0:44 The archduke in fact wanted to check on and visit the survivors of the first attack, but his driver took a wrong turn to the hospital and fatefully brought the archduke and his wife right to their Serbian assassin. The archduke's wife was also killed, leaving their children orphans.

there was more than one assassin, if my high school history teacher was correct when he told us: "The Archduke punched the grenade away mid-air, and the failed assassin would attempt suicide by popping cyanide and then jumping into a river, but the cyanide failed and the river was so shallow that he simply broke both his ankles/legs. His partner had given up on the mission, until he looked out of the cafe he was in, and saw that the Archduke and his vehicle were stopped just outside..."

There were also guys like the German lieutenant who walked over to the Allied side at 11h01 to ask if it was over, but got gunned down by a company who hadn't been informed of the Armistice. A lot of guys in hospital would carry on succumbing to wounds, and some of the other theatres like the Middle East carried on fighting for another 2 weeks.

Yeah, basically he got demoted and he wanted to prove to his officers that they made a mistake. So he bravely charged a machine gun nest single-handedly. The Germans manning the nest knew that there was a minute left in the war and tried to shoo him away, but when he refused to do so and he started taking pot shots at them they where forced to gun him down.

@@Evilcarrot507 If you're talking about the Netflix version, there was no such last attack by the Germans just before the Armistice. The Entente however continued to be pretty aggressive and did such actions as they wanted to be in a good position if war resumed (it was an Armistice, it could have been only a pause). I think in the Netflix movie they couldn't depict the Entente doing such silly last ditch attacks, as it would look like pro-German propaganda to depict such behaviour by their enemies.

One thing to point out: The Archduke, Franz Ferdinand, was ironically the most supportive Austro-Hungarian for Serbia during this time, and he got shot while going to visit the victims of the first bombing at the hospital. His personal driver from Austria took the wrong turn and stalled in front of Gavrilo Princip, the killer. The death would result in many in the Empire who advocated for peace being told “he was their best ally and look what they did! They’ll do worse to us!” More tragically, his reported last words were towards his wife, who he loved very much, calling her name as he bled out in the car…

Great video, but I think it is worth mentioning that if the spring offensive failed is because French noticed German soldiers carrying Champagne bottles on a particular calm part of the frontline, realizing that highly important folks must be around the French launched a commando operation to the enemy trenches and found no one there except the documents stating of the incoming spring offensive. Knowing that, allied forces retreated to more secured positions and let the Germans take as much territory as they wanted to stretch their supply lines and then push them back altogether

How so? Hermaphrodite tanks were a thing and were actually the most common variant with a cheaper and smaller cannon than the male variant. Little Willy also existed which precisely had no armaments at all, so... it's actually factually incorrect.

And inaccurate as well, as there were unarmed Mark IV tanks built to carry supplies for their male and female siblings.
