I'm finally making progress on my miter saw station. I've been wanting to make a new miter saw station for this shop ever since moving into it. It will be a lot more than just a miter saw station though. It will have 20 or so drawers, my miter saw, CNC, air compressor, trash can, and my planer.

I bet that felt great when you started to use your new level surfaces to build the rest of the cabinets, using the mitre station to build the mitre station! Very satisfying! I love the way you stack everything so neatly whilst you are building, I'm afraid this neatness is something we don't share, as my wife will testify! Great build and video, thanks for posting and sharing Jay.

Jay has been a great inspiration as I come into my own and build my own workshop. I worked for several years as a finish guy under someone and had no reason to have a shop of my own. With the purchase of my first real home, this has changed. I've built tables, end tables, lamps and my entire workshop to keep doing projects around here. This workstation is paramount to my continued success and the evolution of my real finish skills. Thanks for an amazing page, fantastic videos and constant inspiration; for the love of wood keep it up!!!

Having worked for a cabinet maker off/on for awhile now, this video was a pleasure to watch. Can't wait to see the rest of the build and as always, love watching your videos, Jay! Keep 'em coming! Glad there are guys out there that enjoy woodworking as much as I do. Keep the craft alive!

This is definitely in my future....Got to get my garage insulated and boarded up first, then comes the fun stuff...Just getting into woodworking again after 15 years and I can't wait. I need to get a couple more basic tools to get my workshop in working order, but this is an awesome addition to any workshop!

I love your miter station. I would not call myself a woodworker, but I am a 58 year old woman who builds lots of shelves, and does lots of home improvements. And I do have my own power tools and workshop. I have built my own workbench, just threw something together with scraps and I built lots shelves above the workbench that I can barely reach. I like yours because being only 5 ft 1 inch, I could easily reach everything the way you built it. Plus I like how the counter tops support long boards while cutting them with the miter saw. Excellent idea. Though I am not very good at making drawers, I could instead make it to fit my plastic bins and even add more bins. I use a lot of them in my workshop, I store things like my jigsaw and circular saw in plastic bins along with the manual and the little tools that go with them so everything is together, I also store things like scrapers and other things in bins, keeps the dust off. And I could even add higher shelves for seldom used things.

Looking good, and it appears that you're making good use of space. I have a love/hate relationship with my SCMS because it takes up so much space and creates so much dust. At the same time, I still find it very useful and use it almost every time I'm in the workshop. It looks like your plan addresses both the dust and the space issue.
@JayBates
@JayBates 9 жыл бұрын
Barry's Workshop Thanks. There is waaaaay too much wasted space with a typical SCMS so I chose to use as much of it as I could with drawer storage.

The "checking for level" sequence reminded me of something out of a video game. Lego Star Wars I think. :) Anyway, great stuff as usual, Jay. I've ripped off so many of your ideas for my shop/projects that it's almost shameful. What is the most impressive thing about watching your channel is seeing you progress as a woodworker/maker. That element, coupled with insane talent, great video editing, clear and instructive verbiage, and more are what make your channel one of my favorites.

This pleases the Luis. I have the same miter saw you have and what I have currently as a miter saw table isn't cutting it. Mine is like April Wilkerson's and my saw being 70 lbs still is a pain moving it around my shop. So making a dedicated spot for it would be better for me.

Great alternative to the Wotkshop hutch Norm Abram built. Mutch easier to get the cabinet compartments the exact same size when making the cabinets individually, which is a big deal when it's time to make drawers, and install drawer slides. Also the individual cabinets makes it much easier to accommodate for uneven floors.
