This helps them get some of the attention that lighter skinned women tend to get. Its just like the flip side in which there are many lights skinned women surround themselves with darker skinned women so that they can stand out amongst their group of darker skinned friends. There is so much infighting amongst black people that ideals that apply to other groups of women are the total opposite of how black people operate. We don't always assist in lifting up those who look like us because of fear and jealousy. In elevating other women who looks like us we often fear being replaced by whomever we choose to assist. However wrong it may seem; these fears are valid because those in power only allot a certain number of spaces for black people in mainstream media, entertainment, & positions of power.
