Oh my god.. what a breath of fresh air.. 80% of the reviewers out there are more like yeah I spent $1,000 on a NIkon/Canon/Sony lens and I'm super professional, the Yongnuo takes sharp pictures but you if you want better AF you need to spend monday but NO RAWS AND PICTURES TO COMPARE!!! (would hit subscribe but I already on another video // also already bought this lens just based on the DXO rating but love seeing you actually using it!)

Mitch! Can you do a video about lights and overall studio photography? I want to know which lights to buy. The ones i have flicker when seeing trough the camera :( which makes videos unusable and photos inconsistent

Very cool!! Looking forward to more third party RF lenses. I have been picking up more event gigs and thought about putting a smaller 85 on my R6 and using the RF 35 1.8 for my R as a dual camera photo setup. This sounds like a useful alternative to the RF 85 2.0

Yep - no IS and no macro but smaller and in my opinion slightly better optically.

Also I wish you could do a VS video with this lens vs the 85mm f1.4 Samyang if you can get your hands on that lens for a video review. So, here's a question that's probably silly but I'm curious - since you shoot quite a bit in the vertical orientation, why not use a battery grip (apart from the added weight of course)? Doesn't it get uncomfortable after a while to shoot with your arm away from your body?

@@StymyParsley the same way they pressured Samyang and forced them to abandon their two RF lenses. Also, why do you think you haven’t seen any RF lenses from Sigma and Tamron yet? Canon refuses to open the R mount to 3rd party companies, forcing us into buying absurdly priced RF glass. A big reason I picked up an a7III. Tons of great lens options on Sony’s E mount. If Canon doesn’t open up the mount, and soon,, I’ll sell my R6 and go full in on Sony.

Thanks but I was disappointed to see no portraits. I’m not sure about this lens. Christopher Frost showed how blurry and downright terrible this lens is when stopped down. Plus, after Canon forcing Samyang out and making them abandon their two RF lenses, I’m not sure I can trust 3rd party companies due to Canons ridiculous greed. Pretty disgusted with Canon and the R mount right now. Already bought an a7III and might go full Sony soon.

@@MitchLally true, but look at the charts stopped down past f/4. That’s pretty terrible ha. Even f/4 looks pretty bad. But I guess that’s better than it looking bad at wider apertures. Just have to shoot it wide open or wider than f/4
