Thanks for this. FYI - At about 140k I was having fuel starvation when I got to a quarter of diesel left in the tank. The engine would stop running and I would need to pull over and pump the fuel to bleed the line. I would then drive to the nearest servo to fill up. Only happened when I got down to a quarter of the tank. Mitsubishi service centre had no idea what the problem was (just plug in the electronic computer which did not show a fuel problem). Went to a local mechanic who removed the same fuel filter. He did not realise the mesh was white until he had cleaned it (unfortunately no spares). Now have 194k on the clock and will be ordering and installing a new filter myself. Thanks again for a great video.

I've always wondered what is under that hatch! Now I know - thanks for that. Unfortunately I have constructed a false floor over this part of the back of the Paj so doubly difficult to access now. Strange but I have never seen this on the Pajero Service Maintenance Schedule? Mines done 105k so will probably have to think about replacing it one day.

It shouldn’t give you trouble unless you have an algae growth in the tank. I was curious that day.

Hi mate, I have mitsubishi challenger 2011 4d56, 192000 kms. It keeps stalling while driving, three lights comes on dash when it stalls. Fuel filter light, oil pressure light and battery light. Mechanic said that its something electrical, he have changed power distribution box, glow plug control relay and fuel filter. I have spent $750 on it. Today I drove it for 50 kms and it stalled again. Fuel tank was 1/4 full, then I try to start it again and it started then i drove it to fuel station and filled up the tank full. It didn't stalled now. Do you reckon it can be my clogged pre fuel filter? Any advice will be appreciated 🙏.
@TravelingBanker
@TravelingBanker Жыл бұрын
Gday mate. If it’s stalling when below 1/4 full it could be something do with the tank, worth a quick look. Dad’s hilux was doing something similar on a trip.. turned out to be water in the tank (when the fuel level dropped low enough, the pickup starting pulling a bit of water through, because it floats on top of the diesel). Have you checked the main fuel filter?

@@TravelingBanker thanks for the reply mate, yes i have changed the main fuel filter, yesterday I drove it for like 150 kms with loose fuel cap and it was driving fine. I am thinking problem is the fuel cap because when I open the fuel cap there is alot of vaccume in the fuel tank. I have replaced it with new fuel cap. I will find out today if it fixes the problem.

Very interesting video. I have a problem with mine pajero. When I want to start it I turn the key and it takes 3 seconds before motor starts running. Some people told me that there is air in fuel system. Can maybe changing this filter solve my problem when its dirty? If you know somethin please write. Sorry for my bad English. I am Vojisav from Serbia.
@TravelingBanker
@TravelingBanker 4 жыл бұрын
Pozdrav Vojislav ! .. it could be a few causes but the tank filter is the last one to check. Easy things to check are: clean main fuel filter; drain any water from the main filter; does the priming pump on the main filter work; are the clamps on the fuel hoses tight. If the car is slow to start but runs ok with good power and fuel economy then it could be glow plugs. If the car is slow to start and you have performance issues then could be fuel supply issue (leaks / pump/ injectors). Hope this helps, you could search pajeroclub.com.au

Do you know anyone that has put an Aisin auto into a Gen 3 as I have heard the Jatco autos are weak if you are going to chip your diesel from standard ?
@TravelingBanker
@TravelingBanker 2 жыл бұрын
You mean the a5awf (aisin a750f)? Into where the jatco was? I did that last year. Yes, engine has been dyno tuned (at ECU, not a chip)
@johnnystoka6625
@johnnystoka6625 2 жыл бұрын
@@TravelingBanker So is it only on the Jatco that the planetary pins have to be welded to make them reliable or is it better putting in a Aisin auto ? And if so what do you need to do the conversion ? Will the Aisin auto ECU communicate with the Gen 3 engine ECU and shift without issues ?
@TravelingBanker
@TravelingBanker 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnnystoka6625 some transmission specialists do not recommend welding the planetary pins in the Jatco. Mine did 250,000km and it was the torque converter that failed, not the planetary.. so you should expect long life from a replacement/rebuilt Jatco. There’s a lot to consider with a transmission swap and I wouldn’t know where to start with a Gen3. I will put up a video soon on what I did on my Gen4.. needed the Aisin transmission + the transfer case + the ECUs for both and matching up wires + new wires + matching flex plate (flywheel) + front & rear propellor shafts. If your Gen3 is a petrol the transmission ECU is built-in to the engine ECU, which makes a transmission swap difficult. For the Gen3 diesel, it may be possible but as I said, there is a lot mechanically to line up + electrically. If the Aisin ECU doesn’t get the inputs it needs (eg CANBUS - it does torque control of the engine ECU as part of its operation), then you might be able to use an aftermarket transmission ECU (fundamentally, you are only controlling 7 solenoids in the gearbox.. it is the interaction with other ECUs in the vehicle that causes issues). Hope this helps

@@TravelingBanker Thanks that would be great . So maybe peen the pins I have heard people do that also also . The Jayco auto is fine only done 70,000
@TravelingBanker
@TravelingBanker 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnnystoka6625 should have many safe kms ahead. You might get more value from a valve body upgrade. These should come with updated fixes to the valve body for the torque converter control and better oil flow to the planetary gearset.
