Recently bought one of these. I was wanting a manual till I saw the difference in 0 - 60 times. Also, nobody complains when an r35 is a dual clutch why is this any different.

It boils down to people being misinformed about what a dual clutch is. It's cool because that leaves these beauties for real enthusiasts.

Same goes for bmw and Mercedes fanboys. None of them seem to care about manual transmissions in the ultimate driving machines, but when they see an AT in this, a q60, a GTR, an STI..... It's just this gigantic ego problem. Lol

Best ever honest review of the evo x out there . Had my sst last 8 years and every Sunday I get that same feeling . Drop it down 2 gears and bam quickly go up 2 or 3 gears from paddles. Car grips like shit on blanket and next minute can just cruise in town . Keep it fully maintained and you will not regret owning an evo x . 1 minor thing I average 9 mpg but I'm always in s sport lol .

I wouldn't have a problem with the SST gearbox, manual versions of the Evo X only had 5 gears which made them drink even more heavily. They are also able to take power upgrades, the most powerful official Evo X, the FQ 440 has the SST box.

i agree with the flappy paddle gearbox , it is the future you very rarely see a manual in a ferrari or aston martin or any other super car. This technology is slowly filtering into these type of cars now we will have to get use to it.

Thumbs up, all props and +1000 internetz for being cool and honest about this, automatic gear may be considered "lazy" and "taking away" control, but I don't give a shit about that - sheer comfort and enjoyment are a good tradeoff, especially if you can sort of still change gears yourself. X being a last Evo instantly makes this a classic and youngtimer candidate, I AM gong to get one myself SOMEDAY. If I don't, I'll die a failure

Awesome review. I have a 2010 mr evo x with 353 hp and 375 tq at the wheels with a built, upgraded, and updated sst tranny. Currently running 24.5 pounds of boost. I bet you would have even more fun driving mine. This tranny is an auto manual. It literally drives just like a manual but without a heavy clutch in manual mode. You can't row gears as fast as a twin clutch can shift. And it's never missed a shift either. And you can brake boost off of the line and you can get better rolling brake boost runs in as the rpm goes up and loads the suspension. Unlike a true manual where the rpm is equal to your actual speed. I guess some people out there still think they can shift a manual faster than a porsche pdk auto too. Who needs flappy paddles? On the sst you can also upshift and downshift in manual mode by bumping the shifter either up or down.

If it's dual clutch, it's closer to a manual than an automatic. For a daily car, there's no better system - it's easier to drive every day and is at least faster when you're on it, if not a little less involving.

Mike Hughes No it’s not lol. A dual clutch automatic is still an automatic. There is no clutch pedal nor does the car require you to shift. It’s an AUTOMATIC. The difference between a dual clutch auto vs a traditional automatic is one uses clutches and one has a torque converter. Dual clutch, single clutch, cvt, and torque converters are all automatics and have none of the characteristics of a standard transmission.
@Aluzcz
@Aluzcz 5 жыл бұрын
@@IamCooper-rk5bn It's not auto you moron its a manual with two clutches operated by robot. I have the same in my VW, where its called DSG, if it's good for all performance Audis, Lamborghini or Bugatti its good enough for me. Comfy and fast. That's what you want. I have also manual Miata, don't drive it anymore as i live in the city and getting out in it it's hell, one part of the hell is the manual shifting, in traffic that's a no go.

Lee H 400tq is about the limit when stock clutches slip on the MR. There are a few people running 500-600whp/400tq on stock trans/motor SST without issues yet. Wouldn't recommend it to most unless you're going to be prepared for when the clutches fail.

LEE Harrison incorrect ! they can take over 400bhp easy,and around 400 lbft .Any more and you just uprate the clutches just like you would have to in any other evo when getting to the same sort of bhp. My UK evo x is proof of this,see my video of mine on the dyno.

the problem with these auto boxes, like many auto boxes in this segment is the cooling and breakdown of the fluid. even with say 2 external auto transmission cooling rads fitted this will still limit the horsepower to the high 400s mark. the torque will destroy the box. unless he has his auto built (not worth the money unless ur racing for money lol) then there's no point
