this is the first time anyone actually properly explained to me why less mobility is a good thing for strength athletes, thanks Mitch, I know you talked about it before but it didn't really make sense, but te stretch rebound(bounce) in the competition range absolutely makes sense. luckily as a more general athlete who also trains for physique development on the side I can actually use all the mobility and strength in all ranges since I never know in what position I have to be strong. But if you know your range it not only makes sense for specificity(which is why I used to think some full range acessories would be good) but having the rebound sure makes a big difference, not just for 1RM, but especially for reps so you don't loose as much strength and energy on each rep. only muscle I'd still train at very long lengths for some acessories are hamstrings, maybe biceps and chest, but not for mobility, but to strengthen the connevtive tissues and decrease the risk of tears, plu a fully stretched hamstring makes you weaker, so it probably isn't a big deal to have some extra mobility there and with almost straight knees the glutes and quads don't gain mobility anyway

There’s been UFC champions just from mastering those two things, like Khabib, Randy Coture, Rampage Jackson, Usman, Daniel Cormier and a few others. But if you have the time to prepare kicks are def a nice bonus and a weapon that can end a fight with one shot if you can get it up to the head and most well rounded pros have a nice kick.

Put it in context. In the flow of the conversation it came to where she said that in certain positions that he demonstrated on her she could cause him discomfort with eye gouges, groin kicks, etc. And, she could if the opportunity presented itself. She fully knows that if Mitchell went at her in full anger and full force he could possibly kill her. She is an elite martial artist, and very talented but when it comes to landing blows for real it is silly even talking about this. I am a 200lb man who is in shape and can street fight because of my youth. I wouldn’t last 3 minutes against a very angry, determined Mitch Hooper. I had to stay out of the range of his bombs, so, out of instinct I used the teep, which worked beautifully. Even within just strength specific sports like arm wrestling, your don´t just become an elite level arm wrestler. The match between Devon Larratt and Thor showed this. You’re great Mitchell but Silvana left you in the dust with her humility, natural strength and many years of discipline to hit black belt. What a cool woman, you found a great teacher there. Can’t wait to see your fight

You might want to focus more heavily on wrestling/ jiu jitsu. Might be a better use of your time than spending time learning the intricacies of kicks which can take a long time to master

The face you made after being told you had been roundhouse kicking is the exact face any self respecting human would have made. 3:15 love it

I'm genuinely surprised that stretching isn't a relatively standard thing to do for strongmen.

Wasn't aware there was a black belt hall of fame. What does she have a black belt in?

Not fighting… that’s 💯 sure.

Ah man, I'm hypermobile and I've just accepted that I need to just progressively overload my full ROM and not just tap out at 'comp legal.' It's all good until I slip past that trained range and suddenly have half the power in twice the range. I'll take my 275 ass to grass squat over my 315 'comp legal' squat every day of the week.

For general athleticism it's always better to use and maximise your full ROM. A strong deep squat will always be beneficial to you in other sports and your life. But yea, if you're a professional strongman or powerlifter (lol), you might want to be very specialised.

Never ask a martial artist about selfdefence. They allways overestimate their capabilities. It is allways about mass and technique elevates mass. Hitting a knock out point is near zero in a real fight. Also in a real fight it is more important to protect yourself then be sorry. Kicking is a big risk in balance and defence. In UFC most of the time they kick low or front, because it is fast and less risky.

There might be hope for gaining some half decent low kicks, but i don't think you should push your luck trying to go higher than the lower end of the quads. Getting some effective kicks in can be difficult even when your a decent kicker! That atlas stone she was working with looked like it was awkwardly small to use proper atlas stone technique on, she kept trying to cup it.
