pants or a shirt. Cheers.

I adore Juniper! They were a breath of fresh air in all the craziness of lockdown. Also, the central shaft of a feather where the barbs come out to form the flat part (or vane) is called a rachis (RAY•kiss). I guess the part that actually attaches to the skin of the wing is the part that's called the quill. ALSO-also, I'd absolutely sit through an entire hour of just the lore you made for Juniper just because I'm the kind of person who actually reads the books in Skyrim. I'm a lore hound.

Not gonna lie - the last couple minutes of your video choked me up. I've had a horrible last three years - my mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in her back a month before her mother (who I was primary caregiver for for nearly 7 years) went into hospice; Mom's first treatment was the day before my grandmother's funeral. Thankfully the radiation worked, and she had surgery to rebuild her broken back at the end of 2022. Then last year my father passed away, and last month I had to put my 13-year-old cat down. I need a "imaginary bird lady full of comfort and positivity" right now.

The funny videos of Junipers antics in the potion shop are brilliant. The "keeping it real" nature of the video, showing the errors as well as the successes just adds depth to everything you do. I love to watch crafts persons at work and view many peoples uploads in the cosplay universe, your work is definitely right up there in the top tiers. Cosplay is more than making a costume, it's also about giving personality and depth to the character. Juniper has all this and more. This is wonderful. For what it's worth, in my Pathfinder campaign, Juniper recently hired a group of adventurers to solve a pest problem. She used to have rats, which were easy to deal with (and tasty!) but now a mimic has moved into her basement and is eating all her rats! Worse, it got into her alchemy supplies and ate some strange combination of mutagens that agree with it too much, and it's spawned dozens of mini-mimics. the size of rats and about as smart as housecats.

It's so amazing. Back in the day (couple months ago) I saw a Juniper short and was just overcome with 'dorablitude. Then I only saw more of those and other costume stuff. Finally when I subbed I had (at the risk of being indelicate) that moment guys have when they finally see Cassandra Clayton after being Elvira fans. "Wait, she's even more adorable in person." And (I'm getting wordy I know.) The absolute magic of watching all these steps and never QUITE seeing that moment it becomes greater than the sum of it's parts is like witchcraft, whether it's you or any of the other amazingly talented people on here. Never apologize for loving your character. I've been a lover and reader of fantasy for literally a half century and she's one of the best "actually come to life" creations in all of everdom. I wish I had the capacity to create life like that. Rock on. Be weird authentically. o7

It is absolutely stunning and is inspiring me to seek my own aesthetic that brings me happiness. Where do you collect such wonderful decorations and trinkets? Thank you for the happiness you bring to us all.

Well thank you so much! Actually it's a great coincidence that you ask about it cos the next video I've got coming is kind of a craft-room tour with a few upgrades, so I'll go over some of my favourite bits of the shelf then too!

Loved the video. I remember first seeing your character a couple years ago and was amazed at the original creative detail. Such a simple thing as ears gives the character so much more depth of expression. You play the character so nicely, It is incredible to see something original and creative done so well. Awesome job.

just from seeing juniper in your shorts I couldnt even tell how worn the costume actually was so the reveal of the revamped version at the end was great, it looks amazing! the new headpiece is so much fuller and the little cape is so cute!! 💖💖

Loved it, all of it! The amazing creativity of the character concept. The practical engineering of making a costume that WORKS. The sensible safety warning re using toxic materials. The very-relatable issue with sewing sleeves & pockets in correctly 😂. The focus on using recycled materials wherever possible. The down-to-earth Aussie approach. The great editing & humour! ❤️

Hello Charlotte. I know I’m a bit late for this, but I just wanted to say that your content has inspired me to take up cosplaying as my own comfort characters that I’ve created, causing me to build a full leather plate armor set for one and an entire cosplay where I forged my own blades for another. I even learned embroidery because your costumes and videos inspired me to. I’ve even started to work out to become lean enough to fully realize their cosplays in the way I envision them. Thank you, charlotte. You’ve truly changed me.

Great video! I haven't done this with french seams so I'm not sure if its different there, but if you sew the pieces of the pocket to the pants before sewing the whole thing closed it makes things way easier. That's how I taught myself how to do it with skirts so that I didn't have to maneuver it around the machine so much.

I've seen photos of your cosplay before but seeing the video of you working on it and the finished project was nothing short of amazing! And I love the detail and work you put into this, especially with the lore and building the character beyond the cosplay! You are a beautiful and truly inspiring artist, and I love how your passion is so evident in your creations!

I'm finally making the bookish. I hope it makes you smile. 0:37 - 0:47 hell ya. You should never give a flying "hoot" about cringe BS. Have fun doing whatever makes you happy, and don't give those BSers any time in your mind. Everything I have seen you make from shorts to the updates for your cosplays, are absolutely amazing and artsy AF. I can't wait to actually hear about the lore of your favorite character you have made. 1:00 - 1:22 this is going to be a jam packed video. I actually didn't know juniper had arm wings tho, I thought that was just a new thing. I can't wait to see everything you make for Juniper V2 (or more). 1:27 - 1:50 those boots are amazing for all sorts. Those boots really fit Juniper two. 1:51 - 3:04 the pantaloon style really fits Juniper's personality and flair. That linen is going to come in real handy for any piece of clothing, like you talk about. That brown should look better to flow everything a little more. AND your eyes even covered up (with contacts) in your cosplays and costumes are gorgeous. I love how bright and expensive you are. I never understood why female clothes basically never have pockets, that are really handy. Why don't you just go to a country you like for a ren fair, you will get at least a souvenir. 3:09 - 3:14 that's why it's always soo good. The cook or artist that doesn't need to measure anything, typically makes the best stuff. The vibes are a grovein. 3:50 - 7:08 that's all really smart. At least you learn from your mistakes and community. The do it till it works mindset is so fun and let's people do so much more, but you do always learn from your mistakes which makes it even better. IDK if you can make elastic out of rubber trees, but if you can it literally grows in/on trees so that shouldn't be that expensive. That "finished product" looks amazing, it flows and fits junipers so well. 7:37 - 7:59 I love how you're so bouncy like Juniper. It's ok that you're impatient, you weren't this time so it's actually coming out a lot better. pants look amazing even in motion, the best part is that they're comfortable. That sucks that you're Houses where made by one of the 3 pigs, at least you have the stuff to keep warm. ( +';!? - ;:!?/ ) (this part is just my stuff technically. It was just as basically a save point for the text so I could go do things without a problematic delete or turn off.) I'm not done yet, just sending it so it's sent. I will edit it till it's done. I'm just going to get some more tea, and some food. I also smoked and enjoyed the warm weather in USA Georgia (that's actually needed if you don't know, the USA crazy big so the amount of different places that are hotter or colder, even with different weather patters overall too.) but pulled an all nighter with a 4 hourish nap so I'm heading to bed now. I will pick this up when I wake up enough. I hope you have a good rest of your day and/or a really good morning when you wake up.) ( $#:$_ )(I wanted to continue this that day but I got BS metaphorically thrown at me. I thought I was up enough to make something like this but I'm not. I will have this on my mind until I complete it. I'm sorry I just don't have anything to lean on so to speak. Have a good rest of your days/nights.) ( #@:&@ ) (I'm starting it again hopefully it will be done todayish, I really want to do this because I don't have any other way to say thanks for the cool art, in any impactful way. It's my only payment basically.) 8:15 - 8:52 that technique is really cool. I actually really like coffee. I'm one of those guys that just likes a black coffee, and I'm a little bit of a picky person when it comes to my coffee too. A lot just tastes like weird watered down mud. Does it matter what type of coffee you use, for the color or anything? And what did you use? And that is my cup of coffee for a day, genuinely I would actually love to just make a good pot of coffee in the morning like that and just have it throughout the day. Even though you where wanting a darker shade, I think that's actually better overall. (👍) 8:53 - 9:55 I love the twisted lore you make, jokingly and literally your processes and imagination are amazing. I can't believe it's only been 4 years since juniper was made. I missed that feather falling potion, that concept is just really funny and opens the door for so much more shenanigans. It's amazing that you can do what you love and get paid for it. Your nana sounds so cool, I wonder who she is. I have never thought of juniper as a harpies but hemlock (I think that's junipers sisters name) just shows that harpy side, so they are kinda harpies just juniper is a not so violent whopies. 10:03 - 11:57 Why do y'all have planned power outages? I know it's just something y'all would have to do but it's really smart to have all that stuff prepared. IDK how legal it is for you but you could have a '"vodka" fuled generators, and potatoe farms to make the "vodka". It just technically needs to be a good enough liquid so it doesn't necessarily need to be vodka. If you could do that it would be a perfect way to have power as long as you keep that stuff cycling. You look a lot better after that walk and shopping trip. it's awesome that you found a part of your costume out and about as well. I bet those beads will be a glitter type problem for a while, but at least you had a plan before that disaster. 12:38 - 13:00 all those problems you have with it shows how far you have gone in the artist's way, it's a really big show of talent. (My phone is about to die so I will play a little bit of something while I charge it, then I will continue this bookish. I was going to but it got full charged around 5AMish, i wanted to stay up and finish it but I was reminded that I had an appointment today. I basically slided down my sleep like a fun way down a ladder, I woke up in like 1 hourish intervals. That was so I didn't stay asleep to mess myself up, but still get enough rest to function a lot better I will finish this Tomorrow when I wake up enough. I really want to get this done, it's been on my "back burner" for too long.)

juniper has been a comfort character for me a long time and i will definitely use her in my little private dnd-campaign as an essential potion-creater, she is absolutely adorable. And many thanks for showing how you make this amazing character with all its "well, it should work out somehow" parts of the creation. As someone who just starts out creating their own clothes and costumes, its really encouraging to see that other people also have no idea what they are doing and don't use exact measurements.

I love the Juniper costume for so many reasons... The headpiece is so expressive and active, the choice of fabrics and styles is so fun, but I think it's the fact that I also love owls that makes this so special. I've held and flown so many owls over the years, that it's so easy to see the little touches in not just the costume, but the personality of Juniper. This is definitely one of my favorite costumes of all time.
