I agree with you and also recognize TRUE talent/musical ability. Unfortunately, I was not following Toy and the other Caldwell. I have seen Marshall Tucker Band approx. 30 times +. Keswick this past Feb., Mercer Park, Hamilton, NJ (absolutely AWESOM). When they played "FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN' - THERE WAS A GOD GIVEN STORM BEHIND THEIR STAGES AND LIGHTING WAS PREVALENT; HOWEVER, WE THE AUDIENCE AND BAND, FAIR GOERS WERE SAFE!! the storm was behind the stage about 5 miles away. FREAKY! T R U E S T O R Y.

Memories come rushing back, Saw them 3 or 4 times in Johnson City, TN. in the 70's. When southern rock was in its prime. Smoked many a mexican and homegrown joint while listening to some of the south's primetime tunes. At 61 now, I will never forget all of the greats like Toy.

This song and the whole album, popular in 1979 when I was stationed in Keflavik, Iceland. It is a magic song and is in a magic place for me in my mind; a beautiful place with a beautiful, Viking woman, physically beautiful almost beyond belief, and indeed, she did love me when there was a wind in the Iceland sky, and in the natural hot springs sauna all about that island, Keflavik and Jodi and we'll be running like the wind. Thanks Toy, for the soundtrack of my Iceland life. Love ya and R.I.P. brother. R/ Eddie

James, not many were aware of his rhythm comping skills, when I played beside him. As best I could tell he actually pinched multi strings with his thumb and index finger rather than the single thumb attack. It’s something you could never teach someone, he just “had it”.

The Mighty Thumb of Toy Caldwell man he is sorely missed. Gone way to young the Caldwell family went through losing three brothers in what seemed such a short span of time. All bass players use their thumb but not like Tommy Caldwell. I guess watching and hearing Toy played a big part of that. Toy never forgot his brother Marines either The Devil Dogs caught hell up on the supposed DMZ. Most I knew came home the color of the clay up there. Anyway people that aren't aware should know about Toy's service. More than a Marine more than a musician back in the day we'd say something like the man had a lotta soul. RIP Brother Caldwell GBNF
