Tom and Luke Stoltman are from a tiny town of only 3000 people called Invergordon where I live. They're incredibly genuine, authentic and down to earth lads and the people here are so proud of what they've achieved. My son has autism and it's so heartwarming to see the adversity Tom has overcome to get to where he is, and how Luke always speaks so highly of him to build him up (as does Tom speak in the same way about Luke). They're well-loved in the area and don't act like divas or celebrities with an attitude, just salt of the earth lads with a wonderful and positive inspiring vibe they bring everywhere they go. Great fellas.

Being a casual follower of the sport I was a little worried how hard Andrew would lean into the "lets make them all look like dummies, repeating the clips that make them come across as simple" angle, but fortunately that wasn't too much the case! @silverladderAZ
@silverladderAZ Жыл бұрын
@@SRX33 I got the idea they were more talking about splitting wood to provide heat in the winter (not everyone has electricity everywhere), to cook on, etc. rather than deforestation. I don't see the ability to chop wood as "toxic" masculinity in any way. Then again, I may have misinterpreted that statement.
@sonicportal7375
@sonicportal7375 Жыл бұрын
@@SRX33 I think the point is more that, as divorced from the real world as we seem to be, we are still animals. We are still biological creatures with a physical need for activity, to be healthy. There is nothing healthy about spending so much time sitting at a computer that your spine literally deforms, your muscular development withers from disuse, your cardiovascular fitness is untrained, etc. All of that stuff matters, A LOT. And for as much as we discuss toxic masculinity in our culture, there is also something to be said for toxic immasculinity. It’s not necessary for most of us in our modern world to chop wood, BUT should you have the physical ability?? Yeah. You should. If you’re uncoordinated and physically unfit that you can’t, you’re surely going to face detrimental physical health consequences in your future. One of the best predictors of all-cause mortality in elderly is grip strength. Think about that. I think that’s what undergirds the sentiment from these guys. It comes out as “you should be able to chop wood and protect your family from evils”, but really it’s even more practical than that, to me anyway.

3:24 Andrew being filmed next to a sign that says "NO FILMING" and saying "We'll fucking see about that..." is the absolute most succinct display of the essence of the Channel 5 spirit I've ever seen. @strongmanupdates7533

The sign was about not filming the events. TV contracts are how World’s Strongest Man make a majority of their money, so when people film the events it hurts their profits. Sucks for the fans because we have to wait months after the fact until it airs on TV to watch it, but that’s how the athletes and the organization earn their money from the event.
