Is anyone tempted to get truffling? We've not started the training with Tilly yet 😅 It was a busy week on the narrowboat build, and great to get started on the stud walls! And thanks to @DanniandJoe - without their channel we'd be absolutely clueless 😂

My friend had the flooring from an old bowling alley lane and also a school gymnasium. They did their floors with the gym wood and they left all of the painted line markings which popped up randomly everywhere. It looked amazing. They used the bowling alley wood for their kitchen and a free standing table. I’m the table the alley markings were kept in their original format and so the table had a black arrow shape in the centre. It was such beautiful beautiful timber. Their bathroom wall and kitchen backsplash was done using random antique tiles which looked incredible. It looked like the random colourful tiles had simply been placed haphazardly, but my friend spent weeks arranging and rearranging the tiles to get it looking absolutely perfect. There we no two tiles alike, each was different in the backsplash. In the bathroom however she used also used one or two boxes of dark green tiles in between the antique tiles. I absolutely loved using her bathroom ❤

What amazes me about KZbin is the vast array of experts who notice things just by watching. Well done, #Keith! You did good seeing it and helping them fix it BEFORE they had to redo the entire insides!

Hands up for super helpful #Keith 🙌- You're right though, it would have been a much worse job had the cladding started to warp!!

Wee bit of advise coming from a joiner of 40 years experience. Assuming the boat isnt lying level,( because of the weight distribution), to mark out your studs from the floor, rather than using that small square its best to make a larger one. The small one is going to be very open to inaccuracy. A larger one can be made by using the 3-4-5 method to get a true 90 degrees or you can use a sheet of plywood cut to an L shape but keeping the machined edges of length and width. If you make it to a few mm less than the floor to ceiling height it will make all the marking out much easier and quicker.

Another great vlog guys. Sorry for all the extra work on the cladding screws. Try making yourself a long T square using some spare timber with the upright nearly as tall as your ceiling and the cross piece a couple of feet long, brace them together square. Then up end it. You'll have a much easier time trying to mark out points on your ceiling. Keep up the good work, floor looks great.

Thanks Keith - really appreciate your help! That's a great shout, we'll extend our set square - that should make a huge difference with trying to measure from the floor to ceiling! Thank you 🙏

Hey guys…Love the flooring😊 Well done! Think about using leveling shims to give you a “flat surface” on the ceiling..basically, attach a board across the ceiling where you want the wall to be, and use the leveling shims to make that board “ flat “ by putting the shims on the side where it angles, then trim off shims with sharp box cutter or similar..this is how carpenters square up doors and windows. I personally was thinking that you would put in “portable walls”, something like a hospital bed curtain, mount the railing on the ceiling, then move wall or curtain in place when needed, open when not in use, just to free up “ open” space on your boat..shutter type closet doors would work, looking forward to more videos…thanks
@thistinylife Жыл бұрын
Heya Michael! Thank you, really good idea. We've been ok so far by marking out the angle using a straight bit of timber running parallel with the ceiling curves. Then measuring that angle and trimming the ends with the mitre. And yeh... I like the curtain idea but Gabby won't stand for it haha!

It can't be easy getting studwork "right". On land I would use a spirit level but that wouldn't take the lean of the boat, either side to side or bow to stern, into account. I am surprised that you didn't sand the floor first before any walls went in though. Another great video, love the thought of any dog being trained to truffle hunt. I'm taking mine out tomorrow. Thanks David
@thistinylife Жыл бұрын
Hey David! That's exactly the trouble we're having... A lot of it is eyeballing and trying to work out some ways around the problems... Also praying for straight enough battens 🤞 the floor we're trying to keep quite 'rustic' so I'm hoping a good clean will tidy them up some more. I don't want to lose the paint marks so I can't sand too heavily 😄
@rowancrafts Жыл бұрын
Sorry for making a wrong assumption. I use a lot of reclaimed timber and agree that the character is a story of its history. Can I suggest a cleaning solution? 1 cup of cider vinegar in 1 gallon of warm water. Use a stiff brush. I use this solution, don't get the timber too wet. Good luck.

Dont use a tape measure between floor and roof. 2 lengths of wood each shorter than the gap to be measured are held together and slid apart until they touch both surfaces then clamp. Hold against batten and mark cut lines.

Sadly it's not much use on a boat! The boat is never level because of the weight distribution 🙂
@malcolmone1 Жыл бұрын
@@thistinylife ok ,try this way, make 90%triangle out of wood so the one side is longer than the base part ,so it will stand up when made ,making sure it is square, ,placing it standing up on the floor ,will give you the tilt of the boat ,and work off that ,,,, now to get a curve in timber ,you have to make a series of cuts on one side about 3/4 of the way though, it then should flex a bit to make a slight curve ,if it does not bend extend cut marks nearer the edge ,but do not saw the the way though lol
@malcolmone1 Жыл бұрын
did i see you with a metal square ,just as good ,one of you hold the square, so it is on edge on the floor ,while the other one taps wood into place ,,will work on all sides to see if wood is square to the set square
