Having a laugh at Eddie's "under the proper conditions" comment. I mean, it was at a comp, but no one seems to care that he was sponsored to attempt that specific lift there and then, while being given 27 minutes between his last build up set and the 500kg attempt. Hardly 'in comp' setting when it's a planned lift with all the time he wanted before the attempt when contrasted to Thor's "home gym" lift that followed every parameter any in comp lift would. The whole 500/501 debate is so lame. Forget the drama, both lifts were feats of strength that are rarely equaled in any sense. I just appreciate what both guys did to prep for and endure to pull those numbers. And seeing Thor and Mitch push that boundary again will be special.
@alexanderbertisch10062 ай бұрын
absolutely shitty debate for sure. Its hard to tell if there are any actually legit 1000+ lbs deadlifts, most either have figure 8 straps or a suit or way uncalibrated plates. the deadlift itself is already a weird lift since sumo exists and really manipulates the numbers. but saying a lift doesnt count because it wasnt done in a super super specific competition is just bad sport.

@@alexanderbertisch1006 So I agree for the most part. I wasnt aware of Eddie having additional time and stuff in between his lift. Both are definitely massive feats of strength. That said, its important to remember that training for something that difficult is a lot of time and effort. I do think there needs to be some official capacity in which it happens. A lot of strongmen came out saying that Thor's lift should have been done in competition and I do agree with that (fair competition, not a big delay in between lifts like mentioned with Eddie). Otherwise, anyone could film themselves "lifting" 500kg with no standards or verification. Otherwise I do agree though, and I do hold that stance with any lift. Should be in competition

@@lukebbuff Eddie and Thor both pushed to 200kg+ bodyweight because conventional wisdom at the time was that heavier = better. Now we're unlearning bad science. Time and time again we're learning there are limits to the benefit of weight. If you have too much weight for your frame, it hinders. Eddie is likely an outlier due to the Hercules gene. Thor will outlift his heavier self through better technique, and eating. He can do it now, a lot leaner than his 501. Hence, you don't have to jeopardize your health as much, just be better. Eddie's dissing of Thor will never end. He's literally incapable of admitting that Thor has outdid him in literally everything. Whether Thor's record happened in an official event or in his home gym or on the side of the freakin' road somewhere is irrelevant. All that matters is that all official protocols were met to ensure the record would count legitimately.

It's about having a mutually agreed upon standard by the community and governing bodies, otherwise dangerous precedents are set. So, in all likelihood he did lift 501, but that is not the point in terms of officially recognising it as a record.

@Jykupajr2 ай бұрын
@@CloudianMH That’s the second time I’ve seen you post about bot accounts mentioning Thor, it’s pretty funny that you don’t seem to think real people like the guy. His 501 was scheduled for competition but, you know, that global pandemic shut down competitions for months, that’s why it was in his gym. - Organized by WUS - Broadcast live by ESPN - Sanctioned by Guinness - Strict rest times between each lift - 420/465/501kg, exact same jumps as Eddie - Plates, bar, collars all weighed on a calibrated scale on screen - Judged by MVM - Pulled by the same athlete who holds several of the other impressive (in-competition and gym) deadlift WRs, like 1000 for reps and elephant bar - Also the same athlete who has said numerous times that he feeds off crowd energy which was largely missing in his pull All that aside, people seem to have no problem recognizing Rauno’s 6x400kg deadlift WR, or Tom Stoltman’s 286kg atlas stone WR, so why is there such a big huff and puff? Also, Thor has beaten Mitch in every deadlift event they’ve gone head-to-head in (even with only two attempts for max events), why would regular people NOT be talking about him in the comments? But my username indicates I’m probably just a bot anyway, so none of that matters
