There are many verses in the Quran that have been mistranslated, and as a result, misunderstood. Joining us are Dr. Mustafa Khattab, completed his Ph.D in Islamic Studies in English from Al-Azhar University, and is a Muslim Adjunct Chaplain at Brock University. And the editor-in-chief of The Clear Quran, Abu Isa Webb.

I think these issues really need addressing- since Muslims take religion vary solemnly- they tend to read verses and take them seriously by implementing them without understanding- for example there is a verse that says "they call to good and forbid the evil" and so I've seen lots of Muslims using this as a justification for arrogantly pointing out people's mistakes and what they should and shouldn't do- this is just a way to show off that you are better then them. These problems exist everywhere to be certain! But I really like these kinds of videos where these small issues that cause a huge impact are being addressed

Indeed as an Arab sometimes i hear people reading some verses and i say to myself this is not really accurate it doesnt mean this 100%. I believe you are doing a great Job and i hope we have an initiative that all muslims around the world get to validate one english translation and be used around the world as one validated translation.

Quran is an effectual text. So repetition has different results in different contexts. People tent to misunderstand Al Quran, because they deny both its historical context and ignore the surrounding aspects of a passage or that other verses on the subject tell more than the one place. Islam can be misunderstood when tradition, allegedly Islamic or otherwise, leads people to be blinded to the explicit meanings of the fundamental texts and their implicit connections.

This makes it easier to understand why every Muslim should follow up their research, interpretations and opinions by concluding with Inshallah ( Allah willing ) and/or Allah knows best. The last being the better of the two in these cases because we as human are limited in understanding regardless of how much knowledge we may have or lack thereof. Something that it didn't make sense to me as of recently. Regards from Los Angeles

I think that misunderstanding on the physical aspects of Isa (Jesus) has been the most widespread and discussed viz birth - whether of virgin birth or not death - whether put on the cross or not, if not whether he died naturally or did not die; if put on the cross, whether he died while on the cross, or in the tomb or did not die there or died naturally elsewhere ascension - whether Jesus really ascended to heaven bodily or not, if not where did he go (Rome, gallilee, or the East such as the Indian sub-continent) advent - whether second coming or appearance is going to occur (for those who believe in the ascension).

If a word (like العسر) is repeated twice in Arabic, it means it's talking about the same difficulty, but the word يسر doesn't have ال and it's repeated twice, it means two eases. Just like the example mentioned: - I met the man and gave the man some money (same man). - I met a man and I gave a man some money (two men).

Why a sister has to conduct an interview of men who are unrelated specifically on subject & topics related to Deen Al Islam. I’m not belittling the role of sister in Islam but to push her / them in places and events which aren’t required. A Muslim woman sitting face to face to men and talking Deen with no physical separation is unwarranted. It never happened in history and America or Europe can’t be reinventing Islam. I respect the sister, this is just my observation. May Allah guide us and keep us on straight path.

Not really. Islam means submitting your will to God/Allah. If you do what God wants you to do then you will be successful, but you can't make up your own religion and then ask God to accept that. Now for someone who didn't hear the true message of God, they'll have excuses, but generally you have to accept God on His terms. I don't think saying that one way is correct is necessarily insulting others.

Sahih International. The original verb in Arabic is "Kill" and it was translated and toned down to "Fight," I think they should have it translated to "Love," next time, because Islam is the religion of Peace, so that the message is not misunderstood and misinterpreted by those who misinterpret the final message of Allah, given to all of mankind for all times.🙏🏽

wisdom.... it's like showing a situation and passing along the wisdom. did you know that Muslims built Quran after Muhammad (swl) died. there was this war and a lot of Muslims died so in fear of loosing the many snippets of wisdom that Allah gave to us (to us Muslims and we believe it to be great so it's cool if you don't want to believe cause everybody has thier beliefs 😊😊 what we believe is our business and you don't have to follow us) so the higher ups decided to gather all the surah that our prophet (swl) wrote which was in possession by a lot of people. and they completed the Quran or in other words...they gathered the Quran in its entirety. Quran is for eternity because what it passes along isn't some set of words but rather it is passing along guidance. you can understand why we should look at the context because that helps is in understanding the essence of Islam. the Quran isn't just a holy book, atleast not for us because that's how great it is for us. now going to your questions why does it matter? it matters cause we are trying to be what the prophet Mohammed(swl) wanted us to be...real Muslims. compassionate and strong. it is said that the surah that our prophet passed to us came through an angel, God's words through an angel to our prophet (swl) and then to us. so it's important that we understand why Allah (subhana ta'Alla) said those exact words and what we should learn from those words. so context is important cause what we are following is what Allah (subhana ta'Alla) said so it's only sensible that we should know why he said it and understand it's meaning. is it revelation or history book. is the history significant? yes, yes it is but it's not some history book. the Quran talks about the future as well in which case there ain't a need for context...it's a revelation. it's revealing something distant that's yet to come. we need context when is comes to talk about our actions, mannerisms and commands. there's no need for context to believe in God or his predictions we believe in his words. I get that it's confusing cause it is pretty hard to understand, but it's import that we understand it in its entirety. thank you for taking your time reading this and I hope that I was able to clarify some of your doubts. Islam loves peace and no matter in what context it's said it's true. again, thank you for reading and have a great day.

mubin !! You said: “to be what the prophet wanted us to be. . .” Does that mean your goal is to do the will of Muhammad? Do you realize that your whole intervention centers around Muhammad, as if he is the focal point of Islam? That’s problematic to me. That part really doesn’t make sense to me: this narrative that attempts to elevate Muhammad to the status of God. Moreover, I don’t understand why Muhammad as a prophet never talked to God directly, how was he able to verify that the scriptures reveal to him were from God? It seems to me, at least, the prophethood protocol before Muhammad suggested direct conversations with God. For a message as important as the Quran, why wouldn’t God talk to Muhammad directly, like He did with Moses and all the other prophets with important messages? Lastly, shouldn’t the message be more important than the messenger? Unless the messenger is the message himself, I don’t understand that reverence towards a man who’s been dead for almost 1400 years

@@delpthepath127 I don't understand why you're saying that I'm elevating him into godhood "What our prophet wanted us to be" ....he wanted us to be better and to devote ourself to our god. Our prophet made it clear to us that there is only a single omnipotent being. All religions at it base revolves around a single guy as long as there's only one entity. You can look at Christianity for example and even religions without a god, follows that idea. If you have a problem with something like this then I'm guessing you're an atheist. It's not necessarily a bad thing and it's your life so ...yeah Our goal is to live like how our god wants us to and the person who knew what our god wanted was non other than prophet Muhammad (swl) . The way he wanted us to be is not his own will but the gods (granted that he also added in a lot of virtues on his own) I don't know why he couldn't see god, I'm not knowledgeable but if I ever find answer to that then I'd be happy to tell ya. Tbh I don't think it matters, he sent his angels to his bidding and as angels solely exist to devote themself to our god, I don't see a problem with an angel speaking the will of God. Maybe it was a trial? Our prophet is said to be the last prophet to descend to earth to guide humanity and teach them the right path. And your last question... Both are important fam. The teachings and the one who taught us. Prophet Mohammed wasn't just a messenger but also an exemplary man. It's only fair that we look up to someone like him and follow his path. If we are obsessing over a guy whose been dead for more that 1400 years then it just means that he's that special. He's our prophet who taught us the better path, I don't see a problem with loving him and trying to look upto him. Don't get me wrong tho, we love our prophet for who he is and not because we see him as a god. No Muslim with a smidge of understanding of Islam would ever say that our prophet is a god or equal to our god. I hope that clears your questions and I honestly tried to my best. Don't forget to wash your hands fam Bye.

mubin !! If you believe that what Muhammad wants for Muslims is not from his own, but from God’s will, why not simply say you want to live like God intended, instead of attributing a divine order to Muhammad, as if it of him? That’s confusing. I believe the language someone uses tells a lot about what they believe subconsciously. People might not say flat out that they worship him, because framing it that way would sound too controversial. But they express that reverence towards him in their choice of words, and the emotional attitude towards him, as if they believe he can still see and hear them. That’s not normal. At least in Christianity, a certain divinity is attributed to Jesus ( which takes care of that problem for them). Unless one is ready to attribute that same divinity to Muhammad, it doesn’t make sense to speak to a dead man. Why would rely on a single person to share this important revelation without direct witnesses or without delivering the verifying revelations to others that confirm the authenticity of the revelation received by Muhammad? In the Abrahamic religions such has been the norm. Why deviate from it? Moreover, God being a just God, omnipresent, and omniscient should know that it’s hard to verify the validity of Muhammad’s revelation without corroborating witnesses and prophecies about Muhammad, given the importance of the message. If the revelation given to Muhammad is of such great importance because it is intended to save humanity, how can the messenger eclipsed such message by being bigger than the message? You seem to be suggesting that Muhammad is “himself” the message when you claim he was sent from heaven. I don’t know if that’s what you meant to say, but it clearly points to you believing Muhammad is divine. That would be hard sell. I’m not an atheist, I do believe in God, one God. I just find the mechanics of organized religion to be quite incoherent, and mere reflection of man’s will, bearing mankind’s megalomania, insecurities, needs for supremacy, and fallible mind. Any being, with some level of honesty, knows that they cannot truly verify their faiths, or directly attest to God’s attributes and essence. It’s weird hearing people say “God say this or that” I find it a bit dysfunctional that a man without any divine attributes would ask me to love him more than I do my family, as much as I love God and for me to oblige. I don’t see how that’s not an act of worship even though, through cognitive dissonance, one proclaim “ oh no, we don’t worship him, we just love almost as much as God. Look, he is the best of all mankind, our example to follow to please God.” The narrative here is that Muhammad is better than a man, the closest being to God. What man is Perfect? None, how can anyone speak of a sinner of flesh and blood that way without contradicting the monotheistic premise upon one’s religion is based. Both the Quran and the Bible make the claim that Jesus was sinless, why isn’t Jesus the best example for Muslims? He seems to be different based on the description of him of the very Quran. The logic of Muhammad being the best of mankind doesn’t make sense at all, and that’s within the context of Islam himself. Some Christians have gone as far as making him God. These are examples of the dichotomies inherent in organized religion A side note: you know, my friend, if you ask our fellow human beings, who have elected to serve God through Catholicism, why their churches are so populated with resplendent statues of unsuspected historical characters-who frankly would be amazed to find themselves crystallized as divine beings- to whom they pray and worship. They would exclaim that you got it all wrong, that they only do so to express their love for these penitent characters.

@@delpthepath127 I am not an expert with Kuran but to explain it better; "Prophet" word is actually used in 2 forms in Kuran, one is "Rasul", one is "Nabi". When it is used as Rasul; it is the prophet the messenger who is saying Allah's words directly; when it is used as Nabi; it is the prophets themselves who've been choosen to be the messengers. When Kuran says obey the prophet; it always uses "Rasul"; which means that you are actually obeying the words of the Allah. Because of this; Kuran can also be understood as the rasul/messenger itself, as it is saying the words of Allah directly. There is no divinity being given to any of the Nabi's, and it is always being repeated that you should obey and believe the one and only divine, Allah; or you are doing the most unforgiven sin in Kuran. This is how i understand it, i also had problems understanding because i am not Arab, dont know Arabic so to understand it i have to use translations. Which in my case there are no Rasul or Nabi words in it and only one word is being used like "prophet" which leeds to some confusion. You just have to search more to understand it better.

Why are Muslims ashamed to admit the Quran is not perfect and it's very scattered and disjointed. It was written by men.

God is the most merciful and he is also swift to punish, the problem in the bible you don't read it regularly, ministers read a passage a week they don't read the text on hellfire. Which is why so many live and behave like animals. as they think there is no punishment.
