We love our little 2012 MiEV. It still gets 90 km range, and it's perfect for driving around town. We use it pretty much every day and plug it in overnight. I haven't noticed any increase in my electric bill.

Thanks for uploading. I wish that Mitsubishi had not discontinued the i-miev. There still isn't a new version out as I too would recommend it as a daily runabout. I love mine. As soon as I started driving this I realised that I would never go back to a gas car. The smooth silent push when you accelerate during cruise is wonderful. No drama, just a bit more speed when you want it. So quiet and smooth at all times. I am in Japan and the shifter has D mode for normal driving, E mode for lower power acceleration and less regenerative braking, while at the end of the gate is B with the same acceleration as D mode but with higher regenerative braking. I also noticed recently it has self-leveling headlights and the electric windows remain operative for a time after the 'ignition' is switched off - for those times when you park up and forget to close the windows. I know these things are probably no big deal to some people who read this but hey, this is a great little car and it deserves some love, ha ha!

You are kidding? This is the most expensive small car !!! The battery costs 10.000 euros and the charger that gets bad after 10 or 15 years costs 4500. I have bought this car for the economy but after paying 4300 euro for a charger I was shocked. Especially because they don t sell separately the part that was defective so you must buy all the charger!

All cars cost when something important brakes down... the Imiev is still cheap if you see the % off failures ift the years used, my battery is still perfect after 6 years / 65.000 km, dont think this will crash suddenly, and after 10-15 years i dont think this little car is till good, if I can keep mine for 10 years then my car cost is just 1.600€ in car value what is verry cheap. i’m shure I will still get 2.000€ in 2025 for my car an then the cost is even cheaper. Of course its bad that things brake down, but a car is always gamling.

Greetings from La Palma, Canarias! For me, my iMiEV is the ideal car. The island is small, so the restricted range is almost always ok. I charge my car nearly exclusively from my own photovoltaic (we have plenty of sun energy even in winter). Rust is a problem only on the roof when the sun has corroded the paint - but not with the chassis. Another point is remarkable: here in the mountains (up to 2.426 meters) conventional cars have a high brake wear. Due to the recuperation, this hardly occurs at all in my case. I always drive in gear stage B.

I have had one for eight years. Battery packed in at 16,000 miles . Fortunately under guarantee. (A new battery = £7000/$10,000!) The underside is prone to rust so needs watching. Apart from that, a great car to drive. Very practical, especially as a second car for city driving. Poor range at any speed over 50mph.

I agree with your thoughts on the iMiev. On balance, a great vehicle. I have a 2012 model with the improved cells in regional Australia. Excellent vehicle for the work commute and even side work like food delivery. I am sure the cost reductions for batteries and growing business expertise will lead to a battery and AC kW charging upgrade path independent of the manufacturer. With around 30kWh usable I would be comfortable driving the car on a road trip.

It's a great little city car. As you said. very practical. Tons of space for hauling stuff in the back, plenty of room inside and yet very compact o the outside, great visibility, .... a really, really, well done small city car. BUT the replacement battery is expensive as hell. 18,000 eur for Peugeot iOn or something like that. And you will need to replace the battery, sooner or later.

It was always an undervalued vehicle. Back in the early days, the iMiEV and sisters were commendable. I was expecting for a battery upgrade over the years. But none. And therefore, such a relatively practical, compactand definitely amiable car was left stunted. If it had 35kWh today like the VW e-UP, it would be among my top choices

Hmm I've been thinking about getting an EV for some time now, these past few years a lot of charging stations around everywhere, even the small grocery store next to my house has a fast charging station. Currently I drive a toyota yaris that uses ~7L/100km and with current gas prices that's 18 euros, not to mention other maintenance costs. Anyways, this car is the cheapest EV on the used market at the moment, in my country anyways, for around 8K and the next one would be a volkswagen e-up at arounf 17K, but that's way too expensive for me. There is the nissan leaf at around 10-13K, but that is a much bigger car and its range is worse than the imiev. 90% of my driving is commuting to work and back, 20km to work and 20km back, so this could work for me. Then again these are 10 year old EVs with old batteries, so I wonder how long are they good for before needing to be replaced, and I'm guessing that won't be cheap. But then again the ones I'm looking at still retain a good amount of charge even for models like 2011 and 2012, so I guess the battery does last a while? Another thing I wonder, is how well would it fare in cold weather? I live in finland and in the winter it can get as cold as -20C (or lower).

Battery modules are a bit tricky to swap as they indeed are coded (not VIN-coded but coded to the battery - by the time the battery is made no one knows in which car it will be used). Thereafter, you must move the EEPROM from the original battery module to the "new" one you want to use.
