Mister Rogers remixed by John D. Boswell for PBS Digital Studios.
MP3 version now available! to.pbs.org/pbsr...
(Headphones highly recommended!)
When we discovered video mash-up artist John D. Boswell, aka melodysheep, on KZbin, we immediately wanted to work together. Turns out that he is a huge Mister Rogers Neighborhood fan, and was thrilled at the chance to pay tribute to one of our heroes. Both PBS and the Fred Rogers Company hope you like John's celebration of Fred Rogers' message.
This is the first in a series of PBS icons remixed.
Many thanks to the folks at the Fred Rogers Company for their support.

I thought that about Bill Cosby at one time..If Fred ever gets taken down it's surely over…I'm surprised someone hasn't "come forward" to date in this time of anything for attention,a book & the talk show circuit & making money at someone else's expense..if it happens I hope it's after I'm gone.

Sad that Prime video makes you pay a ridiculous amount for episodes of his show. Mr. Rogers himself said that he wanted his show to be free for anyone, but monopolies are pure evil.

My aunt has three sons who were all really big fans of Mr. Rogers when they were younger. My aunt couldn't take them to see him because they are severely autistic. She wrote to him explaining her situation. When Mr. Rogers came to their area, he visited their house, and put on a show just for them. I used to have a picture of all of them together, hanging on the fridge. I was little at the time, and I thought it was so cool that my aunt had met him. He really was a great man.

Rogers, Ross and Sagan were all in pretty different fields (Children's entertainment, painting, and astrophysics, respectively), but they all had a very positive message about life. I'm sure they were all on public TV at some point, but I think the reason people love them is that they're simultaneously intelligent and uplifting.
@jaketorbeck
@jaketorbeck 8 жыл бұрын
Yes, Mr. Rogers, Bob Ross, and Carl Sagan all had shows on PBS (Mr. Rogers's Neighborhood, The Joy of Painting, and Cosmos, respectively), but just as Mr. Johnson said below, they were also very positive, intelligent, and uplifting folks who addressed their viewers directly.

I know a lot of people respect Mr. Rogers as a great human being, but if we really, _really_ took his words to heart, not just thought of them as touching and deep, I think that's what would really change the world. Really, truly treating everyone like your neighbor would fix so many problems.
@aCitizenOfTheEarth
@aCitizenOfTheEarth 6 жыл бұрын
I‘m with you. But I feel it kind of hard to define ‚... like you love yourself‘. I mean I try to be nice and often value the good of people I know higher than the good of mine. And if you are particular about it: even a little act of friendship like holding a door open for a stranger fits in that interpretation of ‚love‘ or devotion. So I would like to know which specific commandments/recommendations did Mr. Rogers communicate over the years? Or is it more like the big picture which one got when it/she/he watched Mr. Rogers for quite a time. I would accept that, but it doesnt help to understand the belief this man had. It seems that you were so fortunate to grow up with Mr. Rogers so maybe you could tell which good characteristics you think you have because of the best neighbour. I‘m looking forward to your answers. Have a nice day. Greetings from Bavaria, Germany, Earth.

"Sometimes when we disagree, I feel frustrated. But I never forget how lucky I am to have you in my family. Always remember how special you are" ~Audio captured from 1981 of Fred Rogers having an argument with his wife on set. Mr. Rogers projected an air of genuine, unwavering, almost saintly pure-hearted decency. But when you look deeper, at the person behind the image ... that's exactly what you find there, too. landcommander1981 Indeed. In all honesty, I grew up in a country where Mr. Rodgers wasn't aired, at least not on any national channels that my family had access to. Though watching this as an adult, I can honestly say I will have to show this to my kids, at least when they are young, before peer pressure makes them want to watch series with screaming, obstinate children with super powers that portray adults like complete idiots and bastards that you should never listen to... Sigh. What happened to good children's TV?
@landcommander1981
@landcommander1981 10 жыл бұрын
Agreed, I think the world would be a much more self-adjudged place if we all just tried to live by some of the things that Mr. Rogers taught us. I do hope that you can show your children this program; it's a wonderful part of growing up. Sadly, the kids today don't seem to be receptive to shows like this. They want fast-paced programs, or shows with oversmart child characters who make the adults in their life feel stupid. When we lost Fred Rogers, we lost a lot of good children's television.

Story time, featuring Klaus Burgstaller. When I learned some English that I could understand people, I was still a low quality boy. I didn't learn like most people because I moved. All though I was like 8, I felt like I was half my age due to my lack of learning. People were concered about me. Though back in the day, I did nothing on weekends and sick says but watch TV. One day I had a caught a cold so bad I had to say out of school for a week. My little sister, Aloisia, had known far more English than I did, and she was about 5. I came in after waking up during my sick week to see her watching a show called "Mister Roger's Neighborhood." I stuck along with her and watched a bit of it. I eventually started to like the show and wanted to see more. In which case, after watching the show, my speed of learning somehow increased. It was either because I was concentrating on something else, or because I was encouraged. In which, it was both. Apperently the show had saved my life from being a bigger failure then I was. However, when I was 15, I had heard the news that Mr. Rogers was already dead, in which I looked up his "last words" and fell into a lot of tears. And thus, Klaus' life through America had finally begun. And plus, I learned a lot of English through that show. That's the end of the story.

Ah...mix tapes were the best! If you were a complete freak like me, you needed like a whole set up that could record off the radio, from one tape to another, from a record player or cd player, and also had a microphone jack plug in! But everything went on THE TAPE! And then I got a computer my first year in college, and basically failed out once I learned how to download mp3s. *sigh* Good Times...good times. Having watched the show for the first time from an adult perspective has made me come to truly appreciate everything Mr. Rogers contributed to this world. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and declare that the Vatican would not be canonising a Presbyterian minister, the very denomination which was built upon stripping back the pomp and excess of the Catholic church in the first place. Besides I think they don't let you become any kind of anything in the Vatican until you've molested a certain number of children and covered for a certain number of others who had also done so.

@@casskillian Let's be real, though - because he leans more to the Right than the Left, the far-Left would be out there trying to cancel him at the drop of a hat. The very people who either didn't grow up with his show and good messages, I'm sure.

Honestly, I can't think of a single Leftist (at least in the US right now) who would have the balls to say something nasty to Mr. Rogers face. It would be like insulting your beloved grandmother, or a favorite kindergarten teacher

Every year since this got posted I’d find myself watching it and crying. It’s like the universe knows I needed the emotional release. Sometimes nothing’s really up; just to be reminded of one good person’s power to cause change. Good tears. Thank you, Mr. Rogers.

COLE, GRACE SPSB I don't mean to sound like a dick, but I have to know, how did the blind girl even know there were fish on the set that had to be fed at all? Not trying to be offensive, and I don't know what blind people do their spare time, but I didn't think they spend too much time watching any T.V.

I agree, children in this time will never experience television like this nowadays. All there is on a daily basis are random, bullshit TV shows with no values for children to learn from. We're growing retards now that all these good, wholesome TV shows have faded away after 2004.

Simpler steps are also available: participating in the fund raiser drives for PBS ("Paid for by views like you"); voting on state and federal legislation that upholds these types of shows and puts bans on age-inappropriate shows that regularly appear on "children's" networks; literally, no kidding, writing your congressman for bills like this even works. State legislation passes roughly 17x more bills than federal, but either is a good place to start.

Everything I hear about Mr. Rogers makes me appreciate him more. One of my favorite stories about him is the one time his car was stolen. It was mentioned in the news that day and the next day the car showed up in his driveway. It had a note on it that that roughly said "if I knew it was your car I wouldn't have stolen it." Another favorite of mine is how a blind viewer wrote to him that she was concerned he didn't feed his fish enough. So every time he fed them on the show, he would say he was just for her. RIP Mr. Rogers.

Mr. Rogers was a big part of my childhood, and I don't think there will ever be anyone as incredibly endearing and as incredible as the incomparable Fred Rogers. This man is literally the highest expression of human nature. A prolific contributor to society who touched countless lives; a wholly compassionate man who by all accounts embodied the highest ideals, and whose very presence was a source of peace and love. He's an example to children of what's possible for those who allow the glory of spirit to guide their lives rather than falling victim to the trappings of the material world. One such man compensates for millions of lesser individuals, and all these lesser may hold out hope that with him as the model they too may achieve greatness of character and lifelong joy.

The ending where he vanishes into the light makes me think he’s walking into Heaven; and therefore, gives me chills. He’s truly my hero and has always inspired how I work with children. When I become a social worker, I will dedicate my practice to his legacy and the good he has done for humanity and the generations of children that grew up feeling like he was their grandpa by watching Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.
