People keeps on hating misty because she is "mean" to Ash. The fact is Ash and Misty's dynamic is they are mean to each other. They started out in bad terms because who wouldn't when someone destroys your bike. That's the funny thing about the original series that makes it more unique: Ash, Misty and Brock all has their mean streaks like real friends are. They are comfortable enough to make fun of each other.

I think Serena is a little overrated. I do not hate her and you are free to like her, but I feel like she was only created to be a love interest for Ash (and of course it goes nowhere). All I see are people talk about why Serena would make a great girlfriend for Ash. They do not talk about her character arc or her personality. Just shipping.

Actually, Misty, at least in the anime, isn't a tomboy. A lot of folks think that because of the red hair and her title in the games. She is actually one of the more feminine characters of the anime. Iris and Lana are actually more tomboyish than Misty. I would say that to some extent even May and Mallow are more tomboyish

I like that Misty stood up for herself a lot throughout the original serious, and I imagine she gave girls a character they could look up to as someone who wasn't just concerned with 'girly' things, and who could handle herself around Ash and Brock. I really respect her character for that, especially at the time the series originally aired. As for other characters, Jessie and Max have always been favourites of mine. I always found them funny (Max made me laugh too much to find him annoying, but maybe because I was a little smarta**, too!). Jessie always seemed to be the one in charge, too - I guess Pokémon really valued the whole female empowerment thing. 🏋️‍♀️

While Lillie is my favourite pokemon girl, Misty is a close second. While she did receive huge development after going back home, she did develop a little bit when she was with Ash. She became more motherly and learned to be responsible when she adopted Togapi And she bicker less with Ash as time passed. I will admit she could be a bitch sometimes, Misty is still a great character. This is a great video and I hope you make more in the future.

What I most appreciated about Misty was that she held her own against Ash. So many other companions are followers, or their arc revolves around Ash exclusively. Misty was strong-willed, spoke her truth, and didn't bow down to anyone. I looked up to her as a kid because she was strong and kind. She was badass and soft. She showed a lot of duality and complexity. It made her a lot more relatable. Also, it was refreshing as a young girl to see someone on screen who wasn't just there to add to the protagonist. She wasn't an accessory, like SO many girls in anime are. She was her own person. Also, Misty has a lot of qualities that would be traditionally associated with a strong guy, but since she's a girl those qualities are viewed differently.

Misty is a very good character in regards to her dynamic with the two others and is a nice change of pace from the other companions in the series. I personally like her “mean” personality because she was different from other companions and overall was a nice character to just have on a journey. I like Misty and like her better in the newer episodes then I do the older episodes.i find it strange how out of the 3 ash was the only 1 ever shown actually working towards achieving his goal.heres all of mistys character development che received while traveling with ash and brock went from disliking ash to liking and caring about him originally only traveled with him so he could pay her back for her destroyed bike to when it got fixed her not wanting to stop traveling with ash.che became less abusive and more patient with psyduck.and after traveling with him became the cerulean gymleader and learnt how to control a gyradose.and in sun and moon che definitely cares about Psyduck now when at 1 point che diddent like him.and completely stopped abusing him and he's even her main partner now. ches recived lots of character development.and learnt how to make cascade badges.and became a nicer and better person over time.

I really liked this video considering you're not a great Kasumi fan or Pokéshipping fan. Still, I guess the dub didn't make any justice for her character. For example, after the Kanto League, Kasumi does everything she can, according to her sassy and powerful personality, to bring Satoshi back to life as he was very sad and dejected. She also got mad at Hiroshi when she thought he had played a trick on Satoshi before their match. All she thinks about his Satoshi's sake, even tho she isn't the sweetest person on Earth. She didn't want to make fun of him: she just wanted to give him reasons to fight back.

Having binged watched a lot of seasons in recent times I still place Misty as my favorite female companion and only second to Brock overall. (May and Lillie coming up behind them.) I actually have a deeper appreciation for Misty and wished that she and Brock got more episodes dedicated to them. (Even Brock didn't get that many episodes to further his Pokemon Breeder plot.) Like you said she would go on the defensive if Ash made a smart remark about her, but when they are not doing such actions they got along really well. Sun and Moon showed that off. While Misty still had her fiery temper she never let it out on Ash. Because he wasn't constantly being a cocky loudmouth or smartass towrds her. But when he got overzealous on his win over her in the gym she playfully called out his character, putting him back in check like the old days. In the OG Misty had a lot of responsibility that's not seen at first glance. Think of it this way. If you removed Misty from the OG and just had Ash and Brock, it would have been a disaster. Ash would have been this cocky, loudmouth, jackass, not to dissimilar from Gary's personality at the time. Brock would have fallen in love with every girl and would have no one to snap him back to reality. He would have dropped Ash the second he saw a pretty girl. Case in point when Misty had to yell at Brock 3 times during Ash's battle with Jeanette in the league because Brock kept falling for Jeanette. On top the keeping Ash and Brock in line, she also had to stake her own claim to prove herself to her sisters. That's why she got along so well with Sakura because both were getting ragged on by their older sisters. Even Ash in the scene at 2:36 makes a reference to this by saying to Misty that banter between Sakura and her sisters sounds familiar. Also while I mention Sakura, she's given the opportunity to go with the gang in a follow up episode but she chooses not to on grounds she wants to learn to do things independently, and not rely on the trio. Also Sakura makes another appearance in the Pokemon Chronicles episode The Blue Badge of Courage where we see how far she's come as a trainer. But anyways back to Misty. Also Pokemon Chronicles explains Misty's past with Gyarados. In Cerulean Blues the gym's Gyarados has gone out of control due to Outrage and recently evolving. Misty confides in Nurse Joy that as a baby she crawled into a sleeping Gyarados's mouth and as result has had a traumatic fear of them. However after a battle with the three brothers from Gotta Catch Ya Later goes sideways when they attack Gyarados, whose caged on the pool bottom until it calmed down (All other attempts had failed, it was caged to avoid damage to the gym and injury to the other pokemon.), Misty dived in and blocked the attacks until she was knocked unconscious. Gyarados then smashed the cage, saved Misty, and sent the brothers blasting off Team Rocket style. As seen in her reappearance in the Advance arc, she was now the trainer of Gyarados and had been working hard with it. One other big thing about this episode is earlier during one of the failed attempts Misty is knocked unconscious and has a dream of asking help from Ash and Brock but they tell her she can do it on her own and that they have faith in her. This shows how much she learned from Ash and Brock on her journey with them and while she may not have gotten to use it much during that time, she can now and improve herself and the gym. Also Pokeshipping is my personal favorite while Amourshipping is my least favorite (As well as Serena being my least favorite companion, but that's another giant write up.) The biggest driving force for Pokeshipping is the fact it's the most mutual. Something you don't see with the other female companions is Ash showing jealous emotions when someone would flirt with them, but he got mad when some would flirt with Misty. (Danny and Rudy are prime examples.). Likewise Misty got jealous of girls flirting with Ash sometimes to such a point she would get right in the middle of the conversation. Like when she got in Macy's face when she wanted to go on a date with Ash. Also when it came to peril situations Ash and Misty showed a lot of concern towards one another more than anyone else involved. Another situation that did not really follow with other female companions. Also another bombshell episode similar to The Heartbreak of Brock is the Pokemon Chronicles episode A Date with Delcatty, where Misty gets asked out on a date.

Alright my opinion. At first when I started watching the Indigo League last year, I thought that the characters were perfect considering how much of the fanbase say the characters are amazing. Back then, most "Ranking Anime series" videos did not exist yet, the first I can remember is the one of Entity Mays. However, after watching a few episodes, I found a lot of flaws within the series and Misty. Thats maybe because I just watching XY and getting the polar opposite of Serena (a character I adore) was not my taste. Over time I grew fonder of her but I often forgot about her by the middle of Johto because she doesn't do much during that time. Yes, she was unique and I give her points for that but the thing I dislike most about Misty has to be the amount of hidden potential she had. Later serieses have known to turn gags into development like Bonnie's gag. I think Misty being afraid of bugs could have been turned into a great arc where she befriends a Ledian or something and eventually catches it. Also, a grass type rival for her would be perfect as well as replacing her Goldeen for a Magikarp. I feel if these points were touched upon, she would have been a much better character

I think a lack of a focused goal is one of the reasons for Misty being let go from the show. According to Takeshi Shudo's blogs, the show was in a decline in ratings towards the end of Johto. They decided it would maybe help to change up the cast. When it came time to decide who would leave, it came down to Misty and Team Rocket. Misty was chosen for the following reasons: A) They felt out of the characters, Misty (or Kasumi as she is called over there) had the least justification for her existence. B) She didn't have a good role as a female protagonist. It ultimately seems to have come down to them wanting a better female protagonist and one who would feel necessary in being there. That's probably why they would give future female traveling companions, like her immediate successor May and later Dawn, a clear-cut goal that the show actually focused on. And they could also learn from an experienced traveler like Ash and Brock. Compare that to Misty, where her goal was rarely brought up, there wasn't much focus on it, and she didn't have really any solid reason to travel with Ash other than the flimsy bike thing.

Now i know You could Just debunk My theory Saying Its a nod to all The Older fans but Just hear Me out, my Theory Is , Ash Is going through kind of an emotional Phase Right now, He's wondering what He Actually Wants , Does He want to be when It Comes To Being a pokemon master, Should He become a pokemon Master who is really Strong and Be known as The world champion, Or Should He pursue A goal Of Becoming the pokemon Trainer who Helped hundreds of people throughout His Life,and It Seems Much to The Latter rn, In the new series he seems More On The chill side so it could be True, Thsi is Not really a theiry But More of a hypothesis I guess, What do You Think? I generally want to Know if people Would Be Happy If The anime Went in This direction , And maybe They could Even Show some Ash, Sad Boi Hours , Which would add More depths To his character

Personally, I never liked Misty and even rewatching the original anime, I just wished she wasn't there. This comes from the perspective of being a younger brother, whose older sister would always bully them. I honestly saw a lot of my own relationship between Ash and Misty and since that's a... less than successful sibling relationship, I just find myself at best annoyed with her but I guess that's just because of my own life experiences.
