I mean, it sounds like a joke but it's genuinely true. Something about that character lends itself remarkably well to a male portrayal, and something about David lends itself remarkably well to a female role.

@@Xezlec that's spot on, the thing I always think with Mrs danvers is in so many ways a villain who has an incorrigible hatred of all things common, the literal definition of being uptight. It's crazy how David excels in those types of roles. Moreover, this horrifying glide from across the room is so in keeping with the tone of Mrs danvers, the feeling Mrs Dewinter has when danvers is in the room. Ghostly, cold, a spectre always judging and disapproving. Classic Mitchell and Webb, and the types of intellect not known to many comedy sketch shows

This is so funny, and incredibly well-acted by Robert Webb. They did well to get so many references to the original film in, in such a short time. The fact that they're talking about the wife who comes after her makes it an even creepier concept than the original! Bravo all around

'Rebecca' is my favourite film of all time. Watch the original - the Alfred Hitchcock version - not a remake or TV adaptation. The film is quite faithful to the book except when describing the details of Rebecca's death - the film differs from the book slightly. But it makes no difference. So you don't have to read the book, unless you really want to. Mrs Danvers is such a great villain.
