I'm Dutch and this is a favourite recipe from my childhood. Google Caramel Apple Pudding Cake and Lemon Pudding Cake as well.

Late seeing this!! I raised some rhubarb in NC for awhile and it's definitely an early Spring fruit. It's too hot for good rhubarb now. Our "hearing aid" story! Hubby kept saying I mumbled, yes, this went on awhile. Finally, he went and got tested, got hearing aids, and amazingly I stopped mumbling LOL. We've been married 57 happy years!! That pudding cake looks wonderful - definitely in line for a near future dessert, after my blueberry cobbler. I've made chocolate pudding cakes, but a little different.

I was chuckling most of the time through this video. In a couple of weeks hubby and I will celebrate 55 years of marriage, and I remember this was a popular end of the 60s early 70s recipe--Chocolate Pudding Cake. I believe I got it from Betty Crocker. Later, with some of our kids and our first microwave oven, they decided to experiment making it in that. It kind of exploded all over and they renamed it Frankenstein Monster Cake!! When I was married 25 years I made a family cookbook for them, with recipes and stories. This is still one of their favorite recipes! I don't think it's Dutch at all.

We made that dessert all the time in the late 60s-early 70s. I remember that it wasn’t overly sweet tasting like you said. I will have to find my mom’s recipe to see what it has for the fat component but I’m thinking Crisco. We didn’t put nuts in it but the pecans sound really good.

When it calls for sifted flour, you sift first, then measure it out. Sifting lightens the weight of the flour. Usually in baking I like to go by weight not by measurement.
